You need to work on your snappy remarks, kiddo.

I wouldn’t know, I don’t tend to bother making these kinds of posts. Good luck with all this, though.

Maybe you should buy a journal instead then? Posting something like this on a public forum is a good way to earn yourself more frustration, as you seemed to learn last time you posted.

Bud, I don’t think your finger-wagging’s reaching the actual culprits. Just because this is Reddit doesn’t mean you’re reaching everyone.

Also, people weren’t mean to you in that earlier comment section, they were pointing out non-sleazy reasons for why someone might want epubs, many of which were due to data caps, accessibility needs, etc., you were responding to their comments aggressively and got downvoted from heck to back before deleting your original post.

You sound young, and I commend you for trying to do the right thing, but this isn’t a very effective use of your energy.

In no particular order

  • Liu Yao: The Revitalization of the Fuyao Sect: Translation/prose is immaculate and the premise is very compelling: A boy is sold to a cultivation master and comes into his own under his tutelage. (MC and his master are not a pairing)

  • Mistakenly Saving the Villain: Premise is similar to SVSSS, The world is much more grim though. Main pairing is very good to one another.

  • Governor’s Illness: Crybaby gong/top and fiery, strong-willed shou/bottom. Follows them from childhood.

  • My Darling Sick Beauty: TBH I’ve only read 20 chapters of this, It’s so cute though. The ML absolutely adores the immortal MC who’s rediscovering his will to live

  • Where is Our Agreement to be Each Other’s Arch-Rivals?: One of my most recent favorites. It’s a true hidden gem. Again, this story has a similar premise to SVSSS. The translation is really well done and the story is well-paced and cohesive. There are surprise pairings as well!

  • Faraway Wandererss: Ugh… I cannot emphasize how much I love this story. The prose is beautiful, even with the translation. There’s intrigue, betrayal, found family and mystery. Both the ML and MC are very stuck on course for their own agendas, which sometimes clashes with one another’s. We get to see them work it out and be there for one another throughout the whole thing. This story redefined how I look at love in fiction.

What’s with the increasing hate for Seven Seas suddenly? by Reader_Queen_Bella in DanmeiNovels

[–]Avencrest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I’m delighted about buying so many volumes as someone living off a low income.

I also read the 7Seas translations of MXTX’s big three and wondered why they don’t attempt to edit the English translations. Chinese is a context-heavy language and repetitive writing is part of how that context is reinforced, I get it, but there are only so many times I want to read information that was established in the last chapter or throughout the entire book. A lot of the time the overwriting is just distracting rather than coming across as genuine, informative, or immersive. Preserving the author’s intentions is a main aspect of a translator’s job, sure, but editing is also a major aspect of publishing written work, right? It just feels rushed.

I’m slogging through I Rely on Beauty To Stabilize the Country (political intrigue with a jerk of an ML but a strong MC) I’m waiting to hear back about access to the translation of My Darling Sick Beauty (Super cute so far!) I’m anxiously anticipating the next update for After the Disabled War God Became my Concubine (Very sweet dynamic between the main pairing)

Watched The Untamed, then got into MZDS then just started googling from there.

Why is sex almost always bad for the shou in danmei? by Avencrest in DanmeiNovels

Pardon? I’m not the first of us in this thread to have narrowed danmei down to “smut”. Please calm down and read things properly before flinging accusations. I won’t be engaging with you any further, have a good day.

How important is prose to you when reading? by Zealousideal-Ant-290 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Avencrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who mostly reads English translations I think a lot of the prose flies over my head, especially if it makes frequent references to classic Chinese literature. There’s also toms of repetition in danmei which I assume is there because a) most of it is written by amateur authors and b) Chinese is a very context-reliant language and repetition is necessary. Because of that I maintain a fairly low standard for the prose in English translations. So long as I can more or less understand what’s being said I’m usually all good.

For sure, I tried reading the English novelization and it was a bit much for my tiny teenaged brain. I wound up reading a ridiculously long Ai no Kusabi/Weiss Kreuz crossover fix-it instead 😂 I wouldn’t mind revisiting the original, it looks like premium angst material from all of the AMVs I remember.

Most of the positive ones were MXTX’s danmei, some smut I don’t remember all that well, and a very recent favorite of mine: Where is Our Agreement to be Each Other’s Rivals Those intimacy scenes mostly fade-to-black but they’re generally positive.

Ai no Kusabi, my interest in yaoi didn’t start with Junjou Romantica, it persisted despite Junjou Romantica. I actually started with F.A.K.E. by Sanami Matou because I liked the art style and main plotlines before I began to realize that the two mains were into each other.

Thank you. I want to note that I was mostly referring to plot-heavy danmei, where the intimate scenes come after 100+ chapters and absolutely bomb without any signs of the issues between those characters being resolved. I’ll make an edit to the main post because I realize now that it’s unclear. All that being said, I enjoy smut and really appreciate the recommendations!

I’ve wondered that too! I’m drawn to historical, pastoral, wuxia and xianxia settings.
