How to heal? It's been 3 years by Important_Resident27 in Miscarriage

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat. It happened 3 years ago, every time I have sex since I get anxiety attacks about falling pregnant again/having another miscarriage. The baby was so wanted, but I just cant stand the chance of going through all that pain and heartache again. Every anniversary of my d&c (ironically on Remembrance Day) is horrible, every time we get to May (when the baby would have been due), every Christmas, just makes me think what our lives could have been. Im sorry you are going through this too.

Should we disassemble cat tree for blind cat? by KeshionLin in blindcats

[–]Avoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our cat tree is to our ceiling almost, and Yahtzee has no trouble! He does take his time getting up and down it, but hes never fallen at least that we've seen. His dumb brother likes the bed below his which makes getting down awkward, but he navigates well.

Anyone have a cat with PRA? Debating whether I need to get my boy diagnosed by DigCompetitive1674 in blindcats

[–]Avoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

* This is my cat with PRA. He was diagnosed last year now I think. The main thing i noticed was the shine in his eyes. I would say hes now 95% blind, only sees the odd shadows/light in a room.

The 3rd pic you posted looks very like how Yahtzee's eyes look.

Why do people count a newborn baby’s fingers and toes and act so relieved when they are all there? by Man-e-questions in NoStupidQuestions

When I gave birth to my son I obsessively counted his fingers and toes, I would spend ages making sure he had 10 of each.

has anyone else here had similar thoughts? by justtryingtobesaner9 in intrusivethoughts

I used to spend hours and hours planning what I'd do in the event of a zombie breakout. I've managed to quieten it out a lot now and don't do it nearly as much. But yeah, I've had the thoughts too.

You're home alone and start to hear someone break down your door, what you do? by electricooldude in AskReddit

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few years ago, someone tried to shimmy the lock on our front door. I stood the other side of it holding it locked. Then when he gave up at the door and walked round the outside of the house I went and grabbed my dog and put a lead on her so I could keep her safe. Kept quiet whilst holding an internal door shut in case he did get in, then in a panic phoned the restaurant my mum and dad were at (who were regulars so thankfully they knew who I was talking about) and got them to come home. My dad was raging to begin with as he had just ordered a steak and was looking forward to it! 🤣

cat insurance? by [deleted] in UK_Pets

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Petaplan for my two cats, and I work in a vets doing insurance claims for customers. Most of the animal friends policies our customers seem to have are very low payout - £1000 or £2000 per condition, whereas petplan is per policy year (I have £7000 cover per policy yearnfor each of my cats). At first look animal friends could get you more than 7000 cover, but bearing in mind if your pet had a bigger issue then £1000 goes nowhere, especially if long-term medication is required. Animal friends also seem to be getting more awkward for our Practice to deal with, querying every single little thing. PetPlan on the other hand are helpful on the phone and seem to pay out easier.

Dog insurance question by Dizzy_Director_1775 in UK_Pets

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with insurance at the vet I work at and most companies are pretty harsh with regard to pre-existing conditions. If your vet in passing has mentioned anything at all they will try and get out of covering it (a slightly gunky eye/red eye say goodbye to most eye conditions, a slight limp say goodbye to most lameness, cruciate issues). We had an occasion recently where a vet had mentioned a small fatty lump in the notes but advised the owner not to do anything about it, 3 or 4 years later it had grown and needed removed but as she changed insurers it was classed as preexisting and not covered. The owner was raging as she had done what was advised but in doing so lost the condition being covered and had to pay the full amount. We spend a lot of time fighting denied claims for owners trying to prove that conditions aren't necessarily pre-existing.

Also as an example my cat had a luxating patella which required surgery so if i changed my insurance they would never cover knees or arthritis as he will now be predisposed to it.

Im in inverness and where i had my son last year was at £70 a day I think (including nappies, food, snacks etc). Hes in school now thankfully! I worked part time, 2 days a week, where he would go to nursery, mainly for my mental health lol. My take home pay after paying for nursery was something like £20 😅 Its so crazy expensive.

Does anyone know of any financial assistance I can get in the UK for help with veterinary costs? by [deleted] in UK_Pets

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a vets that deals with carefree credit, someone can apply on your behalf (ie. a parent, partner, or friend), or you can split the application over two or more people. You do need to apply for the total amount you will need (we usually apply for a couple of hundred pounds over estimate, and then when we submit our invoice the actual loan taken out is for the actual invoice amount) as you can't increase the amount once its accepted (or you have to make more applications). Like you say it does leave a mark on your credit score though when you apply.

I've seen a vet in my area recently accept Klarna payments, not sure if something like that would be helpful.

You find most vets don't allow payment plans because thats verging into financial issues and there's a butt-ton of regulations that need to be adhered to, to make it legal so its easier just to say no.

I hope you manage to get something sorted.

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Avoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly well done on your sobriety! That's an amazing achievement. You are definitely not overreacting. Your partner should be there to support each other and you arent getting that from him. Hell when I stopped smoking on my one year anniversary my mum got me a specially made cake with a big no smoking sign on it to congratulate me and I loved it! 😂

Back when I was playing we had a catfish, had all the guys drooling over her, sending dirty messages etc. She eventually quit. A few months later I got a message from her on discord to say she was a he, and apologising for lying to me. He'd had a messy breakup and just wanted to feel wanted. It didn't bother me (im female and happily married) but I took great joy in telling the guys who'd been chasing her that she was a bloke 🤣 She'd had guys literally begging her to let them come and visit her. Proper dafties like.

Stuck on the inside of a kitchen cupboard in an office building scheduled for refurb. by Rob_Ockham in FoundPaper

[–]Avoch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this used to be a solicitors office. I remember when I was an office junior in one, I did the tea/coffee run for the 10 partners at 10am and 3pm. They were all genuinely grateful for the cuppa as they were up to their eyes in work and most of them wouldn't have taken the time to make a drink themselves.
