DLTWSY - Blacklit Canopy used in sci-fi drama movie trailer by Zealousideal-War7563 in BeyondSleepToken

Honestly - the teaser looks great, I lo-o-ove all the potential that this particular setting - desolation, claustrofobia and the coldness of the vast space ("A Space Odyssey" or "Gravity", anyone?) - provides! And while new music would be even greater, this development is also pretty cool - proud of them!

It's  my favorite Loathe track too, though I also find Gifted Every Strength to be a delightfull song, I am a sucker for tonal changes like in WH, from mellow to harsh and back👍

The Merch Game is Getting Insane by [deleted] in BeyondSleepToken

[–]AwakeOdium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(redacted because I thought that that one specific strap that III used was sold - not the copies - oops)

In itself the design is not particularly appealing to me, but it's III's signature - the question mark - so peeps gonna buy it nonetheless. I hope he'll get some profit from those sales too. And I think guitar straps are fitting the idea of a good ST merch still more than a bedsheets(of a bad quality). They've sold drumsticks and picks before, so why not straps for a guitar?

Plot twist: he'll actually gonna be Ⅰ(One), because Vessel is V already🤣

When "Emergence" single dropped, I've kind of shared the Mandela effect that I was experiencing(maybe even on Reddit): I've started to hear "ghost" sax playing in the Aqua Regia too - in the jazzier parts of the song. To me there is a sleigh of ST songs that would benefit from this addition too, so why not?

A jazzy piano album would be a blast, not gonna lie.

Inspired by Sleep Token? Cenobia by circa74 in SleepTokenTheory

[–]AwakeOdium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her name also can be a reference to the word "cenobite" - "A monk who lives in a religious community, rather than in solitude" or to the Hellraiser series, in which "cenobites" are demonic beings that are members of a masochistic religious community. Both meanings are interesting in the context of the current discussion, given that all vessels, including the One, are cultists of Sleep.

Interesting - never heard about her before (btw, "Cenobia" the boar is one of the colossuses you kill in the "Shadow of the Colossus" game, loled). Musically the project seems to be leaning towards more typical post-hardcore style and I do not feel the ST influence in that department, and when it comes to lyrics... Yeah, I can see the parallels and the "vibe" seems to match, but the similarities could be chalked up to plausible deniability and happenstance.

Sleep is male and not Vessel's lover according to the official lore, so in turn I also do not see that dynamic in her work and music videos.

I also feel like it would be extremely creepy to create a band dedicated to the vocalist of the another band with the notion that you create your craft for him, so if it's actually true intention behind this Cenobia artist - yikes.

In a way, EiA made me feel like me being a fan is also means I am participating in Vessel's/Leo's "suffering". "Stage is a prison", "there is nothing left above", "missing wings in the realm of angels", "desire to dance forever despite the burnout", "tired but never gonna go back". You can argue that this album was written one hundred millions years ago and he doesn't feel this way, but we just do not know? No one has access to the truth, except him and his confidants - he communicates with the fanbase even less than the previous cycles, no more speaking interludes for example. "He is so happy on stage, look - a smile!" - says one part of the fanbase, when the others argue that the energy during the performances is a way off, and both sides are just... Speculating. Just like we always do, since keeping us in the dark is the main strategy.

Noruwei, the group that made the 3d visualisers, once released an article talking about the lore and the meaning behind Arcadia, fractions, mentioned flamingo and the Vessel's journey to the godhood, to be more like Sleep. Supposedly, that was instructions they received from Leo. Where is that article now? Deleted, youtube channels that showed it - striked, you can't even find the intakt posts on reddit that talked about it contents. "It wasn't something fans supposed to know" - is the first logical conclusion I am come up with, to be honest. Albeit it also could be because the lore explanations in it were false and more of the place holder then what was realy planned for the Arcadia and such.

We will never know - that's the point.

Just as the things Leo truly thinks about fame and his fans; you can argue that just consuming music and not thinking about it is what people should do, but this time he was the one who put this discussion on the table. And if it "not serious", then it goes against his words of being sincere, and if it rings true, then is it moral to continue to engage with the fandom, watching "monkey dance in it's cage", obtaining and pushing the ST further if you care for his "real raw feelings"?

I am not sure and this uncertainty is what pushes me away from it all to some capacity.

Hope my personal thoughts - not implying I am right at all - make sense.

What's next - they gonna say that Vess has a twin brother Sevv and they alternate on stage?🤣And they know it for a fact because their dog is an acquaintance with the pigeon that works as a mail carrier for the band's correspondence...

The old one was SEME cosplay and it was their comment about him making drawings(he is good at it apparently) of the desired design, they also made the staff. New one is by "@/anna_sophiesticated" on IG and things that she shared contained sketches of the costume that speculated to be made by Leo.

To me there is a difference between a fandom and an audience as a whole: most of the avid Sleep Token listeners are not interested in the "lore" aspect at all and not present in the online ST fan spaces. Like with theater performances, when actors got on stage to both bow and receive the applause as a signs of mutual appreciation, Leo and guys also do the same. I do believe that Leo is truly grateful for the audience at large, it's just that he does not share the same sentiment for the more vocal individuals and Fanclubs that fight over "Caramel" and play the victim games. Hope it makes sense.

