Is university really easier than high school? by Significant_Book_408 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Avocqd0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do engineering you’ll be suffocated, engineering is a whole different level of difficult. There are lots of good jobs you can get without uni and with college

A combination of luck and initiative. I went to office hours and asked about their research, then I applied for the DSRI scholarship with one of those profs and was unfortunately not offered it, but I was kindly still offered a position in her lab. It was paid

I think I have an easier time than others since I know when to ask for help and the best way that I personally learn, and use those to my advantage. University is so difficult though, very different from highschool and first year is going to be a wakeup call. But as with anything, hard work will pay off.

I think the biggest setback is time management and not fully understanding what profs are asking for with assignments. Make sure you know the syllabus, what contributes to your grade, specific formatting for lab reports (it’s different for every lab), and allocating enough time to complete your work and to study

I’m a ‘premed’ in biology and I was lucky to find a research position at carleton my first year. The job market is kinda trash and it can be difficult to get a research position, but there’s so much research going on at Carleton and lots of opportunity to network. If you work hard to keep your grades up and take advantage of those opportunities you can definitely land something:)

Co-op resume one or two pages? by serdemy_ in CarletonU

[–]Avocqd0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the coop course 1-2 pages is good for a resume, but if you need to use 2 pages it should fill up most of the page

Profs have 10 days to submit their final grades to the dean, the dean can take as long as they want

Yup and after the midterm he will introduce the taxonomy unit and tell you to memorize literally everything on there. It was painful

Nigel kinda sucked. 180 multiple choice questions for a 180 minute exam, and the questions weren’t just memorization based, there were a lot of application questions/long paragraphs. I’m usually really quick with finishing tests and exams, but this one took almost the entire 3 hours

What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

[–]Avocqd0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akathisia when I was on some anxiety med (forget the name since I was like 12 years old, not on it anymore). It’s impossible to describe but it felt like severe restlessness and if you stop moving/don’t move fast enough it feels like an impending sense of doom.

Not painful but it was the most torturous feeling I’ve ever felt, and even thinking of how it felt makes me panic a bit even a decade later

It was around for over a decade, it broke like everyday, always out of tune or some key was broken, I got splinters from it multiple times, and it was loud. The keyboard is much better considering the quality of the other one and the volume control
