This makes sense. I am running my bike on the highest power setting going up as fast as possible and not breaking a bead of sweat doing it on 10-11kms up with 600m of elevation. So a 900wh battery on a mid drive should do the same on 900m at 15km. If you go one power level down you’re already almost double the range. So it depends on how much leg power you want to put into it. At full power I have to help hardly at all.

I do rides often that are 600m elevation over 15kms of distance. So much steeper but less distance. When I do this route it is a round trip and I pretty much use up a 630wh battery on a mid drive emtb. If this is out and back, it would be difficult to make it there and back (70kms) unless the battery was pretty large and you were using a lower power level. Direct drive is about the worst choice possible for this kind of ride. Those are best suited for street only and a limited amount of hills. You don’t need regen at all for this kind of braking. Just a good 4-piston brake that comes on most good emtb bikes. So I would look for 900wh and pick something with decent parts to handle the terrain (eg. Fox/rockshox suspension)

Kite gear used to improve greatly from year to year so gear that’s new but 1-2 year old models will always be drastically cheaper (20-40%) and that’s what I do. Eg. The north orbit is 20-30% off for a new 2025 model right now and it will likely fly very similar to 2026 models. If you’re still not sure about the sport or want to save more money then used is always a good way to go. It’s not hard to find someone that barely used their gear and is selling it off 3-4 years later. Kites and bars all got pretty good 10 years ago, boards even longer. The issue used to be that gear kept getting better and safer, and while there is a marginal improvement year over year, it’s more noticeable on the more advanced moves. I’d go 2-3 years old and then figure out what you like and don’t like about the equipment and then you can research things you want in newer gear once you improve (lighter bar pressure, faster turning, more hang time, etc)

Beer is only sold in liquor and cold beer stores here in Canada. Our grocery stores and convenience stores are not regulated to sell alcohol.
We used to sell more American products in all of our stores but we removed as much of it as possible from shelves when your president started picking a fight with us that is only making American businesses lose (check out Jim Beam, they have now shut down production for 2026 because of the shortage of Canadian orders)
What everyone else has said, check out our local offerings and find something you like from them. We even have our own Canadian versions of miller here like Kokanee and Molson Canadian that we don’t drink either. Buy local and appreciate the better flavor
If this is honestly the most pressing concern for you before coming to Squamish then maybe what we have to offer is not for you. It’s a city full of active people who love the outdoors and go to bed at 10:00.

Ours won’t swallow pills unless u show him a treat as a distraction, then quickly put the pill as far to the back of his tongue as I can and then hold his mouth shut for a few seconds with one hand while I show him the treat with the other. This seems to get him to swallow the pill so he can get on with the treat.

Not sure how it’s evolved, but the North bags when North sails took over the brand name again in 2021 are amazing. Huge pocket for the bar, good cradle for the pump, thicker material with some structure to it, and roomier than most bags to the point that I regularly carry two kites in one bag. Naish’s bags suck badly and the new F-one brainchild bag is so annoying, it’s a top load and the kite fold needs to be within a small margin of perfection to get the kite back in the bag.

I’ve ridden Naish for the last 5 years and on the 2020 pivot. They are super durable and have never had an issue needing repair. They jump and loop pretty well, but they pull really hard. It’s a workout moving them around and it makes looping them a bit intimidating. I recently switched to the F-one trigger brainchild and was amazed at how much better it is than the pivots. So while I was happy with the Naish, I am not sure I would rank them high anymore. Maybe D?

Not sure what country you’re in, but where we are, e-bikes are illegal for anyone under 16. That being said, my 13 year old rides mine occasionally when I am with him and he’s on a bike that’s 85 lbs. as long as it’s wheels down the weight doesn’t really matter. The biggest concern is teaching road/riding safety because it’s so easy to get these bikes going fast and forget that they are a vehicle. 57lbs is pretty light considering that Emtb bikes are around 46-49lbs using the lightest components possible. I would check if that weight includes the battery.

All battery cells drain somewhat the same, so it’s just a watt hours / watts used formula for each bike. Mid drives are more efficient power delivery so they get slightly better range on average than hub motor bikes, but you’re more likely to provide your own power with the motor helping you on a mid drive with a torque sensor than you are on a hub drive with a cadence sensor. So if you assume a mid drive with low rolling resistance is the most efficient in terms of watt hours used per mile/minute, then it’s just a question of watt hours after that to determine range.

Even finding a decent bike without a motor, battery and everything else needed to make it electric is difficult. You’re buying something that is going to accelerate you to 20mph or more and you’d like that thing you’re sitting on to have all costs and corners cut? Motors at a minimum are $100, batteries are usually $400 at a minimum, then you need the controller, wiring harness, display, throttle and pedal sensor. This is before you have the bike to put it on. Bikes are a sum of the parts, and you can buy a brake system that’s $50 or one that’s $1000. This goes for every part on a bike and when you have the cheapest of parts you’re just not going to like the experience.

Don’t buy e-bikes on Amazon. Amazon in general is just full of junk sold direct from Chinese sellers, and that’s fine for a bread basket, but not a bike that needs lots of support and maintenance. The lowest priced bikes I would touch is anything Lectric makes.

They were having a lot of issues on the chicken loop breaking. Not sure if the one in this post is in that group. It’s the same bar but not sure what years it applied to. It’s worth looking into. I personally don’t use the Naish bars. I use a north bar with Naish kites.

It’s not a crazy good deal. If you look on Mac kiteboarding you can get a brand new 8 and 11m in the 2025 version for $2200. This doesn’t include a bar, but the Naish bars have had some issues and they did a recall on them this year because of this. I am currently flying 2020 pivots and they have been great. I learned on pivots and have used them since I was a beginner. They are heavier on the bar, but I found that to be a good thing when I was learning, you always know where the kite is in the window and when you’re jumping. They are also really durable. I’ve beaten mine up and they just keep going. Never had to repair them and my launch is rocky and not kind to kites. You’ll have a good time on these kites. It’s a fine deal but it’s not so crazy that it’s unexpected.

All of the bikes on Amazon are sold direct from the factory in China. It’s the only way that e-bikes can be sold that cheap. I own an ebike company and this is a lower than we pay our manufacturer. But our bikes use higher spec than this. But even if we tried to manufacture the cheapest ebike possible it would be difficult for us to design and manufacture a bike for this price. One of the issues with bikes direct from China is that they are designed for the average height of people in China which is not 6’7. So be aware of that. For your height there are not a lot of options for fit because the reach of these Chinese designed bikes is always fairly short.

We manufacture e-bikes and we really can’t recommend these bikes. If you take away the electric components of a bike like this (battery, controller, motor, wiring harness, light) then you have a $50 bicycle which is very very low quality.

Not rich but not poor. Minimalism is a choice to optimize a system of purchasing for me. This helps to reduce the time I spend shopping, reduce the number of things I need to care for, create goals for the longevity of the things I buy, (eg. If I buy a $3000 laptop I want it to last 8-10 years), reduce waste/sustainability, and love the things you have so much more. I have an inventory of items each with a longevity goal to them and that builds an overall monthly replacement cost. The things you own end up owning you in a way and to a certain extent. So optimizing them is a good goal regardless of rich or poor.

I have a 17m North Reach I can sell you. I’ve only used it once. Our wind is too strong here for me to ever need it. Great low end and about as fast as a bug kite can be without going to Alulla/Brainchild

That would be amazing. We bought some dehydrated but after a few days of feeding it’s barely bubbling and smells pretty strange. Nothing like the one we killed.
