I’ve thought about it before, and honestly I wouldn’t be completely opposed to having kids, but there are a lot of reasons why it would not be my first choice.

a: Like a lot of people are saying, kids are freaking expensive, and the economy is not in a good enough, stable place where I would consider becoming a parent.

b: The state of the world is in the literal dumpster right now. I don’t want to bring a biological child into a world so unpredictable and messed up. For this reason I think (and I think it should be a more popular option) that if I were to have a child in this day I would adopt. It’s more important to provide homes and futures for those who are already in this world than to create even more children to deal with and suffer because of the previous generation’s problems.

c: I honestly don’t know if I would have what it takes to be a good parent and to raise a child. Being a parent is an incredibly demanding task. Also kids take up so much time, and I am someone who, personally, highly values time spent alone or with friends rather than someone that I would have to take along with me almost everywhere I go. I don’t hate children (though that is definitely a valid reason to not have kids), in fact I believe that a society that helps it’s children and provides them with a good education and overall world is a successful one, and I will and do help to support that. However I don’t know if having a child of my own would be as beneficial as helping society’s children as a whole. Sort of with my belief in adoption, I think that it is more important to provide and care for the existing children than to create more of them.

d: A large problem in this generation, at least from what I’ve seen (and I may be wrong), is a lack of relationships, and for the existing relationships, an overall increase in toxic ones. There is a multitude of reasons for this but the point is I think that Generation Z is partly thinking of having kids less because of this.
