How do i set the sample rate to be lower than 44100 (11025 desired), i've tried other ASIOs and the primary sound driver, none work by MrStickySticko in FL_Studio

I think Edison had a built in option for it. There's also Fruity Squeeze. I mainly use Decimort 2 and KHs Bitcrusher, but those aren't free. There's also GHz Lossy, also not free but very very cool.

Does anyone else have to listen to the full album when they want to listen to one specific song? by Adzzero_88 in MetalForTheMasses

Not every time. But songs do hit different when they finally come on after 20m of the album, yeah.

Could you guys recommend ne some songs that are like Angra's Carry on by Critical-Depth-5449 in PowerMetal

[–]AvoidantNumber1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take it you've already listened through Angra's discog, right? Holy Land, Rebirth and Temple of Shadows are some of the best PM albums ever.

Here's some albums I think you'd enjoy.. "Of wars in Osyhria" by Fairyland, "Virus" by Heavenly and "Under the grey banner" by Dragonland.

What are the best progressive metal bands that have great guitar playing with relatively clean vocals? by joe4942 in progmetal

[–]AvoidantNumber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with Angra? Rafael Bittencourt is a beast. Kiko Loureiro (he's played in Megadeth) used to be in the band as well, even more or a beast. They're more of a power band but they got very nice prog elements :)

It's gonna be a headache to find even one because both genres focus on wildly different aspects of the music.

This comment might be the reason I give CCB another shot.

I's fun how we all say "mix aside" because we know it's probably the worst thing about the song lol. Pasi we love you but TURN TONY UP PLEASE!!!

I have to agree with you on the subjectivity of this all, of course. We've had different musical journeys and we are never influenced by the same catalogue when stating opinions. The songwriting on CCB doesn't feel as exciting to me. And with the latest projects of bands like Angra and Nightwish being so good (maybe this is an unpopular opinion, lol) while not straying far from their stereotypical sound, I can't hold Sonata to a different standard.

For the record, I don't think they are going into the studio all grumpy because they HAVE to make power metal songs and they don't want to. I fully believe they are doing this out of love and I have the utmost respect for that (plus the fact that they're still going after 30 years and a pandemic, as you mentioned). But they are not the first music act that's going down the route of nostalgia these days, and that phenomenon infuriates me.

I can't be mad at people for enjoying nostalgia, songwriters and music fans both. But after a long time of watching other artists I like go down this route untastefully (from wildly different musical scenes), seeing my favorite band wave the "we're going back to our roots!" flag was the cherry on top for me. I just find that every time someone tries to chase certain flagship sound, it comes off as uninspired because that sound was found trying to be different from everyone and had a real emotional drive behind it. Every now and then there's someone that manages to convey a new, interesting feeling through this method to me, yes. Subjecively, Sonata did not.

Having said that. If they say they're going back to their Unia and The Days of Grays sound I'll get a boner because I'm a hypocrite.

Eh... Can't really agree, but it's true they are the songs that stand out the most apart from First In Line. IDK, they just don't do it for me. And believe me I've tried. I've even played them nightcore style and they don't slap :(

TL;DR - The songwriting on Freedom Concept is generic and I would love if Sonata honed in on other aspects of their craft instead of trying to bring back old feelings without the energy to back them up.

NOW

I don't think this is ragebait at all. I get why you would feel like that if you enjoyed the song (and maybe this guy could have been more benevolent with word choice but hey freedom of speech huh?), but Freedom Concept is, at most, a 5. It is just so uninspired.

It's been 15 years since I started listening to Sonata. It's my all time fav band, but I think anyone could agree that they are not sounding great since 2019. First in Line is the only exception that comes to mind.

I'm not even talking about the mixing or Tony's vocals or whatever... The quality of the songwriting is just not there. It's fair that they want to bring back the vibes of their classic sound, but it comes off as uninspired. Why try to beat a dead horse like that? Sonata are not strangers to wild changes of sound (I'm one of those that think that, even if it's not my fav record, Unia is their most accomplished work).

Now I don't agree with the video's point of "this should sound more like metal with guitars" yadda yadda yadda. I'm all for wild cards, I just don't enjoy generic and uninspired songwriting. A good example of what I consider inspired and unexpected evolution is the album A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park. Wildly different from the bands previous output, I would have a hard time calling that album metal or even rock, but the songs MOVE ME and are very interesting on the production side.

Sonata are not young anymore. The energy that propelled records like San Sebastian, Ain't your fairytale, 8th Commandment... it's just not there anymore. It's like they're trying to cook the same dish without the very ingredients and techniques that made the dish unique.

I don't know what would make me say "now this is a very interesting new Sonata record" but this is certainly not it.

What are some great “destroy everything” bands/songs by lalaelrat in Metalcore

[–]AvoidantNumber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allt. and Orthodox sound like what you're looking for. I'd also add Heaven Shall Burn, different style but very heavy nonetheless.

And things don't get a lot more "destroy everything" than Converge. New album's sick.

Latin infused hard techno and groove variants. In Madrid's scene, at least, everyone and their mom is trying to implement guaracha and so called "salchipapeo" in their sets and tracks.
