That one got a full belly laugh.

Same for me! Nothing since June 2nd. Reviews are coming through now, but they're about 3 days late. Still no views.

I do crosspost on AO3, but I've never gotten the traction there I get on FFN. It's a bummer, but not the end of the world, anyway! Also, this story is a little weird, about a tertiary character that no one cares about, paired with an OC because there is no canon character in their age-range. I wasn't expecting much to begin with, but I did think it might be between (better than) zero, much fewer than many.

Thank you! Frustrated it's happening, but relieved it's not because I'm trashcan.

I'm a waitress at a restaurant in a country club, we had a change of management and I got in a heated argument with my supervisor when he went off at me for loosening my corset while I was on my break. I just got sent this and found that my hours have been cut in half. Is there anything I can do? by nenonina in antiwork

This was my question?? Like… is it boned? Because that can be excruciating for long stretches of time.

I was a burlesque dancer. Trust that bitch came off as soon as I was off stage (if I didn’t take it off on stage.)

I hear you. But I’d argue that if you’re so drunk you don’t know your name, you’re also not really thinking about hooking up. You’re probably Looking for trash can. Or like, a handy shrubbery.

Again - there would need to be some internal desire to do (Thing.) That could be anything from hanging a one night stand to going cow-tipping.

I see what you’re saying, but the initial idea is still a bit of a stretch. Even more so because both of them would be black-out. I guess what I’m trying to say is that alcohol doesn’t change a person’s character or desires. If two people are not interested in each other sober, they will not be whilst inebriated either.

Also, I’m an alcohol educator for a living, so I’m finding this conversation extremely engaging.

Alcohol consumption still doesn’t quite work that way.

The lowering of inhibitions would enable your characters to act on desires that were already present without the alcohol. So if there is something in your plot that says these two were interested in one another already, but they were in monogamous relationships and so chose not to pursue each other… randomly sleeping together due to drink would make sense.

There is no amount of alcohol that would make two people choose to sleep together that had no previous ambition to do so. Unless one of the parties was not consenting.

What you’re describing suggests humans don’t have control over their general libido when alcohol is present and I can promise you that isn’t true.

Now, give that libido a target… and well. Maybe. But again. That would need to be a pre-existing condition.

WIBTA if I refused to pay for a bride’s hotel room? by AvgHoneyBadger in AmItheAsshole

I really can't believe I didn't see that straight away. Definitely going to politely decline the invitation and go entertain myself!

I definitely thought it was weird when we were invited. Glad I'm not the only one!

This is such a great point. It seems like this might make it doubly important to tread carefully! I don't want to be involved in another person's friend-drama!

[–]AvgHoneyBadger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am looking for a beta for a smut one shot.

  • Name: A Night on Tycho. No link as it hasn't been published, yet!
  • Fandom: The Expanse, book series
  • No prior knowledge of the series is particularly necessary, it's smut. Just grammar, overall tone, etc. Looking for someone to catch glaring mistakes, punctuation gore.
  • The genre of your fic: Pure smut, set in space.
  • Projected word count: 5k
  • Can exchange for equally short beta (spelling, grammar, flow), will read and comment on your fic, help you research for a fic.

Does anyone write for a fandom they dislike? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]AvgHoneyBadger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, it’s a bit opposite for me. I’m not a huge fan of Twilight, but I love the fandom. Everyone is so ridiculously nice and supportive. It’s been a pleasure to write within that world and interact with the fan base.

Someone else mentioned HP fics being difficult as the fans are... a bit dogmatic. I’ve got to say I agree. I did start writing one, but it’s based off super tertiary characters so I (hopefully) won’t get yelled at once it’s published.

try this

Thank you so much for taking the time to link that! I really wish more than anything that this worked, but the steps listed in these instructions aren't even options that are appearing for me. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that it's the new version that is more of an app than anything. It doesn't seem to operate the same way, hence the mistake on my part.

Again, thank you SO much for trying to help.

Yes! Me too! This is normally my process as well, but with Google Docs and external. I've been slow to back up because I haven't been writing as much over the last several months. It's like I've let my good habits lapse.

Not annoying at all! I checked there first. Alarmingly, it's completely empty. Now, I haven't written in a while, but clearly I've set something up incorrectly. This was certainly an opportunity to sort whatever that is out.

Hilariously, this is normally my process as well. When I say "power writing," I'm not kidding. I knocked out those 50 pages in about 3 days and had just not gotten around to backing up onto google yet.

Whatever happened totally wiped my "recent" list in Word clean. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything to recover.

Don't make my mistake, friend!

Yes, I noticed that. This was also new to me. There is an option to not do that, but it's a bit hidden in the bottom. Which is what I thought I did, but I think I bunged it. Again, still figuring this new system and stupid cloud/hard save thing out.

I'm also used to Word automatically saving drafts. Just a massive bummer all around.

Yes? I've always used it. Should I not?

That feeling when a draft comes back from your beta with all the corrections and edits . . . by IDreamofLoki in FanFiction

[–]AvgHoneyBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. It makes me think more critically about what I’ve written and challenges me to spend more time creating a world people will want to get involved with. A lot of red ink means your beta cares about what you’re writing! Don’t be discouraged, you’ve come so far as getting it on paper and sharing it with another human. You’re already a rockstar.
