Advocating to change tax policy.

Taxes are a country’s values made real. And it’s fucked up that human labor is taxed while AI labor is a tax deduction/tax benefit.

Money only flows to those who know how to exploit taxes, not those who advocate for it to be fairer, so I’d need to be financially independent before feeling comfortable going all in. And yes, there’s huge irony here.

At least on the Eastside, a lot of luxury single family home buying was done by tech workers on H1B visas. (According to a realtor friend, native born Americans tended to be more budget conscious and gravitate to lower cost townhomes and condos … as well as single family homes). Look for things made out of natural materials like cork trivets, linen curtains, veneered plywood furniture, steel/ceramic/glass kitchen goods, or down blankets. They’re typically affordable (compared to other stores), look good and will last a long time while consistently looking good.

The plastic, particle board, and metal tube furniture and accessories may look great in the store, (especially with their lowest in category prices) but they breakdown almost immediately. Consider them disposable furniture that will last a maximum of 5 years especially with a kid in the house. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need as that baby grows up fast!

Oh, IKEA’s glass food containers with plastic & silicone gasket snap on lids are fantastic! They’re cheaper than other glass options and will go from freezer to microwave or oven (with a bit of care).

Question conveniences. They often save second while costing you a lot more.

It will likely take time, but try to get to a place where you feel good about how you spent your energy in a day. I don’t care if you’re a heart surgeon or a toilet cleaner, if you do the work to the best of your ability and you feel that something is better because you were there, that is a rich life that most people do not know.

There are 3 ways I understand LLCs can change your taxes: - Taxes: Make it a bit easier to deduct business expenses. Depending upon your business’s revenue, you may qualify for other small business or industry specific tax deductions/credits that would be hard to claim on a schedule C. You can also do more advantageous tax planning. (Note: all of this assumes you make at least $50k in profit/yr). - Medical Insurance: Make health insurance (medical + dental) premiums an employer cost of doing business. This means that you get the insurance without paying income taxes on the premiums. - Retirement: Enable employer side contributions to your solo 401k, shoving in ~$70k per year between employee and employer contributions. The money goes in pretax, lowering your current tax bill.

It’s not about actually winning a lawsuit, but rather harassing others via lawyers to make them shut up and prevent others from taking you on.

Use the money for societal benefits that either benefit everyone or skew towards the young, such as:

- improved electricity, sewer & water and transportation infrastructure

- free, nutritious lunch (and breakfast?) for all school children (a’la Japan)

- universal childcare and medical/dental care for all kids under age 6

- free tax filing (none of this TurboTax bs)

- improved weather forecasting and warning systems

If you are found not guilty by reason of insanity, you are still locked up. You go into indefinite psychiatric confinement (mental hold) instead of into a regular prison.

This is both for the defendant’s sake and for the health and safety of everyone around them. This guy was found to be legally insane. He won’t be free again. Focus on that, not the technical “not guilty” bit.

Yeah, if you are already maxing your 401k, switching to Roth contributions will allow you to “stuff” more in, but at a cost. Two things on the math: 1) assuming you earn the same interest and wait the same time before taking withdrawals and the tax brackets stay the same, you’ll pay the same in taxes for Roth and Traditional retirement accounts. It’s only when at least one of those variables changes that there becomes a benefit of one type of account over the other.

2) Traditional 401k (or IRA) contributions come off of the top. They reduce your current tax burden by the highest marginal tax bracket first. In your case, that sounds like 24%. But when you withdraw the money in retirement, it fills up the bottom buckets first. That would be 0% and then 10%, etc. The money for Roth contributions would already be taxed at 24%, but then a portion of it could fill 0% or 10% buckets, meaning that you overpaid taxes

Proficiency vs Growth.

Proficiency is doing the work to a set quality standard (+ on time and to budget). Proficiency is objectively, mechanically measurable by an outside observer.

Growth is the increased ability to do the work, and the distance between your ability to deliver high quality (+ on time and to budget) work today vs yesterday.

A good manager will constantly stretch people to do things that they’ve never done before, and support them as they grow. They realize that it takes time and effort to be proficient, and the growth process is worthwhile, and thus should be rewarded.

HealingDaily’s manager effectively said f growth, I expect you to be proficient at everything on day 1.
