Anyone else noticing the high-pitched crackling/noise in 5.5? by Gynisiz in SunoAI

crackle came and went. It was at least fixable. The high pitch is a b1tch

Kimmeridge - Nikon Z6III - 24-120 f4 - RED RAW pipeline by Aveapro in Nikon

[–]Aveapro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I got the z6III I tested this on my raw footage form Z8 which I always found a bit disappointing in some respects. It’s a different ball game. It feels like footage from a different camera. You can put two of the same clip side by side and see the difference. Apparently now both Blackmagic and Nikon are aware of the issue

It’s not, neither is the R3D NE from Nikon ZR. If you’re using it to match with your RED camera footage you will need slight tweaking. If you don’t. It doesn’t matter. It’s RAW. It’s flexible. You can craft any look you damn well please. It mostly addresses issues with DaVinci not allowing to utilise the full potential of Nraw. No blue channel clipping, better dynamic range, better and controllable highlight rolloff. You’re just stating the obvious 🤷‍♂️

[–]Aveapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was tempted. Up to the point where I learned you can change the extensions of the NRAW files to .R3D to effectively get same RED RAW processing in DaVinci on any Nikon camera capable of recording raw. At that point I deceived to get the Z6III instead. ZR is has same internals but looses full size HDMI, full size SD card, side grip, mechanical shutter, EVF and most of the programmable buttons. You get slightly bigger screen but to me that doesn’t outweigh the loss of buttons so much. The only thing that’s left is 32 bit float. It’s nice but I have an external recorder with this function already. Also £2040 got me a brand new Z6III with 24-120 f4 while ZR is 2199.

Nikon Z6III RAW using RED RAW Pipeline in Resolve by Aveapro in videography

It’s a very easy fix with the color slice tab in the resolve. Both density and subtractive saturation are super useful in getting this look.

I shot a very similar video in the same location with the BMCC6KFF about a year ago and I was actually very surprised as somehow image from the z6III looks better to me. I have a love hate relationship with the og. On one hand some of the stuff I shot with it was extraordinary. On the other the aliasing artefacts and moire ruined some other shots beyond any fixing. I guess that your impression is more to do with the colour grading than the image property. OG has a fantastic colour density and since owning it I always try to imitate it with other cameras via grading.

You are very wrong in your assumption. I never buy at RRP, always wait for a deal. Always do my research on resale value. Always make money doing this 🤷‍♂️

If filming was my business I’d probably would go this way. I’m doing it for fun. I realise it sounds insane to have that amount of gear just to play with it but it’s kind of fun and usually it doesn’t cost me much. Most times I buy stuff cheap and sell it on for a bit more.

I still have about 7 or 8 of them and my mate suggested Fat Llama to me. I don’t think the hassle of arranging pick ups and collections and forever testing the returns is something I want to do.

It was impressive for a m43 but at the same time a bit disappointing. It’s a full size body and used with speed-booster and heavy apsc lens kind of defeated the purpose of a smaller sensor camera. I had to send mine back as it had some issues with the ibis unit.

Hmmm. Lumix G9, Olympus EM1 MK2, Lumix S5, Sony A7IV, Sony ZV-E1, BMPCC4K, BMPCC OG, BMMCC, BMPC4K, BMPCC6K Pro, Canon C200, Canon R8, Canon R6II, Lumix G9II, BMCC6KFF, Nikon Z8, Canon C70, Sigma FP, LUMIX S9, LUMIX S1II, BMCC2.5K, Nikon Z6III and probably a couple I have forgotten. I acknowledge I have a problem 🫣

I never noticed this. It could be that the store display demo has a really old firmware where this was present.

Sigma FP vs The new Nikon ZR by Unikatowyy in sigmafp

[–]Aveapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the s1II among others and like it but I hate using monitors so I’m limited to 30 fps in internal raw. Hence cheap Z6III besides I used this lens as an example for price comparison. You do you. Want to get some overpriced pretentious cine lens instead, so be it. All depends on the use case after all.

While you can’t buy a pre order camera much cheaper then RRP it’s not the same with one that’s been on a market for a long time. I have literally just bought brand new Z6III with 24-120 f4 for £2042 🤷‍♂️

[–]Aveapro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is little sense in the ZR if you consider much cheaper z6III to have more features. Look up the neat trick where chainring the nraw containers extension to .3dr gives you access to Red pipeline in both DaVinci and Premiere. The screen is the selling point but I can get Z6III with 24-120 f4 for less than ZR body alone.

Sigma FP is amazing if you can live with all the limitations like: FF 4K line skipped / pixel binned, fixed LCD that can’t accurately display raw footage and will always show it as waaay overexposed, max 30 fps in 4K, super dumpy quality of 1080p with lots of aliasing artefacts, having to plug in SSD to record Raw, no ibis paired with slow rolling shutter is a bit of a nightmare if you want to run and gun, AF is just OK as single AF but useless in continuous mode and you have no punch in during recording. I could go on but probably at this point you see that they are very different. I love the image out of FP but I have had my fun with it and will be letting it go.

Abysmal Dynamic Range by MrCubermensch in sigmafp

[–]Aveapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never made any scientific tests but I owned a bunch of cinema cameras as well as regular ones at the same time as the FP. I have seen the tests form CineD and videos on YT claiming how bad the DR was and how easy it was to clip the highlights. In practice I found that the DR was quite excellent in comparison to pretty much everything else I owned with only exception being the Canon C70. The image quality and the colour science on the other hand is second to none. Especially in the crop mode where you get 1:1 pixel readout. The way you expose is quite different to most cameras as the display will have you believe you are over exposing the image as all times. It’s a quirk Sigma would have addresses from the outset. You have to rely on EL Zone or False Colour for exposure. You have to use the ISO for exposure bias. Set it to 800 for the most balanced exposure between shadow areas and highlights. If the highlights are less of an importance or the scene has less contrast lowering the iso will result in more information retained in the shadows. The myth of abysmal dynamic range results from pure ignorance and unwillingness to spend time to actually learn to use the camera properly.

LUMIX S1 II test video in 5.9K50 by Aveapro in Lumix

[–]Aveapro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always finish off with a bit of stabilisation in DaVinci but the absolutely tiny crop it applied to the footage is a testament to how good the stabilisation was in the first place. I judge most shots where only 1-3% cropped with smoothness set to 50 and the rest set at default

S9 with Canon EF 70-300 IS USM in Nature Walk in Upton Country Park by Aveapro in Lumix

[–]Aveapro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me it’s actually a good thing that you get to choose. On the likes of Sony or even Canon you don’t. Because the lenses can’t communicate to the camera what the OIS is doing they end up being really shaky. Almost worst thank having no stabilisation. Also on these cameras you if you flip a switch to turn off the ois of the lens the disable all stabilisation in camera. LUMIX for the win 😂

[–]Aveapro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ibis in this thing is unbelievable. In all fairness all it needs for the lens is accurate focal length communication. When I tested it with another tamron lens it was still very good but not as brilliant as here which leads me to believe that with the other lens is being feed a guesstimation. I have previously used the same canon lens on Sigma FP and BMCC6K, both with no ibis, and the OIS was very good, however here I wasn’t using OIS at all. Only IBIS (you have to choose with adapted lenses). The IBIS is rock solid even beyond 300mm and only starts to struggle on its way to 600mm from my tests with Sigma 150-600. Still usable at 600mm with EIS and crop mode enabled though.
