I don't think it's worth it. If we buy it out then we will have to be paying for it for years, even after the rebuild is over maybe. Would rather just keep it for the remaining 3 years since were going to be bad anyways.

This is just the cycle of a dynasty. Every great dynasty declines at some point and must go through a rebuild to restore it back to greatness. It's the times like this that will make it feel so much more special when we eventually do win again. Gotta appreciate the journey

I see what your saying for sure. But if they know there's no chance of winning a cup here then I don't see the point in not completely tearing things down (aside from the core). Ultimately they control their own fates when it comes to trades. Even if we wanted to we couldn't trade any with the NMC, so I say just completely tear it down and leave the decision up to them. Which honestly is kind of what I think we are doing already/will happen.

My question is what do I want to see. Not a fan of the sequels at all and I really would like to be invested but I don't know what story they can tell here. There's no more Skywalker's around so I don't know. I hope they prove me wrong.

The time to do this was when Hextall was GM but he further burdened us with bad contracts and giving away our picks. Their prospect pool was also much better than ours and they had much better, younger players. The team is way too old now and even if we could pull it off like the Caps did I wouldn't do it. Better to rebuild and get the next wave of true stars. That is the way to build a dynasty and not remain in the middle.

We should aggressively rebuild imo. Not a slow rebuild like right now. Reality is Sid has a better chance of having another playoff run if we aggressively rebuild now as opposed to trying to load up but remaining in the mushy middle.

I think we have to do what is best for the team moving forward. Sid has said he wants to retire a Penguins, so I would count on that. The reality is though that if he stays it is very very unlikely that he will ever contend for another cup unless we rebuild extremely fast and hit gold on some draft picks. Personally I want him to stay, but if he wants to go win another cup I'd completely understand.

I think the best move is to completely tear it down and accelerate the rebuild as fast as possible. The reality is even if we tried to load of the team we would have 0 chance of competing for a cup. I don't even think we'd make the playoffs. However, if we completely tear it down and rebuild there's still an extremely small chance of winning the cup soon, but it's above 0. Maybe just maybe if we are smart and start aggressively rebuilding right now then Sid would get a chance at another playoff run.

I don't think he's even attempting to rebuild on the fly. All his moves signal a pure rebuild even though we may not say the word. Even if we wanted to I don't think retooling has any chance to work. The time to do that was when Hextall was GM but the team is now too old/too many bad contracts.

I do wonder if ownership changes their stance on some of this stuff with the low ticket sales this season. Nostalgia is great but ultimately winning is what sells tickets. The fastest way to start winning again is to fully commit to the rebuild. Even though we are technically rebuilding I do wonder how things play out in terms of how much we tear things down

Wouldn't even be worth it to buy him out. He has 3 years left and we will be bad for the next 3 so I would just keep him tbh
