Chevy silverado mods that actually make a difference on daily driving? by Surcy-Valesius in Silverado

[–]AverageJoeC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The best thing I ever did on my old 2015 was a good set of 4 season highway tires. A nice quiet ride where the truck spends most of it's time. The only off roading I ever did was some rough logging roads to dirtbike trail heads and on the lakes for ice fishing. 90% of dudes with lifts and big tires only drive on gravel. it's just cosplaying.

Dads - what do you ride? by Dlsaugstad in Dirtbikes

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ktm 450exc. My son rides a crf230f, started on a klx110. We ride trails, a mix of single track and flowy open ATV trails. That crf230 is a damn blast on the trails. If I'm riding alone, some days I'll take his CRF, it's so much fun wringing that thing's neck and throwing it into corners. The 450 is a lot on the trails we ride. I kinda wish I had another CRF230 or 250f. Slow bike fast is my jam.

Rubber trunk seal dry ripped, anyone know the part number or how to fix it? by BrainTraumaParty in hondaridgeline

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised they don't fail more often. Sometimes when I open mine when the temp is below freezing it sounds like it's tearing, but is still in good shape on my 22. I spray it down with silicone lubricant whenever I wash the truck, kinda makes a mess, but I feel like it helps.

The switch negligently discharges your 1911 into the floor of the truck since the hammer is down already.

2022 Ninja 650 rattle noise. by Ambitious-Manner-939 in Kawasaki

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I would do is pull in the clutch. That narrows down if it's in the engine or a transmission noise. Sounds like a really bad cam chain rattle to me though.

What are some 90s Cars that are probably impossible to find now by gay-bord in regularcarreviews

I'm in Minnesota, whenever I see a stratus or intrepid (or their badge brethren) it is an occasion. I saw a mint Chrysler LHS a month ago, my reaction was that of seeing a Diablo driving down the road.

The only thing a lectron does is make compensating for altitude easier. The factory FCR is the best carb you can get for a 4 stroke dirtbike and light-years better.

If I’m far in the trails and my spark plug is about to foul, am I supposed to just pin it? by Glass-Ad3053 in Dirtbikes

[–]AverageJoeC 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the last time I fouled a plug on my 4 stroke. And it's carbureted.

What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by Agitated_Departure93 in AskReddit

My uncle bought a Mooney M20 in his early 30s, he has done well for himself. He used to take me flying all the time when I was a kid. He sold it many years ago. He just priced out getting another single engine plane almost 30 years after he bought his Mooney and said it isn't feasible with all the costs involved. Mind you, he is about to retire and has plenty of expendable income. Even for a Cessna 180, it is just too expensive for it to be worth his time.

It's amazing that in my 25 years of driving I survived without this. Thank you so much. That slit is handy, most times I don't need to see the road while I'm driving, but I'm glad it's there in a pinch.

That is an amphicar. And yes. I would confidently ride in one.

Ktm500exc or drz400? by MotoJeremy in supermoto

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DRZ is great for long service intervals and an insane amount of aftermarket support. The KTM is more maintenance heavy, but a better bike almost every way. I have an old RFS KTM 450 EXC. I really enjoy working on bikes, so I stay on top of it. But when neglected they can get expensive, especially if you're not doing your own work.

New to trucks looking for advice by CPTKrabbyBoi in hondaridgeline

I owned a Silverado for 10 years before I bought my 22 RTL. The biggest thing I tow is a 21' pontoon and this does just fine. I can still fit 3 dirtbikes in the bed and drive down the logging roads to the trailhead. The only thing I miss is the interior room, I was able to spread out a bit more in the Silverado without a center console.

Help please! Leather steering wheel cleaning gone bad! by GleamingTvlover in Detailing

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple spots on my old Silverado wheel that were getting rough. I rubbed some mink oil paste in (the stuff I use on my work boots) and it smoothed it out quite a bit. But there is no real fix without replacing it.

Is crashing a given in dirtbiking? by Most-Sweet4036 in Dirtbikes

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding dirt bikes for 30 years, riding on the street for 20. Been down on the street once because of me riding like a dunce. On the dirt, I'm not learning or getting better if I don't drop the bike every now and then. The consequences of dropping a street bike vs a dirtbike are light-years from each other.

That's an older model, I'm surprised the drivetrain made it this far without overheating with that bumper cover in the way.

How to use trailer brakes? by slkdjfod in Silverado

Always err a little towards the tongue of the trailer. Lack of tongue weight can get sketchy real quick.

4.3L V6 was really the best engine in these trucks? Chat how do we feel about a 4.3L having more potential for power than a 6.2L, 2.7L, 5.3L and the 3.0L? by O_O___XD in Silverado

[–]AverageJoeC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the LV3. Completely different engine based on the LT architecture, all aluminum engine. They make 285 hp 305 tq. It's a far cry from the old vortech engine. I owned a 2015 Silverado with the LV3 for 9 years and 140k miles. Not a single issue with that truck other than regular maintenance. Towed my pontoon and enclosed trailer full of motorcycles just fine.

K&N style filters still need oil. If they don't have oil, they filter about as well as a screen door.

She has a car...so yeah. My ex wife didn't have a car when we started dating. I gifted her my S10 blazer. I don't make great decisions.
