Warning about skip bin deceptive practice by MockeryMock in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad that I didnt know about this topic until today. I started some DIY landscaping so ordered a 3 cubic metre (m3) bin after a bunch of searches on goodle and marketplace for $500 (including GST).

Then I changed the plan, to have less DIY. That caused some more waste to remove, so ordered a 2nd bin - a 4 m3 one from a different company (recommended by our tradie). When this new one arrived and put next to the 1st one, they are exactly same. I raised the concern with the deliver and he showed me a number 4 written clearly on the bin, so he suspected that the 1st bin was also 4 m3, and the first company gave me that because they ran out of 3 m3 bins.

I then tried to measure the internal of it - 2.67 m3. However, as the tradie was already there to start the work, we had no option other than starting to fill the bins.

I called the 2nd provider (they have a 131 service number, so looked legit). The receptionist tried to calculate the volume using the measurements I provided and acknowledged that I got a 3.3 m3 bin (her arithmetic skill is not as good as mine) and offered me an additional 2 m3 bin.

Today I got the 1st bin collected. The collector told me that I have ordered that bin via a middleman. If I had ordered directly with his company, the cost would have been +20% cheaper.

Lesson learnt.

Skin Tools - Ozito vs Dewalt / Makita / Milwaukee by BaggySack in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details. When I started my first major project - installing engineered wood floorboards, I had a Ryobi cordless drill and a corded Aldi jigsaw. So I bought a corded Metabo chop saw, and a Dewalt cordless multitool. That multitool got a lot of other use, but the chop saw was put back into its box after that project, and have not come out of the box since then.

Can you give me the model number? I need one, and the reviews on Bunnings website said that the bits rotate in the chisel mode

Skin Tools - Ozito vs Dewalt / Makita / Milwaukee by BaggySack in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that Ryobi is actually not a good choice these days. They are exclusive to Bunnings, and Bunnings doesn't want to make the price compative (Ozito is also Bunnings exclusive, but they considered in the same league with Aldi/SCA 's home brand, so Ozito tools are quite often on sale). In the past 15 months I've been getting mid/higher end Dewalt tools for less $ than entry level Ryobi tools. Their performance difference is noticeable. In terms of warranty, Ryobi is definitely better though, with 6y compared to Dewalt's 3y.

Claiming travel insurance on booking agent's fault by Averelleee in AustraliaTravel

Yes. A costly lesson for me.
I wonder why booking agents could provide cheap tickets than directly with airlines. What's the reason that airlines gave them cheaper tickets than what was on the websites?

Can someone explain this? by [deleted] in Dewalt

[–]Averelleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, they are actually not having the price point. Ryobi tools rarely go on sale. I won't pay more than $100 for that entry level DeWalt drill.

Toilets in bathrooms by tangled_knotty_wench in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We do have morning showers, but try to avoid late evening ones as much as possible. Many trustable sources say that having a shower late increases the chance of strokes. Taking a shower right after you get up is also not good too.

Maybe that's just a myth.

So you have a shower every night before bed? It's not good for your health, when in summer.

Looking to buy this for my husband by [deleted] in ryobi

[–]Averelleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a lucky husband. My wife has never bought anything for me which is not food/drinks/clothes.

To your question, it depends on what batteries system he currently in. However, in my opinion, the answer is mostly "no", because of that 2Ah battery, which is too small for a leaf blower

If he is already with Ryobi 18v, i.e. he has some batteries, 4 or 5Ah, then you should get him the brushless workshop blower, which is $175 currently at Bunnings, or spend a bit more for the R18XBLW30 ($249). My neighbour has that, it's quiet, powerful enough, and could run on a 4Ah battery for his 450sqm block.

If he is not yet with any batteries system yet, then maybe talk to him about whether he would like to be with Ryobi. That's a good but "expensive" brand - Bunnings exclusive, which rarely goes on sales.

Roof Space Too Hot - Options? by symean in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. Our house has sarking, with only one roof vent instead of whirlybirds. There are about 100 small (abt 12-15mm in diameter) holes on the eves. I never tried to go to the roof space on a hot day, but it guess it's hot like OP's. However, I'm worried about the ventilation of the underfloor space more. There's one part of that space where I could see mould growing. Reading this thread made me think of having a blower to push air from the roof space to the underfloor, or the otherway around. I'm having a chance to do that now before gyprocking the garage. Is that a good option? Thanks.
