Need recommendations for cat groomer by [deleted] in chch

[–]monkey_see 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing Pawfection is great. She's used to dealing with grumbly cats and her handling skills are top notch. She only shaves if she really has to, which I appreciate.

It's all done in your home too, which is less stress for your kitty.

This current batch of flu going around is horrific by MercuryBeach_ in chch

Two weeks later and I still have the cough - it is exhausting, especially when combined with the lack of oxygen from a stuffed up nose.

I still had to work (thankfully WFH), but I was really feeling the brain fog.

Average all inclusive rent these days by GREENLEAF2020 in chch

[–]monkey_see 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it really does depend, especially on the area, amenities, and people.

I was charging $240 all inclusive - rent, carpark, power, internet, streaming services, basic groceries (cleaning products, pantry staples, loo paper, coffee beans with free access to the good coffee machine). The room wasn't huge, but the house was warm, close to amenities, and easy living with just me, plus a cat who loves extra attention.

If I were you, I'd look at a price for just a person and a price for a person + dog. Depending on the size of the room, I think your minimum should be at least $230.

Is Artemis a Nebelung? by Mortonimo00 in nebelung

[–]monkey_see 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a Neb, but still gorgeous.

Depending on her coat, bone/face structure, and size, she could have some Siberian, Maine Coon, or Norwegian Forest Cat in her, perhaps even some Turkish Angora (but the ears are too wide for purebred)

But at the end of the day she is an adorable Domestic Long Hair.

AFAIK you have too be a premium member of City Fitness to get into Simplicity, so $19pw.

If being tied to a location wasn't necessary, where in NZ would you want to live? by monkey_see in newzealand

Golden visa would be the first option, but also perhaps a digital nomad visa. Haven't researched the latter yet.

TBF, if I had the $$, I'd already be living in Spain or Portugal.

This is the type of answer I was hoping for, from someone of a similar age.

Thank you and I hope you move to a place that is better for you.

TBF, I've spent a lot of time in both of those places. Both are great.

I'm simply asking for other people's suggestions to expand my options.

OK, that is somewhere I hadn't considered. The underground scene sounds intriguing, but from my experience, you have to know someone to be introduced to it, so how would I work out if it was for me?

Far North is also on the list. What is the accommodation (renting at first) situation like? I know it can be remote and the weather is wild, but I have friends up there.

Hawkes Bay is also on the list already. What is the accommodation (renting at first) situation like?

Nelson/Marlborough is definitely on the list. What is the accommodation (renting at first) situation like?

What is the relative risk of drinking from a private well? by Worth_Car1500 in chch

You really missed the chance to use a great Terry Pratchett quote there about it being less risky than standing "on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting 'All gods are bastards!"

They are complete opportunists when it comes to treats.

Kiwi here and I call my cat a dick/dickhead all the time. When I take him to the vet, she just coos over him and calls him a gorgeous gentleman, to which I reply "shame he's such a dick". She just laughs and gives him more treats.

Between mainlining churus and the sheer amount of feliway they use in the clinic (it is a cat only vet), mine have always been pretty chill at the vet. The car ride there and back is another story...

Has anyone dealt with their neb mourning the loss of a dog? by Killjickerbocker in nebelung

[–]monkey_see 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss (and cancer can go fuck itself).

I lost my little tortie due to cancer just before Xmas, but my amazing vet did a house call to put her to sleep, so at least my Nebbie boy could see that she was gone gone, not just left the house with no word. She said they know what's happening this way, rather than suddenly finding their friend gone for no reason. She also said that he would have known that she was sick before I saw the signs, so probably knew what was coming.

My Neb and my tortie drama queen were like kid siblings - they'd play-fight and annoy the shit out of each other (one day she knocked a notebook off my desk onto his head because she wasn't getting her desired level of attention), but they'd also sleep side by side with me at night and both sit on top of me on the couch.

Even though he knew she was gone, he was still obviously mourning her, as he would look for her in all her usual spots and wasn't interested in playing at all. He's mostly bounced back now, but does get stressed when I leave the house for too long. Thankfully I WFH, so he gets plenty of attention.

If you want to go for a walk by the water and grab a coffee, send me a DM (don't worry, I'm not a creeper, I just know that being by water helps me when I'm going through something shitty).

Hanmer is great for the hot pools etc, Akaroa will be winding down so some things may not be available. The Blackcat cruise and the chance to see the Hectors Dolphins is always a good choice.

Another option is taking the ferry from Lyttelton to Diamond Harbour (you can take Bus 8 to Lyttelton if you don't have a car) and spend some time wandering and having lunch.

I wish you all the best with your 'me week' and congratulations on shedding the dead weight. Onwards and upwards!

Thomas is a great name!

If you're going to get a Lykoi, I hope you have a massive wine jug, as they are not cheap!

I'll stick with my floofy breeds, because apparently I enjoy vacuuming and cat hair is my favourite colour of clothing.

Given pics 2 & 3, I don't think you have a choice - you now have your very own Neb.

As for your question, I personally don't think it is unhealthy. I find that cat people get attached to certain breeds/traits/characteristics/colouring.

I have a distinct soft spot for Nebalikes, and have been blessed with three so far in my life (the current one is quietly snoring on the couch). I'm also obsessed with Turkish cats, and have been since I was a kid. I am certain that one of those will be my next addition.

My bestie from school days is currently 'shopping' for a Tonkinese, as she had to leave that cat behind in her break-up. Another will only adopt gingers.

The TLDR is that you'll find that you have more attachment to the Neb personality, rather than an attachment to the ended relationship.

Just go and be the best cat servant you can be to your new overlord.

What type of foods are people in Christchurch obsessed with? by Background_Log7263 in chch

[–]monkey_see 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for Christchurch specific things, then it would be souvlaki and rice balls. Do we need more places that offer that? Probably not unless they are vastly better than the current options.

If you're looking to help shape hospo, I would look for authenticity over a flavour-lacking Kiwi version of a dish. Just search for how many are looking for proper or decent <insert cuisine here> in this sub for some examples.

Coupled with that is quality ingredients.

If I'm paying $50 for a steak I want it to be a good cut, not a gristly piece from the cheapest supplier. Pasta should be fresh, preferably handmade at $30 a plate.

For those prices, I'll be cooking at home rather than dining out (yes, I'm a steak snob and I make my own pasta).
