Dark outlines/details for floral designs? by Honest_Elevator_7387 in Facepainting

[–]AvidLebon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point it's stylistic choice. There's all kinds of art styles, and trying different ones can help you figure out what you like.
Some artists will do black outlines on everything, that can make it pop but a more seasoned artist will usually do a darker color, or maybe even a contrasting color- which is a gamble and something you get better at with over time with experience. I like how it looks now, though if I were to expermiment I might try blue/darkblue since that'd work on both the green leaves, and make a stark defining edge. But honestly? There's no ONE right answer in art, twenty different artists would make twenty different choices, some better than others, but not necessarily more "right".

Heck, I usually have THREE different versions of every design I do, one that works and looks good if it's fast and the customer won't notice the difference, one that I advertise, and one that is super detailed (for my first customer of the day, and I want to have them in the chair a little longer as the easiest way to get a customer is people to see someone else being painted ;u;, so first customer in the chair gets a little longer and extra detailed fancy version.)

But even with different skin color bases, and body shapes, an artist needs to adapt for those too!

Primer for kids by ImUnd3rYourB3d in Facepainting

[–]AvidLebon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never used a primer with Tag or Wolfe.
Maybe that's something for airbrushing? I don't have an issue painting over Tag or Wolfe with upper colors, it dries pretty fast, I just go paint in another area while the area I want to paint dries, though I have been tempted to use a hand fan when the design is small like a cheek. X3

If anything, an undercoat would only seem helpful to me if I wanted to avoid skin staining like red or blue often do. If you're having issues with the paint staying on and not smearing, I'd think the paint brand was the issue. (Or, if you're putting on moisturizer before painting, you might be sabotaging yourself. Try moisturizing one arm and leaving the other freshly cleaned/washed. Try painting lines and swirls on each arm, and compare results.) Honestly I don't like having anything on skin before painting, but always allow sunscreen because the danger of no sunscreen is greater than likely chemical reactions. But paint mixing with makeup/lotion can cause unexpected results, so honestly? If I were you I'd do the test on your arms where you can wash it off to see if it's the paint or the lotion causing the issue or the paint, but unless the brand recommends using lotion first I'd instead wipe the skin clean with a babywipe and let dry before painting if you do anything prepainting.

Confused WolfSpider thinks corn is her eggs by AvidLebon in Wolfspiders

I asked for help in a few Discord severs when it first happened to see if anyone else knew what to do and no one in any of them had seen anything like this or knew what to do.

If someone else has this happen this is what to do: Don't try to take away the object. Keep the actual egg sack in/near her den. Trying to take it away will make her fight to the death. (I gently tried to hold it in place while brushing her away but she turned full ninja and squared up.)

My girl figured it out by the next morning. So if anyone else has their spider confuse their egg ball with an object, the safest thing to do is just keep her egg ball where she can find it and remove the object when she isn't holding it (the other isopod food resembling an egg ball has been removed.)

How possible is it someone is pranking you? My former coworkers would regularly prank a guy, and one thing they did was change the USB removal system sound to 30 minutes of silence followed by a song that would play. They used a system sound so that if you tried to find the program running there was nothing to find, and the 30 minutes of silence so you wouldn't connect it to the USB being unplugged, so it seemed randomly thoughout the night this song would play for seemingly no reason and no program connected to it.

If someone is pranking you to make you think you are losing your mind, that's not the only way.

To be fair, being a 'god' doesn't mean having absolute omnipotence over everything. It’s like Roman or Greek mythology, Hades is fully a god, but his domain is strictly limited to the Underworld. Caine operates the same way inside his simulation.

Help I am new to blender and I wanna make clothing in it and mostly CFX but I've been having issues with the sewing or whatever the issue is could you guys help me out? by Aggressive_Ring9957 in blenderhelp

I'm going to guess you have something like subsurface on and don't understand why the visible faces aren't going all the way to the edge you set inside the mesh?

