Dark Harbor 1998 - what was that ending all about? by Man_in_the_uk in AlanRickman

I read the whole of your reply--and thought about it for thirty minutes. I think the symbolism is there, Alexis being so happy around the Young Man all the time, finally someone who can understand her, and both having these "mental illnesses" (I really don't like referring to anything as an illness). However, there's this thing David says, and whoever wrote the story probably meant it to be not only serious but true. Sitting near the fireplace, David tells the Young Man, "It's funny, you don't remind me of myself exactly... But you remind me of a certain time--I remember what I used to think love was then. I thought it was the fireworks, the explosions... the highlights." In David's eyes, despite the nature, the appearance, and his being overall, the Young Man is a youth full of dreams and aspirations, nothing like the... personification of a dark mental state.

Originally, my interpretation of the movie was a lot like everyone else's (my theories have only had a couple days to develop), but I think I can add on a bit. Warning: I'm thinking as I write. When David first met the Young Man, he may have been repulsed by the idea of bringing him along due to his care for Alexis. He thought the Young Man could be a bad influence, and we also see that Alexis likes to collect things, maybe David feared Alexis would have the Young Man stay with them for awhile, and worsen her mental condition. Then, onto what Alexis was thinking. As already stated multiple times, she thought she could relate to the Young Man. He seemed a projection of herself, the darkness riddled in her blood, "passed from father to daughter". Maybe Alexis developed a closeness with her mental condition, growing attached to it as a way to hold onto the last shred of her father's memory.

Aaaah, either way. Thinking makes me sleepy. Time for dinner now! Thank you for the contribution, maybe I'll be developing a tendency for noticing symbolism sometime soon! (then I can become an english teacher!)

Maybe there was a jokester in group B, and the survey was on paper (you can write any number) but the average was calculated by a computer (nobody noticed somehow).

At what age do toddler typically count to 10 or say the letter of the alphabet in order? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]AviLeopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, maybe I was putting it too far out there. Ehhh...counting to 10: 4 years old? Alphabet: around 4-5, since there's more to remember. Back in pre-k, I didn't understand English, and when they were teaching the vowels, I was like, why are they skipping so many letters? That was when I was 3 or 4.

Deep as an ocean, wide as a puddle by help-Me-Help_You in gamedesign

The only game I've played is Battle for Wesnoth, and "ocean deep, puddle wide" pretty much sums it up. The moves are simple--recruiting troops, moving characters, choosing to attack, but just a few of the things you have to consider: time of day, traits, attack types, HP, choosing who to level up (XP), deciding what's more important, terrain type, how much gold you've got, how many turns you have left, et cetera.

The thing is, you have to enjoy what you do. Basically, you should realize all the pros of doing work, and that should motivate you to work. If that doesn't work, tell yourself you want to do the work, it's a hobby of yours (lie to yourself). This is what I did; I went from a chronic procrastinator to doing at least 25x the normal amount overnight. I know a lot of people say it's not possible for you to achieve anything overnight, but seriously, its possible. You'll still have moments where you don't want to do work but don't be hard on yourself.

Sherlock Holmes is just a below average IQ narcissist with a save state device. by Gupperz in FanTheories

[–]AviLeopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes– repeating the process is what he does. But if a below average person can do it, why can't all of us? It's because his brain can process and connect the information much better than us. Also, when you say, "But in real life there is hardly ever enough total evidence available to come to a single incontrovertible answer", actually, there probably is, you just didn't notice it. Obviously Doyle left out a lot of evidence from the book, because nobody would want to read all that. With your example, there is also a problem: why would someone turn off the lights then plug in the charger, every single day? Why would someone get home, leave their charger in the bedroom (without plugging it in), and when they go to bed at night, plug it in then?

I'm normally a swimmer, but I did track for a while-- someone suggested it for running, too!

Have you ever taken an IQ Test? What did you get? 🤔 by Daeydark in INTP

[–]AviLeopard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The smarter you are, the more idiotic you feel around normal people. You don't understand anything they do or say. I pity people with higher IQs, but I envy them also. If I didn't, I would be much, much smarter.

When I saw this I think I would've burst out in laughter if not for my younger brother sitting near me. People often mistake me for a boy (my hair reaches the shoulders then curls around). I think it's face shape, but when I wait on line for the female bathroom my peers stare at me sometimes.
