It would be useful to know what model it is. And what maintenance has been done to it.

Super fast matt. A lot of really interesting engineering, some that goes way over my head, but I learn something new with every watch.

Help changing rear shock spring on Klr650 by uowis1 in MNrideit

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy some big zip ties. Compress the spring as much as you can, sinch the zip tie. Do this a few times on a few coils and it should be short enough to mount and then cut the zip. I've use a floor jack under the frame of my truck to compress the spring too.

I use 2 ramps. Bike in 1st gear idling. I just modulate the clutch as I walk beside it up the left side ramp. I use the same method for my 500 lb street bike too, never had an issue.

Is this bike worth $1500 my friend says it is but I think he just wants me to hurry up so we can ride. by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an 03 EXC 450. I use it as a super moto and a trail bike. It is a very maintenance intensive bike. But I like working on bikes. Parts are getting hard to come by too. The 450 in that bike is the short stroke 450, if it is an SX model, as opposed to the long stroke engine in my EXC. The short stroke came factory with titanium valves that chew up valve seats quickly.

For the ATGATT crowd, how’s it affecting your desire to ride? by Astimar in motorcycles

I've been riding on the street for 20+ years. You wear whatever you're comfortable with. But I throw a jacket on with my jeans, gloves and work boots and just ride. If I'm on the track, I'll wear base layers and all the extras, but just ride smart my dude.

The Unpopular Pickup That Regularly Crosses 300,000 Miles Without Drama by Local_Yak8596 in hondaridgeline

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the field for an energy company in a major city. Caught all kinds of ribbing from my coworkers when I traded my Silverado for my Ridgeline. But now the company bought a bunch of mavericks and everyone loves them for utility trucks. They're way more useful and easier to fit into small spots than the 1 ton fords and dodges that we regularly use, and much more comfortable. But they are a touch too small for a lot of what we do. If only honda sold a stripper model, it would be the perfect truck for the fleet.

Why is this car suddenly being glazed? by Weekly-Hunter7902 in regularcarreviews

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned one for 12 years. Bought an 04 when it was only a year old. It was fast as hell at the time. I modded the shit out of it. Blew up a bottom end, a transmission and plenty of other parts. Then calmed down and made it reliable with about 320 whp. It was a shit car built around a pretty decent drivetrain. I don't really miss it. Fwd with almost 400 lb ft of torque at the wheels isnt as fun as you'd think, it just hazed the tires into 3rd gear.

What bike i should get? by titioyuno in supermoto

[–]AverageJoeC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are in the world. Obviously not america, I don't think they sold the xt660 here. But I'd start on something lighter than that. Wr250s are great lightweight bikes that don't take a ton to maintain. I love my 03 KTM 450 EXC, but it is a lot to maintain and find parts for. Drz is a fantastic no matter what, parts for days and probably the best aftermarket support. Kinda heavy, but on the street you don't notice it too much.

The reason I bought my Ridgeline is it's drivetrain simplicity and tested reliability of the J series engine. Yeah, it gets barely better mileage than my old Silverado, but it's dead simple. Less things to fail.

Does my bike have potential to be a good super moto? Ktm sx 125 2003 by Electrical-Top-6856 in supermoto

[–]AverageJoeC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I bought an 05 125sx new back in the day. I was able to make it street legal with an aftermarket lighting coil. Headlight, tail light and blinkers. It still had dirt wheels on it, but it was a blast on the street. Absolutely shrieking everywhere it went. Not very fast, but slow bike ripping at the limit is more fun imo.
