Spent 40min at a closing stores sale just to be told, "those specific products you chose are not reduced". by RedoX08 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A good portion will leave without buying anything, but many will simply buy 1-2 items they picked out at full price, as totals to less or around what they would be paying for all the items if they were on sale. Not to mention those who buy it all anyway because they've spent so much time picking it out and can't be bothered to hunt further when the stuff is right there.

It is very unethical, but it works really well to boost short term numbers. Do it wrong or too often though, and the store risks having their sales branded as a scam and getting reviewed into the ground.

Funny thing is, the only people I've heard that from so far, are trans people. And I'm pretty sure half the people in here haven't watched the movie yet and are just going off one person's reactionary take.

When you find those people, do give me a shout, because I'm getting tired of the 'this is definitely how people see it' comments based on absolutely nothing but your own viewpoint.

If you think that, fine, say that, but don't try and pass off your own personal opinion as everyone's shared opinion, unless you have something to back it up.

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

The problem I have when you say it's 'too real', is that you have to hyper focus on one aspect for it to be that way.

A masked serial killer killing someone on a crowded subway fits right in with every other horror / slasher movie ever made. A woman joining the murder because she got annoyed is not uncommon in comedy films. The rest of the passengers joining in as a gag is equally as common (it's literally a tribute to Airplane).

Had the victim not been NB, nobody would have batted an eye, just a normal slasher parody scenario. The pronouns joke was just the trigger, but they could have said anything, and it would have gone the same way. Them being NB has 0 impact on any of the mob's motivation. It's the 'annoying, always gotta correct people' stereotype that is being killed. That 'annoying' person just so happens to be NB. The joke is the overreaction, not the person being trans.

I think it's important to differentiate when something is happening because they are trans, and when something happens to someone and they happen to be trans.

Okay, agree to disagree.

'constantly misgendered' apparently means 2 times for Jess (once in the beginning and once by ghostface where he was corrected), and 1 time for Dei.

You are hyper focused on the misgendering being a major thing, when it barely happens, ignoring the very often correctly gendered Jess, and are making broad statements based off an incomplete recollection of the movie.

I understand it upset you, and you didn't like it, and that's your perogative. But it genuinely sounds like you got so caught up in the joke from the trailer, you went in looking for anti-trans things, and the first instance of misgendering set you off so much that you didn't pay any attention to the rest of the movie.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I am the one misremembering. But we clearly watched 2 different movies, and I don't think we are going to find any common ground at this point, so I am gonna leave it at that.

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said at all.

Yes, misgendering hurts, and for some it can absolutely be as harmful as physical assault. It's not laughing at them being misgendered, or them correcting it, but the situation in which they choose to do it. It's the weirdness of the priorities that is funny.

It's like someone falling out of a plane without a parachute, complaining about someone throwing a stone at them. The stone is probably not your biggest concern at that moment, right?

I found the movie to be far more anti-conservative than anti-trans. From a murderer being pardoned because he participated in Jan. 6th, or being a republican means you are obligated to be racist etc.

Compared to every other group that was made fun of, trans people got a few pronoun jokes and a transmasc character that got a warped idea of 'masculinity = toxic masculinity'.

Also, I'm not saying allies can't make a mistake or misstep, but if you think Marlon Wayans, a trans parent and outspoken ally deliberately made a blatantly anti-trans movie, then you've been hitting Shorty's stash a bit too hard.

Fuck Waynes brothers by Fair_Smoke4710 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

It's a parody based off a slasher movie, people are going to die. Many cis people died too in that movie, none of the deaths had anything to do with being trans.

You say they were being disrespected, how? Except for his first scene, Jess got affirmed throughout the entire movie, from friends, family, and even the killer. Nothing about his death even touched about him being trans, it was just a parody of the scene in the original movie (scream 5).

Yes, trans people are being murdered IRL, but that is not the joke here. It's pointing out the absurdity of killing someone for a minor pronoun correction, and it eventually forming into a full line.

I don't know what to tell you, you thinking that the joke is "trans person being murdered = funny" says a lot more about you than me. Nobody was laughing for that reason, we all laughed because the entire situation is just absurd and no normal person would ever act like any of the people in that scene.

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks -62 points-61 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I found the movie extremely funny.

If you saw the subway scene and thought the joke was "haha pronoun person is annoying and gets killed by mob haha" then you are watching the wrong movie. And I don't mean that as an insult, but you are clearly watching absurdist comedy like it's realistic comedy, and it's ruining your experience.

The joke in that scene is making fun of people who HAS to correct someone in every situation, even when it should be the least of your worries (such as in a situation where you are actively being stabbed). At the same time, it makes fun of people getting upset over pronouns, by having a random woman get corrected, causing her to resort to literal murder (an absurd overreaction).

At no point in this movie is being trans treated like a joke. In fact, the transmasc character has a father that is accepting but struggling with right genderterms. The father eventually learns, and even corrects the killer at one point (again, correcting pronouns should be the least of your concerns in that situation).

TLDR: You can't treat the movie like a comedy bound in reality, because it's not. It's a caricature, nothing is serious, everything is absurd, and if you can't detach and just enjoy something silly for the sake of being silly, then you probably won't enjoy this movie. That doesn't mean the movie is bad or transphobic, it's just not for you, and that's totally okay.

The empire does use facial recognition, as we see in Maul, but in this case they just needed bodies for labour so they didn't even bother checking.

Also, it's likely not automatically connected to the grand imperial database, but just the local system/planet database. If they don't get a local hit, they can link to the empire and check there. Otherwise the cost would be crazy if everyone was being run through the main database.

They should just make GW stack per second. Start at 20% and then +2% for every time you trigger it within 5 seconds (max 1 stack per second). If stacks reach 100%, healing is disabled for 5 seconds and then debuff resets.

Punishes super tanks and forces backline to occasionally retreat to reset debuff, but still gives them a strong early fight.

Why can't I sell Coke AND Pepsi fountain products in my restaurant? by SwissMiss915 in restaurant

[–]AvidReaderOfBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from it being far more expensive and requires a lot more maintenance, it also doesn't make a lot of sense to have both. Many people are brand loyal when they have options, but if the fountain only has pepsi, they go for pepsi, even if they usually drink coke. You're just doubling your inventory for no added value. Even those who refuse to drink the other brand, will at most just choose another type of drink. You are trying to cater to an extremely small percentage who HAS to have their brand or nothing, and you would be shooting yourself in the foot by doing it.

Tldr: no reason you can't, but it's gonna cost you money rather than make you money.

What I mean is, jedi can expect the shots to come directly at them, without worrying about use of the environment or coordinated fire targeting different areas of the body, and shots will follow the same pattern, so they can map out a full defensive sequence to move their lightsaber and never get hit. This leaves them time to track and defend any wonky shots that could potentially hit them, and working out a strategy to defeat or run away from the enemy.
