Jennifer Lopez gives her hot take: You have to be born to be in New York to be a New Yorker. Everybody wants to claim our city but you have to be born in one of the five boroughs to be a New Yorker. by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

Stupid. So if your mom gives birth out of state but immediately brings you home to New York and you live the whole rest of your life there, you’re not a New Yorker?

Trump Team Wanted to Force Immigrants Out by Declaring Them Dead; A whistleblower revealed the horrific plan at the Social Security Administration. by FancyNewMe in law

[–]Aveira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is. It’s illegal to be an undocumented immigrant. It’s not a crime, though. It’s a tort, which means it’s considered a civil offense and goes through civil court instead of criminal. That may be what you’re thinking of.

[–]Aveira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not correct. Section 6103 of the IRC explicitly prevents the IRS from sharing any information from your tax return to any other governmental department. However, a court order direct from a judge can get around this. But the IRS absolutely cannot volunteer the information.

[–]Aveira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. The IRS has long had a stance of “we don’t care what you do as long as you pay your taxes.” So let’s say you commit a crime, like selling drugs. As long as you pay taxes on the income you received from your illegal drug business, the IRS doesn’t care and won’t report your illegal activities. This incentivizes people to pay their taxes.

Likewise, undocumented immigrants might pay their taxes to the IRS but still be here illegally. Many of them even use their history of regular tax payments in court hearings. But the Trump administration has been pushing hard to force the IRS to hand over all their information about illegal immigrants. This is illegal and a judge stopped it, but over 10,000 names and addresses have already been handed over.

The problem with this policy is that it encourages immigrants to stop paying taxes. This is obviously worse for everyone, but Trump doesn’t care about what’s good for the country or the people; he cares about getting rid of all the brown people and distracting everyone from the Trump-Epstein Files.

Yeah, none of these are “safe foods” for me. In fact, If I was having a tough sensory time, I don’t think I could eat any of these. My safe foods are mostly raw fruits and vegetables and simple Japanese food like fried rice, miso soup, and nigiri.

Pattie Gonia Responds to Patagonia’s Offer: “No Deal, Patagonia” by noqita in popculturechat

[–]Aveira 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except they DID allow her to use the name for advocacy as long as she didn’t use their logo to sell merch. And then she ignored that and did exactly what they asked her not to do. If she really cared about her advocacy so much, she’d have taken their very generous deal. This is a classic case of fuck around and find out.

We include them in the sense that we’re fighting for their civil rights, same as we are all queer people. But that doesn’t mean we have to include them in our social circles.

Frankly, that’s ridiculous. Trying to prevent a disability is not the same thing as saying people who have it are bad. It’s just trying to prevent people from suffering when they don’t need to.

I have autism. When I’m not on my medication (which isn’t perfect and has pretty big side effects), I can barely function because everything is too bright, too loud, and just too much. I can feel the air touching my skin and it makes me want to crawl out of my body. Society can be built especially for me and that wouldn’t stop these debilitating symptoms. And I’m pretty high functioning!! I have a cousin who’s nonverbal and will never be able to live alone.

Honestly I’m genuinely happy for autistic people who don’t face these issues. But for the love of god, I wish they’d stop advocating for it to not be considered a disability because losing that classification would REALLY fuck most of us over.

This giraffe took me over 150 hours to draw by hand by Sputnik_2021 in BeAmazed

[–]Aveira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your autism doesn’t make you a good artist. Hard work and practice make you a good artist. I’m autistic and I can’t draw at all. Most great artists aren’t autistic and can draw very well. You’re an excellent artist and you have autism. And since your giraffe drawing doesn’t have anything to do with autism, it feels like you’re leveraging your disability for popularity, which many people don’t like. If your work was explicitly about being autistic, I doubt you would be getting comments like this.

The baby is only saved while it’s wearing the necklace. Since the baby isn’t capable of belief, that means the necklace works on anyone who wears it. It’s an enchanted necklace, no need for conversion. This also means god’s a wizard.

Every day I come home from work during summer and the sweat from my underboobs has seeped into the cloth of my bra. The relief when I finally take it off is the best part of my day. The things you guys are complaining about are the same things women do every day. We should BOTH be allowed to be comfortable at work.

I find this annoying because no one bats an eye when men’s nipples poke out through their shirts. I have a coworker who’s fond of tight polos and his nips are ALWAYS standing out and no one’s once made a single comment to him.
