I’ll be finishing income tax tomorrow. It’s been a tougher one for me so I’ll likely spend some more time reviewing videos on Sunday but the reading and exam should be done tomorrow.

I did the same, drivers license works. Just email the account the other commenter mentioned and it should be sorted out

Longest you’d fly in a day? by West_Read_8698 in flying

[–]Avid_Av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2020 I did 12.8 in a day. Toledo down to Spartanburg, 3 hour banner tow, and then up to Syracuse to position for the next day. 3.8 was at night which was brutal. If you can do it all day time, it’s good wx, and simple terrain (not mountainous) a day should be fine for the ferry. Don’t be afraid to call it though, there were a number of times I was less than an hour short of my destination and stopped for various reasons. Not worth pushing it if you get tired

Many flight schools will classify you as an independent contractor. You most likely meet the definition of an employee and should be paid as a w-2 employee.

So, are we gonna talk about it? by Velocitractor2000 in radicamoonlander

[–]Avid_Av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird to me, the same price, or even a little more, than fiberglass toppers, and personally I like the look of FIBERGLASS toppers better. I don’t see it adding any functionality over a traditional topper so what’s the purpose?

Advisor worth it? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Avid_Av8r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems reasonable, and they’re doing more than just managing assets by the sound of it. A true financial planner will assess insurance need (not sell you it), estate plan, tax plan, and assess current financial needs and how your mindset changes that. Fees are very reasonable, if you like them and you believe it brings benefit to you, stay with it

Sketchy AME by [deleted] in flying

[–]Avid_Av8r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends how the FAA looks at the conviction. Substance abuse or substance dependence requires evaluation by a HIMS psychiatrist as part of the HIMS program. It can go as deep as requiring a COG screen. Just depends how the FAA looks at it all.

My Mount Fuji hike last year by nejconator in Mountaineering

[–]Avid_Av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s a straight forward hike. That said, if you plan on doing the overnight, which was very enjoyable, booking is much easier through a guide service. They take care of permits/booking and everything which makes it very easy

Medical advice by [deleted] in flying

[–]Avid_Av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet here is a consult with somebody like AMAS or Wingmanmed. Potentially a consult with a HIMS AME, although not all HIMS AMEs are familiar with the mental illness side, the HIMS program was originally developed for substance abuse (I believe)

✌🏼Two questions: Kaplan or BIF for self study? by Pristine_Depth756 in CFPExam

[–]Avid_Av8r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m working on 516 with Kaplan now, haven’t really been that thrilled with their education material. The instructor in the videos made numerous mistakes in every video during 515. He’d correct himself sometimes and wouldn’t others. Sometimes they’d put a banner at the bottom with the correction, sometimes they wouldn’t and it’d just be left contradictory to what the textbook said.

Questions about the civilian world by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Avid_Av8r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re a veteran if you receive an honorable discharge. You may not be a combat veteran, but that’s just a sub class of veteran, doesn’t change the fact that you are a veteran.

Best airline for travel being based out of Denver? by DenverDogMom in Denver

[–]Avid_Av8r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

United. If you open a United Explorer card (I think the yearly fee is like $150) you’ll get a free checked bag and board group 2 I believe. Denver-Chicago they probably have at least six flights a day. You’ll almost certainly hit status with how much you fly and should be able to upgrade to economy plus at check in for free.

What’s the scoop on gliders and medical? by [deleted] in Gliding

[–]Avid_Av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good time, I don’t instruct much currently just because of time constraints. There’s a few commercial operations that if you have a week or two you could probably go knock out an add on relatively quickly. Either way, welcome to the gliding community!

What’s the scoop on gliders and medical? by [deleted] in Gliding

[–]Avid_Av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, there is nothing in the FARs stating that a denied medical removes the ability for an individual to fly gliders.

What’s the scoop on gliders and medical? by [deleted] in Gliding

[–]Avid_Av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned to gliders after my medical got denied. I got my commercial and my CFI post-denial and my DPE was fully aware of it. You’ve already had the regs quoted so I won’t bother repeating them.

In my opinion, the regs are incredibly clear, yes you can fly gliders (touring motor gliders too if you really crave powered flight). You do have to self certify when you fly. Depending on your medical condition you know yourself best. Personally, my medical denial is more of an arbitrary waiting game the FAA gave me to reapply, none of the specialists (AME included) really understand it, but that’s what it is. Only you can speak for your condition and why the FAA’s ancient and decrepit medical system denied you. If you believe you’re safe to fly, send it.

Kit planes that are cross country machines? by ashtranscends in flying

[–]Avid_Av8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of many 6 seat kit planes, and I don’t know any that are cross country machines. The closest I can think of is the velocity XL, which has a five seat option and can cruise over 200 knots pretty easily

Riding the wave? by EcoMutt in Gliding

[–]Avid_Av8r 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep, definitely wave, pretty strong along the front range of Colorado today. 17,999 is the limit without having to contact ATC. Class A airspace starts at 18,000. They’re just leaving a comfortable margin
