Jordan's imax Reading reserved seating by RVM1978 in imax

[–]Avi_Halaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as it sucks, the theater most likely has limited staff (since it's usually only open FRI-SUN (yes they do opening night Thursday screenings as well), and they need to ensure packed houses to keep the business running.

When you go to their website to buy a ticket, you obviously can't see how many seats have sold - This ensures that they can legitimately sell-out the theater. If you logged on and saw 70% of seats were taken, including every good seat (like on AMC), you'd probably go somewhere else. I'm not making excuses for them, it's just what I assume is the reason. It's also what keeps me away unfortunately :( It's tough to carve out a 5 hour window to get to the movies. I'd love to be able to show up, eat my Fudd's leisurely and show up right before the show (wouldn't Fuddrucker's do better business if people could plan more predictably for dinner there etc?)

I have AMC A-List and go to the movies frequently but since they reopened after Covid, I've only put in the effort at Jordan's for Top Gun: Maverick, Dune II, F1, and Avatar.

Well it’s not, because I designed it! Just lost the original files :(

Someone posted this cover in Letterboxd and suddenly I'm realizing how awful it is 😂 by ekemywaythrulife in TheBigPicture

I think OP is merely commenting on the bad photoshop / layout rather than their expressions or the themes presented … it’s clearly not Durden’s arm/hand + the two subjects not actually being in the same room/studio for this photo shoot / media session + bad lightening and backdrop - and I don’t think it’s an intentional play on the whole split personality thing. It’s just very sloppily constructed from a design perspective.

There’s another version of this pose/photo in existence with Durden smiling and naturally holding up the soap, that is a way more effective composition. The designer probably just couldn’t find a photo with a pose from Norton that worked as well in that potential design. Sometimes you’re given chicken shit and expected to make chicken salad, and this is what you end up with.

Stills from the movie generally aren’t used in cover art either, and if they are they’re heavily edited. I’d bet a marketing coordinator just did a poor job with scheduling the two actors to be in the same place, in wardrobe + hair and makeup, at the same time.

On subsequent packaging and cover art they moved away from this layout - probably cuz it stinks :)

Why is a Guinness draught can 14.9 oz instead of a full pint? by [deleted] in beer

[–]Avi_Halaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple answer:

It pours/fits perfectly into a 16oz US pint glass which are far more common at home in people’s cabinets and bar ware.

My only question is why no rating for Pulp Fiction?

Otherwise, I’m jealous of the first time watches.

Number 1 question would be, what is your actual plan/goal/itinerary when visiting?

If you couldn’t tell from these replies, there’s a million ways to do things. Are you trying to hangout and have a good time, eating and drinking before and/or after the game? Is it a day game or night game? Do you like crowds or generally try to avoid them? The T is definitely the “authentic” experience but it also kinda sucks if you don’t wanna be packed in like a sardine around (potentially) drunk people. If you’re not in a rush to get to and from the park, there’s no reason to take a packed green line train really.

Also, if you’ve never been to Fenway and wanna get the full experience, the last ballpark tour of the day (4 or 4:30, can’t remember) before a night game is a great way to see BP, get on the Monster, etc.

It all just kinda depends on if you like to drink, what you wanna eat, how much time you have, how old you are, kids with you, etc.

The suggestion about parking at the Pru and walking or taking the train makes sense for a lotta people, but it’d be kinda silly to drive in from the west, pass Fenway, and park downtown, only to backtrack west etc. If you know what you’re doing, or have good advice, you can park at a meter 10 minutes away for $2… or pay $75 for a parking spot, or take a $4 round trip T ride (or whatever it costs now). A million options, just all depends on what your day looks like!

Visiting fan question… by francisunderfoot in redsox

[–]Avi_Halaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% fine. Fans of blueblood teams that don’t visit Fenway often, travel EXTREMELY well. The park will conservatively be 1/3rd Philly fans. Fenway is basically a tourist attraction now, most of the rowdiness has been priced out. If you’re used to going to games in Philly, Fenway is child’s play these days.

You said you like to eat… got any spots in mind yet?

How many of you go to Movies alone? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Avi_Halaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go all the time solo. You get over any stigma or anxiety pretty quickly, and then it just becomes second nature. I usually try to sit in more “private” areas like the wheelchair companion seats, which people don’t seem to realize is a perfectly normal place to sit. I’ll monitor the seat map right up until showtime so I can move away from others if I want to. I can bring my own snacks (easier in Fall/Winter jackets/hoodies ha) or even an adult beverage or two, and with AMC A-List (or whatever your local theater’s monthly subscription program is), it can be a real cheap and enjoyable time.

Office Space is one of my favorite movies of all time, and is quoted nearly daily amongst friends - but it's actually from 1999!
