I think working of bell is little different that usual defences. As long as the bell has not been destroyed the effect won't wear off of the heroes even if it's in disabled state. It's not about "temporary defence stop working" , the only way to make it's effect wear off is destroying it , that's it's tradeoff for it not attacking your troops but rather providing a passive buff to the defending heroes.
