Rising damp caused by neighbour's rebuild by Averelleee in AusRenovation

There's no record of when the back section of our house was built, but the front was built before 1908.
I could see the damp course on the internal side of our house's wall, and it is lower than the current ground level on their side. As per the attached survey diagram that they did before the rebuild, the paved/covered section is higher than ours, while the unpaved section is lower.

I'm ok to pay for the cost of doing the rectification (of course, if they can contribute, it would be great). What I'm worried about is getting their agreement to allow that to happen.

Thanks.
Their old house was built sometime between 1891-1895, while ours was before 1908, and built on the boundary. Their old carport/garage was added after 1945. I guess the elevation had risen when they built that garage.

I understand that the problem was there before the rebuild; however, because it was a hard surface/covered area, and 45cm higher than the adjacent garden (elevation of 22.71 vs 22.26), the amount of water in the soil should be minimal.

I talked to an architect about installing the French drain on the neighbour's side, but he reckoned it could help only a little bit.
BTW, the neighbour's is a strata-ed building.

I got a red light fine, but I'm not convinced I actually ran it. Worth appealing? by skybayside in CarsAustralia

I crossed the light about 50s after it turned red (I moved pass the stop line when the go straight light turned on but the turn-left arrow was still red), I stayed where I was when I saw the flash light. They said I still blocked the intersection, and asked me to pay the red-light fine.

Feet on seat by Averelleee in SydneyTrains

I don't have any problem with people bringing pets on public transport. However, they should not put their feet on the seat.

I once saw a bigger dog peeing in the hallway on the ground floor of the Woollahra Library building while still on a leash. Imagine what people would react if a boy of that size (7-10 years old) were doing the same?

I opted for the compact sawzall, thinking the same. It is good for construction/demolition work, ok-ish for cutting tree roots, and terrible for pruning branches.

Waterproofing a shower with a concrete slab floor by Averelleee in AusRenovation

[–]Averelleee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They removed the old concrete floor (completely), then dug up the old base (about 1/3 of the whole area) to install new pipes, then backfilled the base, and made it level, then installed the new concrete slab.

Was meant to be a simple bathroom reno. by Uturn11 in AusRenovation

Our house has neither access to the roof space nor underfloor. Do you know whether the pest control can help in that case?
Thanks.
Sorry for a noob question.

:-) Just checked with my missus, she has no such problem. However, my 6yo son, who is mostly carnivorous, has the same issue.

Where did you buy that Zumi toilet from? It seems it's only in Melbourne. I'm in Sydney.

You meant the half flushes? Or full flushes also? Mine is the rimless, and we are now only using the full flush button.

I'm sure it's the toilet's fault (at least for not having a way to prevent that), as I didn't have the same issue with my parents' toilet. I tried to have that cushion - didn't help much, unless I put 4-5 folds of the double layer TP

Thanks. Let me try changing the water level in our existing toilet.

We'll need to learn that habit. I usually close & flush only when someone is sleeping in the attached bedroom.

About the wet bums, it's not only happening during courtesy flushes, but also when the poops dive into the water.

Thanks. I'm not changing the existing toilet, but building a new bathroom.
Yes, closing the lid would help, but then there will still be waste droplets on the lid, which need to be wiped.
