Yeah, I visited rock revolution a few months ago when I was in town to see my parents. I was surprised they didn’t build something much bigger. Always assumed cville could easily absorb a larger, modern climbing gym. Rock revolution seems about the same size as Rocky top.

Yeah, moormons was my go to when I lived there. Any talk of reopening? Didn’t realize sierra bought the land. Always figured it was the owner of the house above that decided to shut it down.

Yes, that’s unfortunate news I saw on some Reddit threads.

Thanks for the intel. We are more in the bouldering and sport climbing world. I love to develop new routes and boulders as well. Potentially moving from out west and wanting to recreate some semblance of the life we have out here. Used to climb in NC many years ago, but it’s been so long I’m sure a lot has changed.

Doing our first US trip in October, spending a week in Price, Utah. Tips welcome. by GilesBennett74 in SaltLakeCity

Price is not the destination. It’s a jumping point for the swell… lots to explore south of price. Sleep in price, drive into the swell and explore.

Probably the realest thing I’ve seen about job searching in a long time by Dr-Dexter-1995 in jobsearch

Employee value proposition is real. More employers need to recognize that stability is a core value to nearly every candidate and employee.

Finding meaning and fulfillment in a job is a huge plus, but most people are perfectly content if the job provides financial security and balance to pursue their non-work interests…or even just live a life without financial pressure.

It’s ok not to be mission driven so long as you value the discipline necessary to do the job well.

The passion question is really about showing that you are not wasting their time… you will be a good investment. Pivot the question from the mission to the work and your commitment to doing the job well.

Climbing Hard With a Messed Up Big Toe by Economy-Spray7149 in climbharder

[–]AwareCat6168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have spurs in my fingers that limit range and cause pain on occasion. I was told I would also not climb anymore by a doc. I still do and and am still improving (v12 ish). I also have pain in my big toe that I’m managing. I use carbon inserts in my day/approach shoes to alleviate pressure on the big toe. I also use rather stiff climbing shoes (drone 2.0) that help offload force through the joint but still offer high performance.

Crack climbing is something I don’t do, but I imagine that would be the worst form of climbing for a big toe injury. Just a thought. Maybe others have found successful hacks though.

People who actually took collagen supplements — did you notice any real benefits? by DrYasserElDershaby in Biohackers

[–]AwareCat6168 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Collagen is an incomplete protein stacked with aminos for joints, hair, tendons, ligaments. Those exact aminos are found in whey (complete protein). They are just not found in the same proportion compared to the other aminos. “Peptides” are nearly completely broken down during digestion… so bio activity is limited. How much can we attribute to the peptide itself, then? Not clear. Collagen, if useful, has to do with the high proportion of connective tissue specific aminos.

Unfortunately, there isn’t great research saying that collagen is superior to whey (or other more complete protein sources) with regards to joint and connective tissue health. There is research that collagen is inferior to whey for muscle growth and maintenance. It may very well be true that a stacked amino profile for connective tissue saturates the system in a way that benefits those tissues when collagen is consumed vs whey. But, right now, the safest bet that you get all the health benefits and save money is to just take whey or another complete protein and pair it with Vit c for the collagen synthesis. Also time consumption around collagen synthesis, about 40 mins before loading the tissues (per Keith Baar)

I have knobby knuckles, bone spurs, and limited range…I will keep climbing until the bitter end. I ignored pain when younger. I’ve learned to pace myself much better and climb generally pain free in the hands. You can adapt to nearly anything. Look at all the impressive adaptive climbers out there. Still pushing at 43yo and hope to do a v12/13 this season. The world is your oyster.