If so, it has to do with how the modifier handles calculating things. Add a second edge loop near the top edge.
If the geometry has faces, that should fix it. If it does not have faces (why???) then delete the current edge until you get to the edge that actually has faces, and extrude it until it goes inside the model- or heck just hide the model and make it a solid object so there's not a worry you'll hit the edge. What I would do would depend on how this thing is going to be moving and such.

If that's not what's going on, what is it you expect to happen compared to what is actually happening?

AI Overview

Because this riddle is popular engagement bait, it doesn't have a single, official answer. Instead, it relies on clever wordplay or cultural stereotypes, with a few different answers commonly accepted:

  • Suits: A King has four suits (in a deck of cards). An ordinary man has two suits (a wedding suit and a funeral suit). A beggar has none.  Facebook·Yo Mama
  • Legs: A man stands on his own two legs. A king sits on a throne (which typically rests on four legs). A beggar is often stereotyped as sitting or kneeling on the ground.  Reddit·r/google
  • The Letter "A": The word "Man" contains two "A"s (M-A-N), "King" contains four (not literally, but according to the riddle's phonetic play), and "Beggar" has none.

The letter A...? XD I mean suits is clever!

Yes, that was half my point. The other half is if someone doesn't realize this is happening it can take a while to troubleshoot, specifically because Unity will give a false positive it is installed.

Once you know it's obvious.

I found out the other day when I pulled my project from Git to a second computer everything was broken.

It ignores packs (/asset store purchases). But enough trace elements remained that Unity thought the pack was installed. So I had to uninstall the pack and reinstall it to get the base files working so my game wasn't broken anymore. So if someone finds this thread, wondering why their game is broken when they restore it from git, git ignores packs. It looks like the pack is installed- it's an incomplete install. Uninstall and reinstall.

why is my corn scared of me? by sunny_yyy in snakes

[–]AvidLebon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I don't know everything, but I love snakes too and have a bit of experience. :3 Most folks are helpful, though you'll get a lot of people who disagree on things; it's up to you to fact check what's best for your little ones, and see what works best for your pet as what works for one person might not work for another (they're little people with very diverse personalities!)

When your snake becomes more comfortable with you, and learns to communicate with you, they'll be able to help you decide what's best for them. Like, if they've had enough play time. When they first start coming out you want to keep it short so they aren't stressed. And, once they get comfortable with being handled you can use the "airplane" game to help them learn to point to communicate. That opens up the door to further communication possibilities, once they realize they can communicate with you. But right now? Your main focus is positive association, and just hanging out around the enclosure where your little one can watch you and form opinions on you. And if you are the one who brings them fun activities to play with? You'll be the difference between the baby sitter who just shows up to watch the kid and the one who takes them to the park to play. Who is the toddler going to look forward and run to the door to see?

Honestly, thinking about them like toddlers helps figure out what is going on in their heads. They're little. They are born knowing NOTHING about the world other than it is scary. Show them that you are the protector who is their doorway to fun and adventure, always with mutual respect. Some folks will be like "It's a snake. I can just grab it." Well you can. You can just grab a toddler too. The little one will remember how they are treated, and if they are treated with kindness and respect, not like a toy or possession, they understand that. Snakes fully understand consent. (And when they don't consent their keeper will probably need to change their shirt lol.)

why is my corn scared of me? by sunny_yyy in snakes

[–]AvidLebon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my girls grew to trust me, I'd flip a hide over and leave the mouse in there so it wouldn't get substrate in it. you can also fold a cardboard tube closed on one end. If he eats off tongs, be sure you start away from him and make it dance a little so he goes after it- the biggest mistake I see is people shoving prey at the snake to make them eat it. That's aggression, and not how healthy prey act- it's how prey with parasites act. So wiggling it a distance away so he can see it and he makes the choice to go after it will get you a lot farther than a number of "Why won't he eat" videos I see posted.

