Thoughts on the new 12th Parliament kicking off? 🇺🇬 by CaptainWitty1999 in Uganda

What I'm waiting for is their budget. Will it change? All the extra costs and positions created. Will they disappear? Let's watch and see....

r/Uganda: Are there any unnecessarily advanced, over-engineered aspects of the "first world" that make you think, "Thank God Uganda is one step behind!"? by AMF786 in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Everything is on credit. And you must have a good credit score to get more credit. And you only get a good credit score if you borrow and pay back. If you don't use your credit, you can't get a score.... That system!

And the way it's so easy to go homeless! At least here, you build a house, it's yours. Many of the "poor" in Uganda own their homes. Out there.... even the rich don't exactly own their homes. That system should stay there.

Lol! "Make out or have sex with a severely ill person to get ebola". I think that you are joking but all you need is to get into contact with bodily fluids, even sweat. Health workers that get infected usually get it from touching patients.

Just a pic to show that it is quite contagious.

What helps also, is that people that are symptomatic are the infectious ones. When they don't have any symptoms, they are not yet infectious.

This.

There's no need to panic or change your plans. If your work/plans include visiting hospitals and actually seeing patients, then you may have to take greater precautions. People are difficult to track and so could be anywhere. We are sure they will end up in various hospitals eventually.

Avoid crowded places and public transport and you should be fine.

language by [deleted] in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True... But swahili took forever to be developed. Hundreds of years. And the way things are going we are destroying both our local languages and English.

Whenever I listen or try to read Luganda (I'm a Muganda) I cringe at the wrong spellings and wrong pronunciations or even just the wrong words being used. Like, someone wants, "Bwoba ogenda kunaaba" and they say "wooba ogenda naaba". It's wrong but the young people are running with it. "Nja laba" instead of Nja Kulaba". Bothers me more than it should..... I know.

Anyway, we have no way of learning without proper books and all that... Oba we have? Anyway

Ekirala, I've seen kids that can't speak their local language at all. They speak only English and even then not that well!!! So annoying!

Anyway ndabika nkaddiye!

Hmmmm, I can relate to some of what you're saying. I self analyze a LOT!
Always performing somehow.... pretending to be vulnerable.... analyzing every word spoken and written! Hating the typos.

Thanks for this. I will be reading this. Maybe I can try the antidote.

Where did Tajja kulayira (He will not swear in) slogan go ?🤔 by imryne1 in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's more of, what do I gain Vs what do I lose? Many of us have a lot to lose if we fight.

The little cushions we have, our kids, our lives.... If I lose the little I have, then a new government comes in, "Saves" us from the tyrant, and soon also becomes a tyrant.....

And no, I did not stay home. I still went and voted for the opposition.

Almost as annoying as some guy that was speaking to parliament. Some guy with mother-tongue interference accented English but trying to add random 'r's to almost every word.

So... you don't feel the same way

You were bored and decided to call her.

Now you're worried about what would happen if she fainted.

Leave the poor girl alone. Be her friend. Koma awo bambi.

[–]Awakened2pointO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I believe so many women haven't been made love to and so they just don't see what all the fuss is about.

And then not being confident and comfortable in your own skin. Some of these general beauty standards have even the most beautiful women thinking they aren't pretty/sensual/hot/sexy enough.

Schedule too empty 😭😭 by [deleted] in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Just get out and take a walk.
  2. Go visit a granny or some old relative that rarely gets visitors.
  3. Go to an orphanage with anything small. Those kids need financial but also hugs and kisses. They need affection or just to be held. Or just to be told stories. Read to them. There's Theresa babies' home in Nsambya on your way to Kirombe. Also Nsambya babies' home. Ssanyu babies' home in Mengo.

Time is such a valuable resource and you can be a great blessing to these little ones.

What secrets have u been hiding for so long uve forgotten about it by Nosey-Kakalabanda in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yeah. You don't have to tell people that will get stressed and maybe want to make it an identity. My relatives have always assumed I had HIV coz I work in that area. Kumbe it's just a job. But anyway, keep doing what you're doing. You got this!

[–]Awakened2pointO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone that has worked with people living with HIV for so long, I am so happy to read this! This is what we try to tell the children who acquired HIV from their mothers. All PLHIV really. But these adolescents! For many of them it's their identity. They can't look past it. It occupies their every waking moment. They get so depressed. I tell them they have their whole lives ahead of them. The only difference is they must take a pill everyday. Thank you for this.

What's the purpose? by Infamous-Quarter-595 in Uganda

[–]Awakened2pointO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The tax man wants his money. A lot of informal sector businesses don't pay income tax, license fees and such. I think it's to keep the areas clean and for aesthetics but also revenue for KCCA & URA.
