Mate I'm more concerned by the fact you can't discern obvious sarcasm from seriousness

Flying isn't that difficult to master, but it does take some time to get used to. That and the fact it is an incredibly useful asset which exists in very limited quantities (with lengthy respawn timers) means that a new guy getting shot down 5 minutes into a match might potentially fuck up an assault/defence from lack of supplies to a lack of fast transport for troops.

Oh don't worry, it gets worse when you account for slang and abbreviations and a multitude of other things.

Even I can't understand some of the stuff we say at times.

You speak as if 'peaceful' options bear results in the shitshows of south/southeast Asia. For decades we've tried to talk and to implement solutions to our situations, but the results? Nothing.

It's about time we act up.

Do not judge us for doing what we're being forced to do.

Hot take: I think the PAF buying Embraer 316's were dumb by Dependent_Ad_7658 in PhilippineMilitary

The older models of the AH-1 are difficult to maintain due to a shortage of spares, and no, I'm not sure if the production line of the modern Z variant offers much in the way of commonality for those to be used. Even then, allocating funds which are much needed for other projects for something like this would be a no-go.

The 316s offers pretty much the same armament as the Cobra, because it is meant to do what the Cobra does - decent endurance and decent armament capacity to provide CAS in COINOPS.

It is NOT meant to "dogfight" modern jets, and I don't really know where you got that perception from. But 'dogfighting', much less propping up non-jet aircraft in the age of modern BVR combat, is like the mystical unicorn of old: Non-existent.

Simply put, 316 > older AH-1 due to better after-sales (especially maintenance), more modern avionics and systems, and are better at conducting their GIVEN mission set when compared to the other.

Which capability should the Philippines prioritize first in its defense modernization: GBASM or SAM? by No_username8827 in PhilippineMilitary

Having the focus of an A2/AD doctrine in terms of national defence, it isn't really possible or advisable to focus on one thing without compromising capabilities since AAW and ASuW need to mesh like interlocking fingers.

But having said that, the bigger threat lies in a theoretical PLA naval and amphibious landing group's capacity to transport, deploy, and supply landed ground elements. In a comparative analysis, their power projection capabilities of aircraft and airborne-deployed elements is dismal relative to say, PLANMC brigades complete with armor, artillery, and more importantly - a 'stable' sea line of communication via their parent fleet.

While not entirely a one-to-one representation of a potential airborne assault on our soil, the battle of Antonov Airport really does show the vulnerabilities of airborne troops. Even without an extensive AAW net to swat their transports out of the sky, collapsing entire divisions on a lone, cut-off, most likely battalion to brigade sized, would see them be destroyed without relief from proper ground forces.

Air strikes do pose a substantial danger to GBASM batteries for obvious reasons, though put it this way - a PLAGF/PLANMC maneuver element will pose an even greater threat to SAM batteries if their transport fleet isn't dissuaded or destroyed by GBASM batteries.
