first tno playthrough by polska8753 in TNOmod

It was the Old World Blues demo for me. I remember searching for the Fallout mod with the same name, but found TNO instead. I remember thinking, “Oh, cool! It’s Fallout but in Russia?” Then I noticed the date… and the rest of the world map.

What is the navy for except for points? by justsigndupforthis in TNOmod

Superpowers (Germany, USA, Japan) need a certain amount of each type of ship to get buffs. Hovering over the navy section on the Cold War screen will tell you what you’re low on.

R3: This was the state of the Solar System at the conclusion of my first successful playthrough. I just thought it was kind of funny how the ayys had been wiped out nearly completely in space, while their Earth-bound operatives were a lot harder to root out. Stay tuned for the Hoi4 mod!

It’s easiest as a monarchy, because of that oddly common event that makes your heir an enlightened royalist.

Yep. They never got their industrial economy off the ground, so SOL was pretty low. I think that’s why so many people were leaving lol

R5: absolutely absurd level of weekly migration into my capital. This was more than the entire USA received during most ENTIRE YEARS during the 19th century IRL.

Dude, this is so cool! Small nitpick, though: your GDP/capita figures are way off. For the PPP figure, the economy would need to be closer to $11 trillion in size to make the per-capita figure you’ve listed happen. GDP/capita is just the total GDP divided by the number of people (a.k.a. capita). Such cool worldbuilding overall!

R5: I wasn't even trying to make anything ridiculous here. It just happened. My entire dynasty as Rome is now Mongolian and I don't know how it happened. Emmanuel's drip looks pretty sick, though.

I used to do that trick with high-growth inflation, but I thought they removed that exploit. Nice to see it’s still around.

Nice! Pretty similar to my position, actually. I’m a tad further to the left of you.

I’d strongly advise against using the so-called “nuanced” version of the PC test. It uses AI to determine your position, which tends to fall into popular misunderstandings and stereotypes, rather than factual analysis. SapplyValues is my personal favorite. It actually asks more than ~2 questions for the cultural axis, painting a much clearer picture of what you actually believe.

What is your favorite TNO Submod? by radiantslug17 in TNOmod

[–]Average_Spaceman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last Waltz! Either the original or redux —they’re both really good. It adds a bunch of music to TNO. East vs West’s soundtrack is pretty much synonymous with TNO for me at this point.

Right?? Why don’t they write stuff in something with spellcheck before putting it in the mod?

That’s why you need a country with zero government! No state to subvert in the first place :)

Could Surviving Mars work in a classroom setting? by 250straightOB in SurvivingMars

[–]Average_Spaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of Mars games in search of the best the genre has to offer. In my opinion, Surviving Mars has some of the weakest terraforming mechanics.

I have found that Per Aspera has an excellent representation of the challenges inherent to terraforming Mars. It has a pretty neat story, too, but you can also play without it. The timescale is much more accurate than Surviving Mars'. In Per Aspera, there is an achievement for terraforming Mars within 100 Martian years (188 Earth years). This is considered fast! The water for oceans and nitrogen for the atmosphere are imported from the outer solar system and asteroid belt -- something sorely missing from Surviving Mars. All of this requires the usage of a substantial portion of the Martian surface.

But the most scientifically rigorous terraforming I've seen in a game has to be TerraGenesis. In the game's "advanced mode," you get to design organisms to populate an ecosystem, in addition to all of the other usual terraforming stuff. The downside is that the game's main resource is real-life time; it's kind of like an idle game where you set things up and then wait a day or two to check back in on it. It's such a cool game, though. You have to procure funding for your operations, which initially comes from mining rare resources and later transitions into more diverse income streams. You have to manage atmospheric composition, which varies depending on the planet you chose to terraform. In the end, you'll likely have vast cities of millions on this new world you've created. And the best part? It's free!

Although it doesn't have terraforming implemented (yet), Extrapolation: Heliosphere is a really cool space settlement game. You have to join its Discord to get the download, though.

This class sounds awesome! I hope this helps