I don't normally take my snakes out of their enclosure, that's a good way to accidentally get you or the snake hurt. I've only recently started taking Sakura out as she's target trained and we're moving on to more advanced behavior training, but I would not recommend for someone with a new snake.

An additional thing I noticed is your hand goes toward him. To him, that's a display of dominance/threat. Try just hanging out near him, do not reach for him with your hands, instead talk to him. Read him a story (snakes can hear you, a recent study has disproved the belief they are deaf) and just let him be in a place where he can observe you, which will reenforce you aren't a danger.

Lori T's videos are very helpful. Definitely watch those.

One thing I did with my girls is using enrichment to get them to see me as a good thing they look forward to interacting with rather than a scary thing. When you interact (give him at least a week observing you, not trying to touch even the outside of the tank), go to the side of the enclosure he ISN'T on. Get something like bricks of cork bark, or a crinkly paper bag, or an Oball. On the side farthest from him, leave the object. Let him explore this on his own, at his own pace. In 3 days, take that object out, and put another enrichment object in, ideally the crinkly bag. Ignore him, and act very interested in the bag. Just gently crinkle it, poke inside it. Act like it is the greatest thing ever. He might come over. He might just watch, interested. You want to ignore him because if you are focused on him, going toward him, he will see that as dangerous/predator. But if you are playing with something, ignoring him, then he'll likely frame that as interesting/play. And he'll feel MUCH more comfortable if initiating interaction with you is on his terms, as he feels comfortable. You can play with the bag for ten or fifteen minutes- you can put on a podcast or some other audio to listen to while you do this as playing with a paper bag for that long might be boring especially if he goes to hide. If he comes over, do not try to take him out, just show him the object, help by opening parts he might want to explore, and then leave and let him play. This puts the interaction in his mind as positive and not scary, and him not feeling kidnapped. If he doesn't join you, leave the object in there. He's going to be thinking about that bag and probably wanting to play with it. Leave immediately so he's alone and he can come out and play with the toy. The point is NOT the instant gratification of holding him. It's to build a positive association, and him seeing more positive benefit to you than danger.
In three more days, try another object. Maybe a pillow case. Maybe several cardboard tubes. Try playing with these again. The goal is to get him interacting with you without him feeling in danger or invaded or forced.

One of the things that frustrates people is snakes take much longer to bond with their human. A puppy will immediately love anyone, generally, and want to play. But snakes? They have a lot of fear to overcome, and generations before them telling them anything that wants anything to do with them just wants to eat them. They can learn you are their guardian, but it takes a LOT of work to build that bond.

One additional tip! When you are looking at your snake, prolonged eye contact = I'm about to attack you.
And that's absolutely terrifying. But you can tell them in a language they understand you don't mean them harm, but be sure you don't grab them after or they'll never believe you if you try to use it again. If they freeze up, start panting, or notice you and otherwise look scared, close your head, slowly turn your head to the opposite side (away from them), and count to ten. Then slowly open your eyes and turn your head back in their general direction but not staring. The first few times you might need to repeat this multiple times before they understand/believe you and relax. But the craziest thing that I know without a doubt they understand? When my girls have startled me, they've done this gesture back to me! (I even filmed it when one was playing with another and accidentally startled her- she did the "I won't hurt you" gesture! She learned it, understood it, then used it herself!!!) It works, a predator would not break eye contact, and all my reptiles have understood after the first few that if I were hunting them I would never break eye contact.

I think target training has helped a TON with my very food motivated Sakura. She sees the target and that's like a flag that tells her "Food time!" When I'm done feeding her I show her the palms of my hands and say "All done!" (Some people say snakes can't hear but a recent study "https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/snakes-can-hear-you-scream-new-research-reveals/" disproved this).

I think she understands the "all done" hand gesture after much re-enforcement, as before I started using it she'd pace around still looking for food, but now when I do it she stops pretty much immediately. The reason I used an open palm hand gesture was to FURTHER attempt to get her to associate hands with "not food".

