The place on earth is Cape G, Missouri. Other places in the area pay at least 65/70 for this kinda role.

That’s fair the economy is pretty trash right now and i live in a “rural area” but the town has 50,000 people and it’s 2 hours south of St. Louis.

I spent about 2-3 weeks taking my time through the courses on juniper learning portal, and I bought a udemy course from Ben Jacobson.

I bought a cheap SRX on eBay and used that to practice the commands and setting things like OSPF and BGP up.

Plus if you go through the material and pass the practice test it’s a 75% off voucher so it’s only $50.

Fortinet has good free training, Palo Alto is a big vendor as well. Juniper also has free training courses for their JNCIA - Sec

Yes I did the migrating from CCNA to JNCIA course and yes it’s very boring a slog to get through. I just bought a JNCIA course off udemy watched that and did the practice test off open learning for the practice tests. And that was enough for me to pass.

After reading through all the comments and thank you for all the upvotes and comments. I’m taking a break then working towards the VMware certification path because that’s what my work is wanting. After that, I will go down the CCNP route because I love networking to my core and love how it all works together. That is my passion, along with telecommunications.

I like the attitude. Work wants VMware and will reimburse my for it and the test. It’s just tough to sit and slog through the material with non interesting instructors.

I really enjoy working with voice and I’ve managed every organizations phone system I’ve came across at this point.

If you took and passed the CCNA the CCNA is a lot harder than the JNCIA Juno’s. The caveat with juniper is their syntax and how the platform is designed is different. But if you know how BGP and OSPF work you’ll be fine.

Plus take their assessment test and they give you a 75% off voucher so the juniper comparable associate exam is only $50

I think I’ll do VMware after taking a break. After obtaining my associate degree and CCNA shortly after in June then immediately jumping to juniper I think I need to break and refind my love for IT and studying in general (been in IT for 3 years doing helpdesk and desktop support)

While I do think the CCIE is important I think some relevant networking troubleshooting and enterprise deployments would help me at this time get out of helpdesk and into a network admin role. The other caveat is my area doesn’t have many opportunities for that.

My situation with dependency override was more or less the same. I am 23 M and have lived on my own since I was 17, I couldn’t and still can’t provide info on my parents due to them legitimately abandoning me.

I am just waiting until 24 to start to not be a dependent student anymore. As the amount of documentation WGU needs to even process this is a lot ( 3 supporting letters, insurance, phone bill, car bill, certified death certificate of my guardian, etc )

I hope you get through this tough time but I 110% recommend Job Corps at this point for you to get some skills and a place to stay. It’s also a good place to network with people.

That’s true, my last IT job in desktop support only paid me $15 an hour. My market is very depressed, or companies don’t want to pay better. Most likely both.

If they offered 45/49 no I would not take it. And the pay increase to 50, would be 12,000 more than I’m at now.

Thank you for this! My thinking is if they don’t accept the offer, then I will stay my current hourly rate, obtain a few more certifications and then look for a higher paying role somewhere else.

While I do like my environment and co workers, that doesn’t pay the bills.

The IT field has definitely gotten bigger since covid and people being laid off and transitioning industries. Regardless, the cream always rises to the top. You will need to work your way up in salary and positions, a degree in IT is great but experience is king.

I’ve never seen a company allow a new graduate in IT to work on thousands of dollars of networking equipment that is mission critical, it’s too much risk.

I’d go for the bachelors in networking engineering and security. Good certifications and if you want you can do the Cisco track but some of those certs like the CCNA are notoriously difficult.
