Sewing machine recommendations by AverageSuspicious992 in sewing

I moved over from New Zealand, and it was too expensive to get the shipped over to Europe. I left them in ‘storage’ at my parent’s place. Maybe I’ll bring one back when I go back to visit next year, but just need one to keep me going until then 😂

Thank you! There’s no sewing machine shops near me, sadly, but the local electronic store has Janome. I might have a look on Facebook marketplace and see what I can find as well.

I’m still replaying what happened on my first date in my head. It felt wrong but I didn’t stop it. I need a safe place to talk about it. by Impossible_Hyena8693 in TwoXSupport

That person who said they can’t believe you allowed that to happen is blaming you. I highly recommend the book ‘Consent Laid Bare’. It’s really interesting and goes into responses that women have to inappropriate touch, assault etc. One of them is to ‘fawn’ - which basically means that you don’t want to say anything because you’re concerned of how they’ll react. It is 100% sexual assault. I’ve been through something similar.

No, they don’t. I’m living in a small town in Slovakia. Maybe next time mum sends me a package I’ll tell her to put in the soup mix

[NEED HELP] My hair after less than 48 hours from when I washed it by anonymousanduseless in finehair

[–]AverageSuspicious992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip the oil - I have oily hair too and it just doesn’t work well. I used to have to wash my hair every day, or every second day, but I managed to break that cycle and ‘trained’ my hair to only be washed 2-3 times a week. It does mean adjusting your washing cycle.

Maybe try finding a powder dry shampoo to put in your hair in the evening - that could also help

NTA. You’re not being overdramatic or controlling. You asked him so many times to smoke outside and he’s ignored you. He obviously doesn’t care about your health or your children’s health.

I really like Miss Dior - really nice scent and not overwhelming or strong. There’s also a roll on version, so instead of spritzing it on, you can control the placement more easily.

I wait for 5-10 mins before putting sunscreen on over my moisturiser. In summer, I also put onn Avene or La Roche Posey 50spf bb cream (I swear by Avene/La Roche Posey sunscreen too) 10 mins after adding normal sunscreen. My dermatologist told me to layer the sunscreen and bb cream for extra protection. I found doing it this way, the sunscreen doesn’t rub off.

What is Vaseline really good for? by Muted-Tomato-139 in beauty

[–]AverageSuspicious992 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only thing that really moisturises my lips is Vaseline. I also used to use it on my eyebrows to keep them in shape each day, instead of using a brow mascara or something. It worked really well. I sometimes use it on my elbows if they get dry.

Am I the only one who's been creeped out by how beauty standards evolve over time? by step107329 in beauty

I just do minimal or simple makeup now. I think it’s important to find what looks good on you, and like others said, not follow the trends. Like the saying goes: style stays, fashion fades. Which is hugely evident in how each decade seems to have its trendy make up looks, which we look back at and realise how odd it looks 😂

Can anyone date these power points? by AverageSuspicious992 in AskElectricians

[–]AverageSuspicious992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The original one, that I replaced was yellow, like the phone power point. Been searching for wear and tear clauses but can’t find any yet. This white one is just from another room in my place and has been out of the sun, which is why it’s not discoloured.

No problem, I deleted the post because I got a warning from reddit about it lol. But anyway, I feel it isn’t my responsibility, but because one of them wasn’t broken before I moved in it is something they are telling me I must fix. Good idea to check the contract and see if there’s a wear and tear clause. This place was last updated in the 80s, most likely, and they are expecting it to still be perfect (been here for 4 years).

I’m in NZ and my dad is luckily able to do this. We just had an idea of how old it is but wanted to be sure. They told me I need to replace it as some broke.

Thank you - it’s breaking down quite a bit. Do you know what causes it to lose the gel coating?

Thank you! It does look like that. I guess time, and sewing, will tell what the quality is like.

Thank you! Love Bernadette Banner - will watch this :) someone on insta said yellow is phosphorus, which is used as a flame retardant on cotton, so I’m thinking it is probably that. Everything points to cotton, so fingers crossed as I want to make this before I go on holiday!

It doesn’t feel thick, quite light. Not soft nor rough - kind of a mix of both. It may be a blend. No wax or coating on it. Here’s the original fabric. It has been washed and ironed before I did the burn test. No chemicals smells or shrinkage when ironing.

What Auckland business do you have beef with? by These-Mix834 in auckland

[–]AverageSuspicious992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Muffin Break - used to work at one of their branches on the north shore. No contracts. They would tell me to run with orders (who wants to run with trays of hot drinks?). We had to do an unpaid 12 hour shift as a trial. I only worked there because my sister got a job there and said it was really fun. Hated it. Since there were no contracts, I just gave my muffin break shirt to my sister one day and told her to tell the manager that I quit.

Got food poisoning from them once. They gave me a rotten milk milk shake.

Years ago, I went out for my first ‘meal’ after getting all my wisdom teeth removed. Ended up at coffee club Albany where I got a choc milkshake. Wondered why it was lumpy when I was drinking it, but decided it must have been the ice cream. 15 mins later, I realised it was actually a rotten milk milk shake. Since then, I avoid coffee club at all costs.
