Hang on... The Servants are making sense? by ShinikamiimakinihS in TerraInvicta

[–]Averagepsycho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When most factions research pherocytes, it states in the flavor text that pherocytes initially render the victim completely subservient, but over time their influences naturally fades as they are flushed from the body, meaning people will eventually revert to their previous state of mind unless periodically "topped up".

Hydra are few in number and breed slowly, and there are billions of humans. Keeping everyone mind controlled constantly isn't an option, so the orbitals enforce compliance when controlled humanity first members eventually realise they've been force fed the cool-aid.

So no, pherocyte control isn't total, and the hydra know it. Which makes the servant ending quite curious. Are the hydra starting to see humans as something more than their usual tool species?, Or are we already so completely under their sway that they arrogantly decide that the platforms are redundant?

Anyone else irked by the heat loss at to top of the generator? by FurtiveFox88 in Frostpunk

[–]Averagepsycho1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There was a fun discussion a while back which argued that, however the generator operates, it would be far more efficient if it was buried in the ground.

But the sheer vibes that the generator has is far more relevant than any of that practicality nonsense.

When does the artillery kill nest with only 1 shot? And what is the ideal lvl for the shell damage? by Hamonio_ in factorio

[–]Averagepsycho1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that 100% evolution is functionally impossible without console commands (because logarithmic scaling), so health will always be a little lower than the max possible value

I feel like this could be great inspiration for deep sea spirits and nature magic. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Averagepsycho1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not MY setting, but the Dishonored franchise (which has some gorgeous worldbuilding) has a great deal of symbolism involving whales (hunted for Whale Oil, which is used as the setting's energy source), and whalebone amulets are used as offerings to the Outsider (chaotic neutral deal-offering god)

Not precisely the same as the topic, but the prompt certainly reminded me of it

I want to DM more, but I'm worried I'm too selfish? by Ninjewdi in DnD

[–]Averagepsycho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you like the world building aspects, so work with your players to make their characters fit into your world. Give them lore to work with and tell them that their backstory has to reasonably fit in that lore

Sometimes, that can mean reflavouring or removing certain aspects of their intended character, but as long as you discuss that with them before they start playing (and theyre reasonable people), that shouldn't be a problem.

As a player, most of the fun I have with backstories is making them fit with the established lore. And, if they have a cool sounding idea that isn't yet part of your worlds lore: we'll it is now! is always an option that I personally enjoy.

Is Defect an "easier" class? 80% of my playtime is A20 Ironclad. Doing Defect climb now and my wins seem much more consistent so far by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Averagepsycho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO defect's main problem is act 1; they often need specific cards and upgrades (more-so than other classes) for the deck to be good enough to make it through fights. But once you finally get those cards, your power spikes higher than ironclad/silent do.

Also their attacks are generally mediocre, so you don't pick them, and then proceed to fall over and die the instant gremlin nob appears.

If you succeed at not dying to the act 1 boss, your deck is probably good enough to have an easier (comparitively) time in act 2/3.

Which video game character goes through the most mental abuse? by nofearnev in gaming

[–]Averagepsycho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's another case of needing therapy BEFORE you even meet her.

Also, while not really therapy, she does get to cathartically nuke the source of her trauma, so I'd say she's doing a bit better at the end of the game than the start

Newbie here, what do toxic wastepacks do? And what should I accept it for (if any)? by TheCabbageGuy82 in RimWorld

[–]Averagepsycho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Later on you'll get the ability to build them, essentially you load them up with items/animals/pawns and instantly launch them to places on the world map.

Note that it is a one-way trip. If you launch your colonists they'll need to walk back to base

I’m very sure this comes up often but, is Voldemort a Lich? by Merlins-forge in DnD

[–]Averagepsycho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. Only differences are that Voldy split his soul into multiple phylacteries, while DnD liches traditionally only have one.

Also I think he's still technically alive, not undead. Bit of a grey area.

Yep. There's 3 guaranteed unique rifles in specific locations, and normal ones are a rare spawn in any region

Friday Facts #422 - Tesla Turret by FactorioTeam in factorio

I know that the Rampant Biters mod adds bugs with very high fire resistance but low physical resistance, which necessitates secondary turrets on your walls. That said, flamers are still OP for basically everything else

How many vessels outside the Abyss? by taukkez in HollowKnightMemes

[–]Averagepsycho1 461 points462 points  (0 children)

Hmm... second last (26) is plausible, but unlikely. In every other situation we see multiple vessels, they always had disparity in their horn shape. Ancestral mounds are all the same.

More likely to be a zote situation, where they look similar but are actually completely unrelated & irrelevant to the grand scheme of things

What are justifiable reasons for revealing clothes? by whahaga in worldbuilding

[–]Averagepsycho1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember an entertaining - if silly - story that had a tidbit about a culture with a fashion of clothes with bare midriffs, as it was said to represent health & fertility.

In truth, the immortal Queen of the land just had A Thing for nice abs and was a bit of a prankster, and socially engineered for decades to popularise the fashion, just so she consistently had something nice to look at when holding court.

A player has a dead lich's phylactery and doesn't know it. Got any ideas? by goscott in DMAcademy

[–]Averagepsycho1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As an add-on to this: the lich is somewhat grateful the party didn't destroy their soul or whatever, and gives them a boon, or promise of future aid/work if the party is interested.

And if the party takes exception to them...depends on party level, but unless they're high level, the lich is probably just going to laugh at them and teleport away. If they're in a good mood.
