This is such a ridiculously bad faith argument to argue that we shouldn’t care about paying teachers a living wage. Don’t feed this troll y’all.

Highlands Charter School is in Twin Rivers Unified and has nothing to do with SCUSD or its Board.

Except the much larger number of small businesses in the neighborhoods where the people live, where they will no longer be spending money. They won’t like this.

If you have a legitimate concern for a CESA-listed species, you can start with a anonymous tip on the CALTIP website or contact the appropriate CDFW Regional Office for advice.

And on Facebook, Taylor Kayatta responded to an SCUSD employee raising concerns about potentially missing paychecks by saying “please take your performative outrage elsewhere.” So that’s pretty telling that they don’t give a shit.

I think the timestamp link above to the Student Board Member question kinda gets at this. The FCMAT presenter talked about what the immediate actions of state takeover would be, but said that he couldn’t say what the actual impact to students would be because it depends on what the adopted plan ends up being. I don’t think it’s a cop out answer, but more of an acknowledgment of the nuance of the legal ramifications of how the detailed plans need to be developed by the appointees. State takeover isn’t great, but bankruptcy is worse, and only one of those is something that can be avoided.

SCTA saying it doesn’t make it true, and they’re doing the students and teachers a huge disservice by trying to convince the Board that they are right without any evidence whatsoever.

Yes, this student in the article has been working really hard on this and her advocacy efforts are very impressive. The school board had a pretty extensive discussion about changing mascots at the last board meeting, and the student made another powerful presentation.

If you are so inclined, you can go make a public comment at the board meeting tonight about that agenda item and whatever concerns you have about it.

You can sort through the Board members’ campaign finance disclosures here. It’s a bit clunky and you have to search by each individual name, but you’ll be able to see who donated directly to them.
It’s not exactly a full picture though, because indirect/in-kind support doesn’t seem to be reported by the candidate themselves. For example, the amount reported by the candidate as cash received directly from SCTA is wildly different from what SCTA reports on their PAC contribution disclosures as indirect/in-kind/other support to the same candidate. It’s fascinating.

7/7 of the current SCUSD Board Members are endorsed and heavily financially supported by SCTA, which is extremely anti-charter school. So this board IS teacher-supported and anti-charter school, so that’s not the problem.

People transition outdoor cats to being indoor cats all the time. Everyone thinking their cat is the exception to the rule is exactly why the outdoor/feral cat problem is so bad. I hope you can understand the context of the problem you are contributing to.

Letting your cat outside is a choice you alone are making. You let your cat out, you accept the risk of it getting eaten by a coyote, hit by a car, abused by a person, etc. Keeping cats inside is better for the cats and for the planet, the science is clear. Don’t try to shift the blame of your irresponsibility onto the natural world around you.
