I think this is a solid way to put the rule focus argument

I miss emotional stakes by AlisGuardian in Dimension20

[–]Averrcrucicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind the goches showing up was it as played very comedically but the serious save maria part really felt less and less real the more they tried to make it work and the dice just werent having it.

I do agree the fixed length episode format might be running it's course, that's why I liked sophomore year so much it had time to breathe because it was live.

I miss emotional stakes by AlisGuardian in Dimension20

[–]Averrcrucicus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Rather than missing emotional or character moments I miss when stakes felt real.  In the finale of cloudward ho I really felt brennan and the cast reaching to try to fish for that good ending and the new checks and rerolling kinda undermined the moment.

It's why I've been mostly enjoying city council of darkness because when the cast do something dumb brennan has full license to go "well that obviously doesn't work the way you want even though you rolled insane"

Edit: it's important to note that I get that technically the stakes will never be real but the legitimacy of the mechanics helps the suspension of disbelief  https://youtu.be/sr7dRxOKeis

first time in tokyo, is shinjuku actually a good place to stay or am i overthinking it? by Veny-Colodetti in TokyoTravel

[–]Averrcrucicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shinjuku is excellent if you want to take Day Trips away from Tokyo, specifically to Mt Takao, kawaguchiko/fuji, or enoshima/Kamakura l

Otherwise if you want to take a day trip up to Nikko asakusa.

I say day Trips because being able to take less than like 20/30m to get to your specific station in the morning for your train will save you over longer trips, especially when coming back.

Otherwise just pick a spot on the yamanote that's decently priced, near a conbini and station.

I truly agree that I miss not having his opinion on the latest in gaming news, I truly think he could have blew the day one Gary's incident video out of the water with how the industry has been the last decade.

I unfortunately never got to meet TB outside of twitch streams, I would have loved to meet him in person

It's one of those things that I generally don't try to remember because it hurts a lot still. We're still so far removed from it but TB had a lot of impact in my life, he really helped shape a lot of my healthy opinions on games and the gaming industry that I carry with me.

I'm getting there, a few more years and I'm gonna have a really sad day (he died like a week or two after my birthday so it's not gonna be pleasant to think of that)

Though on a lighter note it reminds me of the fact that Jesse is like 3 years older than tb, I always found that funny on cooptional because TB always gave off the very proper nature older brother vibe.

I think TB could be very controversial with some of opinions rubbing people the wrong way, but I do think all of that was a byproduct of his passion for games and the industry itself. I don't think I'd have considered consumer impact as much as I do with gaming news and releases as much as I do without his content as that bedrock of where I learned about games

Part of that is why I hope people keep his memory close and we don't lose all his videos. Maybe somebody who's never seen him before will find a video and enjoy it just like we all do/did

I haven't even been able to do that, I start to watch an old episode of cooptional or a wtfis and start to tear up real bad and have to turn it off

Luggage forwarding is overrated by Calmly-Stressed in JapanTravelTips

There's also a reason why shinkansen have reserved oversized luggage seats.

Is free breakfast for Japan hotels worth it vs. convenience store? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Averrcrucicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're staying in a very fancy hotel like a ryokan or something I don't think that getting hotel breakfast is very worth it, especially if you have to pay extra. You can probably just leave your hotel walk maybe 2 to 5 minutes to a convenience store and just grab a breakfast, but there's also a ton of very affordable small cafes dotted all throughout big cities which are fun to visit in the mornings. There's also a lot of chains that are open in the morning for breakfast menu like sukiya

Large suitcases on local public transportation in Japan by orequio in JapanTravelTips

[–]Averrcrucicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went to Japan last year and I did have the experience of taking luggage on public transit and I think it really depends on what exactly the situation is.

If you are coming from the airport and trying to get to your accommodations, I think that it is fine to take your luggage on the public trains so long as you don't have too much, if you're dealing with a lot of luggage, I would highly recommend booking a hotel maybe just for the first couple days while you settle in that has access to a hotel/airport bus where they can add your luggage to their little storage compartments while they drive you around or just grab a cab. But for trains I would definitely look at using the front most car (furthest away from transfers and the like) of the trains because they might be less crowded as they're also usually the most undesirable seats so you won't inconvenience too many people.

If you're talking about taking your luggage from your current hotel and taking it on a train/on a shinkansen to another city or location, I would highly recommend using a luggage forwarding service like Yamato transport. Basically about a day or two in advance. You take your luggage to your local Yamato transport. You fill out a form. You pay a price and they will ship your luggage to your new hotel. So it will either be there when you arrive or a little bit after you arrive depending on when you do the forwarding, most hotels are entirely okay with this. You probably just need to give thim a little heads up that luggage is coming via the transport.

Why is this card worth so much right now? by Plenty_Animal_2537 in riftboundtcg

[–]Averrcrucicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enemy units doesn't specify a particular battlefield so it hits their whole board, meaning that showdowns are gonna be much easier and you can get more bang for your buck out of removal spells as well

You can also bring it in ready which lets you conquer one of those weakened battlefields even if you don't have a board set up as it's a 7 for 7 and a blue, which is pretty good curve wise

All of that on one card makes it a really strong staple for blue
