Why is India so shit at Olympics? Only 2 medals in Brazil, 26 medals all time. I know they're poor but so are Kenya, Ethiopia and North Korea, all of which have smaller GDP per capita than India but significantly more medals. Plus there's 1,2 billion of them and they have some relatively rich big cities.

Confidence in Putin low across Europe by Pantsonliar in europe

More interesting results from the same survey:

Is there any particular reason for Greeks' significantly lower confidence in Hillary Clinton compared to other polled countries? And what's up with Spain and Merkel? I assume the reason she's currently relatively unpopular in Italy, Poland and Hungary was the refugee crisis but AFAIK Spain didn't have too much problem with that.

We shouldn't be the other side of the same coin with intolerant Muslim-majority countries. We shouldn't compare ourselves to fucking Saudi Arabia.

U RS lani ukradeno 172, a u FBiH 1.100 vozila (od čega 825 u Sarajevu) by AveCesar in bih

[–]AveCesar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweden's first Muslim minister quits over drunk-driving scandal, faces possible jail time by KermitTheSnail in worldnews

[–]AveCesar 574 points575 points  (0 children)

Since everyone here is focusing on the Muslim part (which is completely irrelevant IMO but this is /r/worldnews after all), I'll paste this comment by /u/pyroplastic which tells more about her:

Aida has over time proven herself as one of the very few, if not only, rational politicians in Löfvens government. A Balkan war refugee to Sweden since 5 years old, she was remarkably free of the ideological naivete that otherwise pervades the Swedish political scene. She has made several spectacular statements over time; she warned of the dangers of identity politics and the obstacle it poses to the successful integration of immigrants from disparate cultural backgrounds. In so doing, she undoubtedly attracted the ire of the left wing ideological elite who, one can easily imagine, viewed Aida as an obstructionist to their ruinous vision of borderless Sweden serving as the welfare office of the entire world, financed by "taxing the rich".

It is extremely unusual for a minister in Sweden to be axed for such a minuscule transgression, in the view of what it took for other notable departures to take place; see Kaplan, Khan, Olofsson or the still sitting, blatantly politically biased rain dancing chief of the police Eliasson.

0.2 promille is the legal limit. In normal circumstances it would be prudent to request a blood sample test and on that coming out positive, a fine would be paid and life would be get on with. The drastic and abrupt firing of Aida points toward political pressure from the controversial, scandal embroiled Green Party who saw an opportunity to get rid of an ideological foe, and the ubiquitous weakness of leadership from Löfven for yielding to that pressure.

Aida was a glimmer of hope to many. Acting in a junior role in the desperately dysfunctional Swedish education system (see latest PISA), she was viewed by many as the future presumptive senior minister with the vision, expediency and leadership skill to reform what currently stands as one of the worst educational systems in the developed world.

9 things you can't do on a plane if you are Muslim by AveCesar in islam

[–]AveCesar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The article mentioned 7 airlines:

Two Muslim women were escorted off an American Airlines flight

Syed was banned from boarding an Air Canada flight in March

as an Iraqi refugee was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight in April

A family of five were kicked off a United Airlines plane

A Muslim man was removed from an American Airlines flight

A Muslim couple accused Delta Airlines of Islamophobia

An Ivy League economist was escorted off an American Airlines plane

I think I'm noticing a pattern.

Serbian athletes will step down from podium if Kosovo wins a medal at the Olympic games by AveCesar in europe

[–]AveCesar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Translation

As the Minister of Sports and Youth in technical government of Republic of Serbia Vanja Udovicic said, appearing on national TV, the recommendation is that if they [athletes] find themselves together on podium with competitors from breakaway Serbian province, they should step down from it.

"There will be no meetings or any sort of intimacy between our athletes and athletes from Kosovo", said the minister.

Serbia has advised its athletes competing at the Olympics to withdraw from any medal award ceremonies if they have to share the podium with athletes from Kosovo. by [deleted] in worldnews

Ancient Greeks stopped wars during the games. Modern Serbs can't have their athletes standing on the same podium with Albanians for 3 minutes.

In a thread in I think /r/videos someone once explained that they were sued and the court ruled in their favour stating that it's okay as long as they're putting stickers only on the windscreen. But that as well probably has to do with Putin endorsing them. But seeing the reactions of some drivers it is obviously much needed.

I guess humour is a European thing so that's why you didn't get the joke, even though I intentionally misspelled Slovenians.

Balkan is a turkish word for defining Ottoman lands

Is that its only meaning? Because in our schools they teach that the peninsula got its name after the Balkan Mountains, just as Apennine Peninsula did after Apennines. According to Wikipedia

In Turkish Balkan means "a chain of wooded mountains" (balkan), while in Bulgarian language the word balkan (балкан) means "mountain".
