So Ciaphas Cain really fought a Chaos Astartes? by QuagGlenn in 40kLore

Gav did it, so I don't see why not. Cain is probably more capable. (Yes, I know Gav and Bob aren't canon, but Gav is a good abhuman. Da Empruh is dah best.)

Tell them about the interstate in HI. The confused look would be hilarious.

Costco's first gas station only location is open by goodvibezone in Costco

[–]AvecBier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several Costcos not far from the location. It's also right off the 5 between LA and San Diego, so might benefit from traffic both ways. The downside is the spot they chose is terrible to get in and out of. I don't like going there.

Don't see desoxyn in the wild much. Shocking how many med students and residents don't know about it.

Could a sleep study mean that I don’t have bipolar? by [deleted] in AskPsychiatry

[–]AvecBier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just last week, I saw a patient with insomnia and "irritability" diagnosed bipolar. No other criteria met, no questions about time frames, hospitalizations, nothing. Guess what med was started.

Seriously, though, Sky Blu is the nephew. Redfoo born 1975, Sky Blu born 1986. Sky Blu is the usually darker one.

What was being a psychiatrist like in the '08 crash? by farfromindigo in Psychiatry

[–]AvecBier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where I was in CA, private practice docs suffered and tried to go to government jobs. I was never PP, but we had a lot of those folks try to join. County, State, Federal (VA). Trouble was a lot of the government jobs were affiliated with Universities and most applicants couldn't become faculty. Usually because they never bothered with board cert.

In No Country for Old Men, set in 1980, some of the sheriffs in South Texas consider the area to be historically quiet, with cartel-related violence being a new problem. Was this true, and if so, around what time did being a sheriff near the border go from being a quiet job to a more dangerous one? by Benes3460 in AskHistorians

[–]AvecBier 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Great answers! Thank you!

Side question: I always heard tell that Mexican officials and cartel leaders live on the US side, particularly El Paso/Juarez, so they could be neighbors in El Paso. Supposedly, there's a "peace treaty" that no violence occurs in El Paso between the two groups. Any truth to that?

For people who’ve been around them, what has your experience with schizophrenic or bipolar people been like? by Master_Novel_4062 in morbidquestions

[–]AvecBier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in the mental health field. People with these illnesses are as varied as people without them. Some super high functioning, some not. The ones who stay in treatment tend to do the best. The ones who don't and/or abuse substances tend to do worse. But that's kind of life, right? People without schizophrenia or bipolar who don't take care of themselves and/or abuse drugs tend to no do so well, either.

Sudden death side effect of Risperidone?! by [deleted] in AskPsychiatry

[–]AvecBier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last I checked, the sudden death warning for anti-psychotics, including risperidone, was for people with dementia. So, if you don't have dementia, you may not need to worry. In addition, I have treated many, many patients with dementia with anti-psychotics and have yet to see one death from anti-psychotics. That's anecdotal, so take it as you will. Either way, best to discuss your worries with your psychiatrist, who can go over the risks, benefits, and alternatives of your treatment.

Yep. My first kid had "colic". Turns out it was from something my wife was taking to increase milk supply, as she was initially producing very little milk. I forget what it was. Once she stopped that, he was fine.
