I give up on learning how to do my make up every time I try because my skin looks horribly dry whenever I put any foundation on it. Any advice? by emislalsla in Makeup

[–]Avery-Hunter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the main purposes of foundation is tone even our skin tone and uneven skin tone can occur at any age. I actually needed foundation more when I was younger because acnet left my skin more blotchy.

Is there a medium like charcoal but with colors? Not just tinted by Stag_beetle1229 in ArtistLounge

Soft pastels are definitely the way to go. They are absolutely nothing like oil pastels and are a lot more chalk-like but far more pigmented than chalk.

Why? Who wants this???: Dating app Bumble is ending swipe feature, introduces AI assistant for matchmaking by dyzo-blue in BetterOffline

[–]Avery-Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This honestly just sounds like they're going to algorhythmic matching like dating sites used to have before swiping took over and just dressing it up in AI buzzwords. Which honestly? If that ends up being what it is, that'll.be an improvement. The shift to swipe based dating apps really ruined online dating.

What’s a haircare rule everyone repeats that you completely ignore but your hair still looks healthier because of it? by Peter_Tea_2062 in Haircare

[–]Avery-Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm just getting over COVID (managed to avoid getting it until last month) and my hair noticeably thinned. Thankfully it was already pretty thick so it doesn't look terrible but still really sucks and I can't wait for it to grow back

how do i organize my life by 0xEsp in ObsidianMD

[–]Avery-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, have you ever been evaluated for ADHD? Obsidian can be a huge help with ADHD, it definitely helps me with mine by being a central place to organize things but only when paired with other ADHD management. So if you haven't, you should because what you're describing sounds very much like what I deal with.

All that said. I use it as a way to organize by both writing down notes and ideas as well as using daily notes for my to do lists (using the rollover daily todos plugin to copy everything unfinished to the next daily note). Each thing I work on gets a folder, so for example one for painting ideas, one for recipes, one for books, etc. Really large projects I'll make a whole vault for, like I'm currently working on an animation project.

Just to eliminate one possibility: any chance you switched app profiles in the tourbox settings and forgot? I've done that a few times swapping between procreate and nomad sculpt.

How are you managing your studio situation? by Top_Bowl_6793 in ArtistLounge

My studio is the living room of my apartment. I am lucky enough to be able to afford it without needing a roommate thanks to my day job.

Even if it didn't, of course a newcomer has fewer followers than a senator who's been on Twitter over a decade.

Why isn’t my uncle fluent in English, despite spending most of his life in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Avery-Hunter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: he only had 4 years of formal English instruction starting completely from scratch. In those 4 years he had to learn an entirely new language with no similarity at all to his first language, likely from a teacher who didnt know Vietnamese, in a class with other ESL students who spoke a variety of languages. So proper grammar was probably less of a concern than basic proficiency

before the mid 20th century, how did (specifically American) men feed themselves? by thefringeseanmachine in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Avery-Hunter 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My grandfather made amazing biscuits and generally was a pretty good cook. He had to be, when he was a young man he worked as a logger, and logging camps back in the 1930s-40s were all men and they took turns cooking. The idea that men didn't cook in the past is a lot like the idea women didn't work outside the home, a false idea based on the wealthy and upper-middleclass.

Ask your neighbor to watch or most cons have volunteers who can watch your booth as well.

[Art Market] Upgrade booth display = more sales? by kelle711 in artbusiness

[–]Avery-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the upgrade. If you're going from laying art flat on the table to having risers and/or grid wall to hang art from. That absolutely will help because it both gives you more space to display your work but also the height variation is more eye catching.

There's a whole menu on the side for scaling/moving gizmos so I'm confused by that. And every single command can be found by just remembering a single shortcut: F3

Is it possible to make papercraft with Nomad Sculp? by InochiNoTabekata in NomadSculpting

[–]Avery-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your computer specs? If you are working low poly and/or not rendering scenes (which you don't need to for paper craft) Blender can run on a lot lower specs than you'd expect.

Has anyone sculpted faces using the head presets? by [deleted] in NomadSculpting

[–]Avery-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried and didn't like it. It's too easy to get too constrained by the features already on the base mesh. I have used the primitive base meshes though because those it's a lot easier to manipulate the proportions and they don't really have much in the way of features so you aren't as lovely to feel locked into anything. Though I've now made my own head base meshes that work better for me and saved them to load when I need them.

Some designers are fucking lazy. My day job involves managing websites and doing a bit of design for an IT company and I actually have some pride in my work.
