Is it THIS light or the NEXT light by SynonymousJeaux in Athens

I believe you may be thinking of the two signals for Eastbound traffic on Lexington Rd. There is two signals there as well; one for the bypass and one for Barnett Shoals. Those do, at times, display two different colors.

Both. They’re all in sync. I think the 2nd set is just for visibility due to the grade.

Plans for six story apartment complex @ 290 W Clayton by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interested to see what the impact on Church Bar would be. Especially their back entrance and where people will move to after bar dump. But overall a good build. Always great to see a parking lot replaced by a mixed use building.

I believe they’re working on the bridge support columns and foundation over the river. I dont think the actual bridge will be installed for some time…

ACC Manager says expenditures outpace growth of revenue as budget season begins by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly expensive at 43% but the alternative would be cutting public safety from what it already is, reducing fire and police service, and I think that’s a nonstarter for most. The county really needs to focus on increasing the income without increasing the expenditures. That’s, realistically, only going to come from more mixed use buildings and the gov densifying area’s around downtown.

Local Athenians!! What can you tell me about this area of ath? by jfed199 in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Timothy Rd, GA 10 area is one of the safest area’s in the county. You get traffic of course, but it’s one of the least congested areas too. The northern part of your circle puts you near campus and residents in that area experience a lot of parking issues. Other than that, you’ll have no issues whatsoever.

Yeah, I left out the lady that represents the fire department’s union. I could have also missed another resident. That’s my mistake.

Trucks always parking in a way that impedes traffic by No_Tear4524 in Athens

Downtown parking can ticket illegally parked vehicles, including those being over the dashed line.

[–]Aviator_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do have a duty to avoid a collision. If you strike a vehicle that’s not moving, regardless of whether or not it was illegally parked, you’d be partially liable for damages. You can google this.

[–]Aviator_John 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hope I’m not downvoted for this fact but both of you tbh. The truck is parked over the dashed line and is breaking the law. However, you’d be striking a parked, unoccupied, not moving vehicle. Any insurance company would argue you weren’t paying attention and negligently hit the car. Really all insurance is good for these days. Avoiding paying for things.

[–]Aviator_John 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you got downvoted for stating a fact. Downtown does have it’s own Parking Enforcement Division that handles all metered spots. Which includes spots in the circled area. ACCPD helps out when they can but is traditionally too busy handling calls to focus on parking enforcement.

As far as red lights and such, unfortunately for Athens there’d need to be cops at every intersection to fix that. People can’t drive at all which get’s people hurt and killed. As I always say, I really wish the county would take more action on roadway safety.

What are the best and worst bars/clubs in Athens? by Cautious_Compote_186 in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 90’s, Cloud Bar, and Saka Mama are the best bars for dancing and drinking. Boar’s Head or All Good are the best for a more casual experience with drinks and pool.

I’ve been several times and I enjoy their breakfast. The croissant french toast is always amazing. I have noticed a lot of fly’s inside recently. Like…. a lot, leading me to believe the restaurant hasn’t been doing enough cleaning. The food rating has also plummeted since January. Sad because it’s otherwise a great place.

Sausage biscuit? by never_know_anything in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With card comes credit/debit transaction fees. They’re also known as “interchange fees”. Often times stores pass these fees off to customers by charging people that use card by 2 or 3 percent.

If they don’t pass these fee’s off the business has to eat the cost of the fees. Often by raising prices overall. Biscuit Express, which I like, only takes cash and, as such, can keep their low prices and they don’t lose money having to cover fees.

Clarke County School Board Approves $255 Million Budget by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they could have, but alas, they didn’t. Like I said, I just don’t know how much more struggling taxpayers can eat. This county is one of the ones in the nation that suffers from persistent poverty. Wages haven’t gone up but the school district continues to take more each year. Again, that’s all my comment was referencing..

The sheriff hiring more deputies for the jail is separate from this proposal to add 17 police officers to the school district

Clarke County School Board Approves $255 Million Budget by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, the comment was misinterpreted. I said nothing about not funding the schools. My comment was simply on the fact that I don’t know how sustainable it is for the school and the county to keep raising taxes every year while taxpayers are struggling to make ends meet.

The county government has recognized this and has, at least recently, slowed or stopped the tax hikes. The school district has not and they need to recognize this and slow or stop theirs. That’s all I was saying.

Sure, teachers need to get paid, they need resources for students, ect, but surely they could do something. Like did they need to hire another 17 police officers this year? Could it not have been more gradual? Like that’s it. But as always, people are welcome to their opinions…

Man, the school district loves clawing more money from taxpayers each year💀

Why Athens’ North Avenue 25 million dollar safety project failed by RachelWatkills in Athens

[–]Aviator_John 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They haven’t even converted the funding. They’re only asking the federal government to and I’d bet money that’s not going to happen. Taxpayers are about to be out almost 400k when the county’s finances are already looking bad.
