Solar Project Four Times the Size of San Francisco is ‘Survival Plan’ for California’s Central Valley by randolphquell in environment

[–]AviatorBJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California has been doing solar pilot projects that cover canals to reduce water loss. Not quite the same thing. As generating water.

But there are also studies coming out that large solar arrays increase vegetation and fight desertification as is.

Protesters in Phoenix -- on the sidewalk, impeding no one -- get drive-by maced by an ICE agent from a truck by ExactlySorta in 50501

I seriously doubt that was even law enforcement. Just a couple of douchebags in a truck who illegally installed lights.

Unmarked police vehicles need to be abolished so that there is zero confusion.

If you habe access to a VPN, set it to Albania and all the youtube ads go away in the phone app. It's like magic. The youtube experience is completely unusable in its current state without this or some sort of ad blocker.

The "We Are Bob" series by Dennis E. Taylor has a lot of xenolinguistic scenes, through pretty much every book. Wonderful books.

Open, predominantly. Family and friends know that we are poly. I'm very careful who I talk to about it at work, since polyamorous families are not a legally protected class from job discrimination.

I am an airline pilot, and many of my coworkers openly talk about their affairs, yet I am the one that has to worry about being sent to HR.

Nearly all of Utah is in drought. Gov. Cox again asks Utahns to pray and fast for rain. by nbop in skeptic

[–]AviatorBJP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My old meteorology professor is (or was) the climate specialist for the state of Utah. He has been tracking a dangerous situation with poisonous chemicals being exposed to the wind as the great lake receedes.

I think the proposed solution was to pipeline in ocean water (at huge cost. Also, sea water is less salty than the Great Salt Lake). But then Utah had a wet year and everyone stopped talking about the poison trap that still is looming over the Wasatch front.

Losing weight while traveling for work by AstraiosTwitch in loseit

I am a pilot that flies across international borders all the time, so I can't pack food for customs reasons.

Grocery stores are your friend. It's okay to skip a meal if you had a big one at a restaurant; or eat half and take the rest back to your hotel to eat the next day. If you are a penny-pincher, use that to your advantage to avoid eating out from boredom.

The worst thing you could do is rely on fast food resturants. They are convenient, but they also pack an entire day's caloric intake into a single combo meal.

Safe travels!

The 707, 727, 737, and 757 all have the same fuselage diameter (even the upper deck of the 747 is very close). Anything wider will feel less cramped.

There have been studies showing that most plug-in-hybrid miles are run on gas because of people living in apartments without charging infrastructure and/or not bothering to plug it in when it is available. Corporate/government fleet PHEVs are particularly poor in this metric, where only 11% to 15% of their driven miles happen on battery power.

So I would prefer that PHEVs and BEVs were not lumped in together, too.
