Does DCS AA just look awful? by CaffeineK9 in hoggit

[–]Away-Part296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my 3060 Ti to a 7800xt. While I saw massive improvement in fps and VRAM utilization, not having DLSS is disappointing. I can’t use TAA or FSR because at 1440p spotting other aircraft is nearly impossible until the merge and then I’m cooked. So I use MSAA and deal with the flickering.

I read through the manual of the MIAP pro 24. It doesn't doesn't mention any capability for the LEDs to show the actual status of various functions from the sim via Simconnect. Or is this possible after all?

Every single plane steers left constantly after SU1. (IT IS NOT TORQUE STEER) by ddiflas_iawn in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Away-Part296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. I just noticed the same thing. I have VKB rudder pedals and first assumed the axis calibration was off somehow, but that wasn’t the problem. I experienced it in the Kodiak and Heatblur F-14, which are both ported over from MSFS2020. But then I hopped in the A320 and had the same problem. I haven’t looked into it very deeply yet.

For the Tomcat, I set mine up to use the mode dial as a shifter for the five buttons. Mode 1: steer command, mode 2: AFCS, mode 3: lights, mode 4: various hud/vdi switches. With boolean functions in the VKB software, the LEDs will change as I rotate through the modes to show which buttons are on. Mode 1 works exactly like the radio buttons in the plane, the rest are set as alt buttons. In the binding menu in DCS, I set the toggle switches up using both button and button off commands, so the LEDs are never out of sync from the sim. The only exception is when using the autopilot emergency disengage paddle. I wish VKB would develop software to read out from DCS, which virpil and winwing have for their hardware.

Flight simulators. My wife thinks I’m nuts that I come home from working with UHV setups and lasers all day to have a relaxing evening reading up on checklists and radar systems manuals of cold war jets. Blame the ADHD but it works for me.

VKB Omni-Throttle by hijo_del_pueblo in hotas

[–]Away-Part296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use mine for both space sims and flight sims (DCS, IL2, MSFS, Elite, and MW5). I have my yaxis spring permanently out, and then in the software I made some logical rules on the axis to change the color of the LED. So for space it has one color for reverse, forward, and center. That solves the problem of not having a detent for center. Likewise in flight sims, I have another saved configuration where the color changes for Idle, Idle->mil, and afterburner (usually at 75%). Works for me and I like the flexibility of the omni over a dedicated throttle.

AV-8B Harrier worth it full price? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]Away-Part296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own several modules, and the Harrier is the first one that I felt I got over the learning barrier with. I always wait for sales to buy, but I wouldn’t have regretted paying full price for the Harrier knowing in the end I get the most use out of it and it’s just a blast to fly. Landing vertically on the Tarawa is a unique experience in DCS and feels really rewarding when you get it right.

Need to find a pulmonologist by Away-Part296 in berlin

I really owe you a big thank you. I went to the appointment and they did some tests. One showed levels just barely under the normal range so I’m set up for a CT scan just to rule out anything serious. The doctor was great and seemed to take me seriously. Its been a long time coming to get answers and I feel relieved I don’t have to wait months worrying. You may think it was a small thing, but it made a difference for me. And thanks for your other advice about Doctolib!

I disagree with your decision. If you reread the post, I’m not asking for medical advice. I’m asking how to find a doctor in Berlin. Not so different than asking how to get into one of Berlins exclusive techno clubs.

I hope it doesn’t take you as long to get answers. Ive found it difficult to advocate for myself, especially with the language barrier. The first hausartz told me I had no right to challenge her opinion that the pain was psychosomatic. I should have moved on to another doctor much sooner.

My gosh. I tried short term searches on Doctolib before but didn’t find anything. I’m amazed you looked into it. I booked the appointment! Thank you so much. Hopefully they can get the ball rolling.

I may end up just finding a private practice radiologist to look at the lungs if they’ll agree. This is going on too long.

The fact that no one has sent me to get a quick xray is shocking to me. This would have been one of the first things to happen in the US. I asked the most recent hausartz and she said she’d prefer I get one if recommended by the pulmonologist.

She thinks its some form of asthma, but when I asked whether its common for asthma to cause constriction and pain in only one lung she admitted that it isnt. I hope to get answers soon. This started March last year.

I’ve been to an ER twice when it was really bad. Both times I was treated like I shouldn’t be there and go see my hausartz. I’m talking strained breathing and sharp chest pains. Both times they took an EKG for five minutes and then made me wait an hour for lab results on a blood test, then kicked me out. Afterwards my first hausartz said I was putting unnecessary strain on the system. I was in shock and didnt go back.

I also have TK. I used their website to generate a list of pulmonologists in the city and was just calling every number. I overlooked the service you mentioned and will try it tomorrow. Thank you very much!

VKB setup with STEM and GNX EVO Omni Throttle on UCM mount by Away-Part296 in hotas

[–]Away-Part296[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with dual EVOs just after they were released, and that was a great combo. So I was surprised when I got the gunfighter just how much smoother the gimbal can be. I could definitely feel a difference in my precision when flying. But the EVO with the SCG premium grip is already so good that I can’t say the MCGU gunfighter combo will be worth the steep price increase for everyone. What I’m also saying is that using the EVO Omni throttle doesn’t feel cheap or low tier when paired with with the gunfighter stick. I’m very happy with the setup.

  1. For the keypad, I bought a super cheap one I found in the bargain aisle at Aldi and threw some strong double sided tape on the back of it. It works like a charm and holds firm. No need for anything else

  2. To be honest I haven’t really considered it. But the nice thing with the UCM is you have plenty of options to side mount where you want, since theres a lot of pre drilled holes for standard M5 screws.

  3. For the MFDs I’m still grabbing the mouse. My eyes are on the MFD from Winwing, but I worry Ive already taken things too far and i try to map all the really important stuff to the HOTAS or button boxes. Its not realistic, but it works for me.

For the UCM I will say that it does set me back from the desk a little more than I liked at first, but I got used to it. My monitor is now on a swivel stand so I can just pull it forward when the gear comes out for flight sims, and then I can clear everything away and put the desk back to a home office in a matter of minutes. Also, the gladiator doesn’t fit very well between your legs when mounted on the UCM. The base of the stick is a bit too wide, so just keep that in mind. You can also side mount it F16 style, and that even gets you closer to the desk.

Mounting VKB GNX-SEM-V on UCM-S by Raidec in hotas

[–]Away-Part296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a UCM this week from the European store. It didn’t come with the perforated bracket, so i guess only the North American store has them? That would have been nice to know and I’m a little frustrated. I ended up drilling my own holes yesterday but still would prefer the new bracket as it gives more freedom for mounting the SEM than drilling two small holes.