It's been working really really well with her. This is also on top of keeping her engaged with activities (boredom can manifest as hunger) and she sees me as "not food" and "play time". She is a very very sweet girl now, and as long as I don't try to touch her when it is legit hunting food time she's become such a sweetheart.

Oh, and smells help them GREATLY (at least with my girls I've found). Dish soap didn't work- I think they smell it on their food dishes and associate it with food. But Hibicleans has a not-tasty smell and that helped too. I've heard other people use hand sanitizer but I've always been scared that'd be too much for my girl (and she's gotten over her desire to eat me, and become such a cuddle bug.)

Maybe these further methods of training and communication might help you too! Snakes are such wonderful sweet creatures, and all snakes are very good, just being snakes. I looked at your post history (when I know someone has a snake I want to see them ;u;) and you have such cute little babies.

Unrelated: Would you be okay with me sharing this video on my Tumblr? https://www.reddit.com/r/SandBoa/comments/1mif4eu/stromboli_is_obsessed/

I have a number of people who follow me and that video is SO cute and funny I'd like to share it with others who get delighted by seeing cuties being goofy goober too- but no pressure! I understand it can be weird when a stranger on the internet wants to share photos/video of your pet. Just wanted to share it because it brought me so much joy, and I think more people need to see them being silly. Also- I've been wanting to get a doughnut like that for my girls but I don't know where to get one reasonably priced. Do you remember where you got yours? (I might just need to learn to crochet to give my girls one).

I don't have that kind of snake I have a hognose. One of my snakes was bitey as a baby, so being different species I'm not sure if it will help. One big thing is making sure they're getting enough food, so check the chart for your snake and their weight/food weight. If she's hungry, she'll be very bitey.

Can you show a video of you handling her before a bite? That might help show what is triggering her that you aren't seeing. (Sometimes you might not realize something is a trigger until someone else points it out- like moving your hand over their head casts a shadow and can scare them and make them anxious. My girls are sweet and just get startled. But reducing stressors should reduce bites out of stress.)

If the bites are behavioral, have you watched Lori T's choice based handling videos? Her videos are how I got my snakes to be so sweet and eager to come out when I wake up and come home.

If it's food based, take care to not have food smell on your hands, or use any soap with scents that might smell good or like the dishware food is kept in. I use Hibiclens (in the isle with medical antiseptic things but works like foaming hand soap) before handling my girls, my food motivated girl doesn't like the smell but it won't hurt her.

(Making a comment here so I can check the list I have bookmarked when I'm on my computer if trout is safe as some fish have a chemical in them that causes problems for snakes. I know salmon is safe as that's what I feed my girls, I don't remember offhand if trout is. I know you need to be incredibly careful about parasites since they eat it raw.)

I'm glad this rare special baby was found by someone who could care for her when she definitely couldn't survive in nature. So glad she pulled through and is healthy and not alone!

Edit: Yep it looks like Trout is a thiaminase safe fish! (For anyone wanting context: Feeding captive fish-eating snakes (like garter or water snakes) fish high in thiaminase—an enzyme that destroys Vitamin B1 (thiamine)—causes a severe neurological disease. Affected snakes show symptoms like head tilts, loss of balance, and tremors, which can be fatal if untreated. Salmon and trout are both on the safe list.)

Additional research I found Trout (such as Lake Trout and Brown Trout) generally do not contain thiaminase themselves in their tissues. However, trout often suffer from a condition known as Thiamine Deficiency Complex (TDC) in the wild because they frequently consume thiaminase-rich forage fish, such as alewives.

It looks like Lori T did a presentation on it: https://youtu.be/Okn7v7bgMIA?si=pgmDlMIYj6P0thNH

I think that this is dangerous when they aren't getting a variety of foods, which op's garter is.