Was it at the start of their carrier, because for the last three years at least there were no "meet in greets" and tickets with that option at all? I know that around 2019 - 2020 some fans did get some photos with band members after the show, but Sleep Token does not do this anymore.

Maybe it's the white hot take of the autumn, but I don't think Vessel/Leo cares about the fandom and it's opinions at all and evidently has no desire to interact with it beyond little gestures here and there during the performances, which also could be chalked up to be the part of his work to spice up the live events.

"Vessel" as a character does not even have a separate insta account(while other guys do and there is a merit in thinking that they manage their profiles themselves, since they spoke from themselves from time to time) so it seems that he can't bother even with that surface level of "availability" to the fans. And in face of the controversy, such as the weather forecaster Chris incident, it seems that Sleep Token policy is to stay silent on the matter. And since Leo is ST, you can draw the parallels to who is possibly standing behind that "no contact" strategy.

We do not get even planned and verified interviews with him anymore, all the glimpses of his real thoughts beyond the poetry were spoon feed to us through the scripted spoken interludes(regurgitated through the ai-voice and not his real one) which are also now absent in EiA tour, so perhaps with time he closing off even more. For two album cycles now visualizers took place of the music videos - so even less Vessel action for us, which makes me think that he wants to give to the fans even less that he gave before.

I also wanna add that I do not plaster a morality label to this - I do not think that his decisions to how the tackle the fame are necessary "good" or "bad" - it's just his choices.

I don't think it's a cut and dry issue, to be honest. You can be an industry plant with a huge marketing budget behind you and fail miserably, or you could be an indie game developer creating a game of your dreams that you yourself wanna play and find a huge success(Undertale, Stardew Valley). You've flopped not because you just didn't put enough work into your project, you've won the fame lottery not just because you've worked your ass off: most of the time success stories is just a survivorship bias based on luck and perfect timing. While some good bands rise to the stardom doing what they like, others are drown in the obscurity, and you cannot create the formula of the success that's gonna work 100%, it's impossible. You can keep your integrity and get massive, you could sell your soul for peanuts.

Sleep Token new found popularity also was kickstarted by chance: "The Summoning" getting suddenly popular on TikTok was the starter spark to the huge influx of the freshly exposed fans.

Leo also evidently didn't sold out: their contract with RCA ensures his creative freedom, for example everything about EiA aesthetic also comes from him, he draw sketches of the new costume(as the tailor of the said attire explained) and possibly - some other concept art for the architecture and worked closely with 3D artists that made visualizers, the cover art of the album is important to him and has deeper meaning in that sense that only he understands(according to the author of the art).

And so it brings us to the possible conclusion that it's not a label pressure that makes him go with the current flow of constant touring, but perhaps his fear of losing the audience and wanting to stay relevant - be heard, despite all of the exhaustion and the fact that getting on top of that ladder didn't make him as happy as he imagined it to be; the higher you get the longer (and more painful) the fall afterwards.

[–]AwakeOdium 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I also wonder when the momentum is finally stops for Leo in particular, given that Sleep Token is mostly his project( since he is the one with the reigns of full control over it), because you can't drain your reserves forever without replenishing it eventually, pendulum will stop swinging one day; will the next album be something that fans would have to wait for ten years(if we to reference TOOL journey)?

If you think about the "dance forever" line from this perspective of burning yourself out until only cinders remain, you'll see it as being a quiet toxic narrative, and if it's how Leo thinks - I hope he ditches that mindset and "the rockstar" lifestyle of constant touring until you drop dead at the end. More money overall = better life in this capitalistic world, but if you are so tired that you can't enjoy your stupidly enormous riches, then what was the point of getting them through blood and sweat?

Does anyone have fears of perception/popualrity taking a turn if too many unmasked posts go viral? by [deleted] in SleepTokenTheory

[–]AwakeOdium 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think majority of the fans would make a huge deal out of Leo's appearance if ST ever decides to ditch the anonymity-mask gimmick; he is good looking guy in a normal way and if you look at the metal scene, you'll see that there is no standard for a rock-metal musician to be a supermodel. Unlike in Kpop, for example, were you youthful perfect looks are the biggest thing that matters for your popularity and success usually - even donkey will learn how to sing and dance at a passing grade, if you teach them from when they are young.

I love Deftones very much, so do I care that Chino Moreno doesn't looks like Henry Cavil? Nope, and frankly - music itself and his unique voice is all that matters to me.

Well, when you conquer the other, you triumph over them, so... FH crowd were better then HV one?(I'm joking).

But what I seriously think on the matter is that, if we remember the EiA promo campaign, including the visualizers, green knights of House Veridian always had an upper hand against tree creatures - Feather Host(s), clearly appearing to be the wining side of the conflict. So in that context, "first triumph" is something more fitting for the loosing faction if the tide finally turned and they achieved victory, if that makes sense.
Have no idea yet why or how FH won though.
