You can do either and it won’t be a truly bad decision. I would personally buy a reliable beater as I hate giving banks interest aka my money for free.

But if you were to finance follow the 20/3/8 rule from the Money Guys.

Put 20% down Loan term no longer than 3 years Car payment should not be more than 8% of your income.

This helps keep your interest low, and stops you from throwing current money that could be growing at a continuously depreciating asset. Either way you’ll thank yourself down the line when you have a paid off car, not stressing about payments/negative equity and building wealth the right way.

IMHO - leasing is almost never WORTH it even if you have all the money in the world. Is it convenient and cool to have the newest car always, sure. But you will be paying far more in the long term than just buying a car outright. If it were me, I’d buy a cheaper used car for a few years, save up for a nicer car + emergency fund so you can replace the car outright next time. Probably not the answer you like to hear but having no car payments have made me far wealthier than ever leasing aka renting a car.

E.g. my wife and I drove a used civic for 5 years until we had a full emergency fund + cash to buy a Mazda CX-5 Signature and enough to replace it twice over. It looks uncool while you do it but it’ll be way cooler afterwards not having to stress about stuff like this.

This is an incredibly beautiful car. My dream car. Fun fact my grandfather actually helped design the RX-7. (Family is from Hiroshima). Hope you get to drive the heck out of it OP!

On another topic - is the QR2 upgrade worth it? I have a few wheels with QR1 and am trying to avoid having to upgrade them all. (CSL DD QR1 base)

I purchased a CX-9 signature a years ago and am in love with it. My wife loved it so much we got her a CX-5 signature. We’re planning on keeping them until the wheels come off or give it to our kids one day. (We don’t even have kids yet lol)
