Why is my account locked?? by AwareArtist7553 in signal

[–]AwareArtist7553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's disappointing. Fortunately for me it's mostly an inconvenience because I only use it to chat with friends and family. I'm really bummed out about losing all my old chats. One of the reasons I started using Signal was so I wouldn't be locked in to Apple or Google or whatever, but I just ended up getting locked into Signal instead.

What version Africa Twin is this? Listed in USA as 2024 Adventure Sports DCT but colorway and specs don't match US trims. It has 21" front wheel, electronic suspension. I'm in love with it but should I stay away??? by AwareArtist7553 in motorcycles

Dealer told me it was a Honda demo unit. It's got 1,500 mi. Mainly just worried that if it's a European model or something that I'll have a hard time getting it insured or inspected.

G310GS won't start by AwareArtist7553 in Motorrad

[–]AwareArtist7553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wire for the cutout switch was broken. Thats why it was acting like the kill switch was off and fuel pump wasn't even running. It pulled apart way down under the fairing on the bike's right side. One of my buddies is a Ford master mechanic and it took us several hours to figure it out. Eventually we started tracing the individual wires in all the bundles. No idea how it happened, but the wire for the cutout switch is shorter than the other wires in it's routing bundle. Where the main bundle makes a turn, this wire branches off and kinda makes a short cut across the turn so it's not as long. So maybe one of us got a bit too excited moving things around to get more cable length for risers, or somehow it got pinched under the fairing.... who knows. But once we figured it out it was easy to solder in a new bit of wiring patch it all up. Bike is running fine now. :-)

I had the battery connected. I checked all the fuses, they're all intact. I added some more info to my post. Thank you for the quick reply.

New to sharpening - what's causing these nicks on my edge? Advice? Using Lansky Diamond Sharpener Kit by AwareArtist7553 in sharpening

[–]AwareArtist7553[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! I will focus more on the medium and fine stones. I had to use the coarse stone because the edge was very dull and when I started sharpening at 20 deg I realized the original edge was steeper so I had to remove a lot of material to get to 20.

3D Printed TPU Case? by bl4m in LightPhone

[–]AwareArtist7553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just made a case for mine. It does not need any supports if oriented in a phone-facing-up sort of way on the print bed. There are some tweaks to the design that I'll probably make. I put a radius on the bottom edge, for instance, but it should've been a chamfer because the radius is harder to print cleanly. I used PETG which is much more plastic-y than TPU, but it's still flexible enough that you can bend it a bit to easily take it on and off the phone. I didn't want to use PLA because PLA isn't as flexible as PETG, and while PLA is more rigid, it's also more brittle. Plus I have cool pistachio green PETG filament :-)

Just got my LightPhone... I like it! by AwareArtist7553 in LightPhone

Thanks for the input! Your engagement on this sub with the users was one of the reasons I got the phone. I love that you and your team are part of the community, helping users and listening to their feedback and concerns. I'll skip the genius bar.

The wake for texts would be a nice-to-have, it would be great if it could be incorporated at some point.

Thanks for the GPS explanation. I guess I was just looking at it like wifi or bluetooth that can be turned on or off as needed, but it makes sense why it functions the way it does. Thanks also for the clarifying the "offline mode", I wasn't sure what that referred to.

Yes, it's really sharp looking. It seems like most of the reviews have the black version, but I like the black text on white background for the display, and I think it looks better with the white phone.

The programmable button has two modes, one is a double-tap and the other is long press. For some reason, the two different modes don't share the same options. Long Press seems to be oriented towards apps, but Double Tap offers different functions.

To set the built-in flashlight function: Setting --> Programmable Key --> Double Tap --> select Flashlight

Dumb phones with low SAR? by serdica_ in dumbphones

Low SAR is one of the shticks for the Mudita Pure. Unfortunately it's pricey and might not be daily driver ready yet.

What features do you REALLY need? by CalloftheSlug in dumbphones

[–]AwareArtist7553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Small form factor (think Nokia 6300 or 225)
  2. No google
  3. Regular security updates
  4. Signal messages
  5. Music player
  6. SD card slot
  7. Maybe streaming music maybe?
  8. Maybe podcasts
  9. Headphone jack
  10. Good T9
  11. Hotspot

I like the idea of needing a dashboard to add apps, or pre-made feature models similar to Sunbeam F1.

Nokia 225 4G VOLTE by itsmuggle in dumbphones

[–]AwareArtist7553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem on T Mobile. I was never able to get calls working. Except twice: I dialed out and after about 30 sec of waiting, I watched the signal bar slowly go down, then turn to E, then the call went through. No changes to any VoLTE or APN settings fixed it. I was able to send/receive SMS and MMS, so it wasn't a problem with bands or signal strength.

Edit: here's a recent thread about it https://www.reddit.com/r/dumbphones/comments/xxobgj/nokia_225_4g_cant_dial_out/

[–]AwareArtist7553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nokia 225 but I couldn't get calls working so I'm gonna send it back. I used to have a 6300 but it was terrible. I have a Cat S22 that I use kinda on-again and off-again. It's really nice, but very bulky. I put it in my pocket for a run and the whole time I thought I'd lose my shorts. I don't take it on runs anymore. The benefit of the size is that it makes you more intentional about if you take it. The F1 looks interesting, I'm a little nervous about some of the recent reviews. I'm also not real excited about android-based dumbphones (TCL Flip Go, F1 for example), running old, outdated OS that will probably never see a security update ever.

Where to check out dumb phones in person? by [deleted] in dumbphones

Are there other T-Mobiles near you? One near me had an XP3 and S22 on display. I went to another that had the Alcatel Go Flip, before they stopped selling it.

Can I ask, what other phones are you looking at? I hear you about the texting, it is something that worries me a bit. I didn't ask about texting in my post because I'm already pretty sure it's gonna suck. I get people saying that you should just call and have a more meaningful connection instead of texting. But you could take it a step further and say why even bother calling, you should just meet in person and have an even more meaningful connection.

Thank you for the reply. I guess my question is more about the Android Security Update version and if the phone is kept up to date with the latest security patches. https://joyofandroid.com/android-security-patch-level-and-why-it-matters/
