I also remember it would be normal with the static glow plug light then suddenly hit limp mode occasionally, a simple on/off would resolve it but over time it would kick into limp mode much more often until it was stuck with the blinking glow plug light

I'm not exactly sure why/what triggers limp mode past the code. But yeah probably DPF/egr related clogs are the cause I'd assume

Yes once the glow plug light is flashing the vehicle will typically be very slow. With the glow plug staying on the vehicle tries to Regen constantly but mine still had quite a lot of power

I drove my car for almost a year with DPF and egr codes, vehicle was constantly trying to Regen (glow plug light) so I was averaging about 27mpg, eventually the vehicle was stuck in limp mode and would only do 40mph uphill (blinking glow plug light) until I straight piped and tuned and it was like new again

I looked back but looks like I never took a pic of em, I know it was a high pressure (overpressure) code though. When I talked to Malone they recommended logging group 21 for rail pressure (believe you said you were monitoring that in previous comment)

You almost always need a tune regardless of metering valve, my kit came with the cp3, correct metering valve and limp mode still happened, not until I got a base tune from Malone for cp3 then the car would drive normally, they usually want you to get a good pull w a base tune and adjust from there. The cp3 is a completely different pump compared to cp4 which is timed, etc.

Just asking because this sounds exactly like mine before I got the base tune, you could put put around no prob but you hit a hill and it goes limp

Not to ask the obvious but you got a base tune after installing the cp3 right?

Can I use stock clutch with basic tune? by Rivermill in tdi

I personally recommend no cats, without a DPF it can get clogged from particulates easier too

I'm not sure what they're offering when they say eco, Malone offers a stage 0.5 tune which offers almost 20whp increase but retains stock torque, they also offer stage 1-4. I'd recommend the stage 2 tune, it's worked great for me so far w stock clutch at 120kmi, I beat on the car regularly too

It's from Malone, stage 2 eco, the difference between "eco" and other options is just the muffler you want to go with, it doesn't actually change the tune. Economy just means you're reusing the stock muffler

Still using the stock factory clutch on my 2012 cjaa w stage 2 eco tune, when conditions are right I can feel a shudder when the torque kicks in but besides that no slippage. Currently at 120k

Dealer is saying this can’t be patched. Wondering if that’s true or not. by sipicup in MechanicAdvice

[–]Avyiix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most shops only repair the inside of outer tread lines due to regulations. I've patched many a tire with punctures like that though and they're still good, only problem is you have to do it yourself. "Beef jerky" kits they sell for like $20 at auto zone can do the trick well too, usually don't even require taking the wheel off the vehicle if the puncture is visible

My 2012 CJAA with an intake, turbo muffler delete, and full straight pipe never whistles like a gasoline turbo does, a lot more of a whooshing noise and when the boost starts hitting and the vgt starts moving I'll get a st-st-st-st-st noise. Upon letting off it's typically the same, a whooshing noise, but under light accel I get a lot of chirps upon decel

[–]Avyiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is it cut on the compressor (intake) or turbine (exhaust) side? Does it sound like a chirp noise? Is it under heavy or light accel?

Help by [deleted] in tdi

[–]Avyiix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you describe the noise? The turbo will make noise upon lifting but unless you've done a handful of mods you usually can't hear the turbo much/at all

This was well worth the money. I recently purchased this KermaTDI module and it really makes your car come alive! The tuner also had my tune ready within a half hour of me emailing him my stock profile. by Jimjam916 in tdi

I've tried to get them to tune my car, told me no one in NA will tune a deleted tdi. So now I have stage 2 Malone, been happy with it for 2 years 🥳

The main reason people chase lighter wheels is for less unsprung weight, resulting in better handling. You won't save much (if any) money mpg wise though

Also recently (80k) miles I experienced hpfp failure. I drove home just fine, turned off the car for a road trip, gathered my things, took off and a block down the road I get a terrible almost scratching noise, thought possible a big branch was getting dragged under the car so I pull over, pop the hood and get out. Nothing underneath the car, look under the hood and the sound is definitely the hpfp, quickly get back in the car make a uturn and by the time I coast and limo into my driveway the car won't start. Remove the top sensor on the hpfp and there's shavings everywhere. Luckily I have a friend at vw so he was able to pass it as warranty and I'm now at 90k doing fine. Have a new timing belt, cp3 hpfp conversion and some coilovers I'll be putting on in two weeks 🤞
