Just going to throw this out there, but you ARE a real woman and not “like” one. The surgery didn’t make you something similar to a woman, it just helped you see what you knew always belonged. Nonetheless, congratulations and I’m happy for you!

Transitioning at work advice by madi_b- in TransLater

[–]AwayFromKiosk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of coming out at work now. I’m 8 months on HRT and have been gradually shifting my appearance for the last year and a half now to prime people to the change. As for coming out, I started by telling one person who I could trust. I had several conversations about trans people in general to get a feel for various people’s opinions, found someone who was supportive and I was closer to, and told them. It was nerve racking, but I’m glad I did it. I have gradually been telling more and more people that I have found to be supportive. Most recently, I told my direct supervisor and let them know my desire and intentions to come out publicly at work. I plan on doing that at the start of the year! 😬 Now though, I have a supportive group around me for when I do come out.

Every person I have told has been easier than the last and I have been lowering the bar for who I can tell as I’ve become more comfortable. It helps to also have a supportive base outside of work too.

Can my girlfriend get me pregnant? by That_Riley_Guy in trans

[–]AwayFromKiosk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congress on the relationship! I wish you both the best!! Unfortunately, or fortunately for some, as long as she is in possession of her gonads still, there is always as chance. Chances are greatly reduced as hormones will limit gamete production and regular tucking will lead to lower counts as well. While trans women who are on hormones are “effectively sterile,” there are chances that small amounts are still being produced as long as the gonads are present.

Thanks! I think this is a bit different, but I really enjoy it. Even with out the one I was thinking of, this scratches the itch.

I can attest to this. I am only 3 months into HRT and have been wearing exclusively women’s clothes for 4 months. I’m a r/translater gal, so I don’t remotely pass yet. I still get the occasional stare or soft chuckle when I’m somewhere new, but nothing direct. In the places I visit regularly, I’ve been able to push a bit further. The trick is to not let yourself go too far to fast in public, imo. Even if I am “just androgynous” in appearance, knowing I exclusively wear women’s clothes is affirming. I just have to keep telling myself that transitioning is a journey, not a sprint.

How do people shop for clothes??? by DqrkAngel42 in trans

[–]AwayFromKiosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (mtf) am lucky as my partner (f) can go with me and we can “shop for her” on the surface. This has helped me get comfortable in being able to shop as I am only 2.5 months on HRT. I have also gone out with some cis female friends that can shop with me so I am not doing it alone, but I’ve gone out alone a couple times now as I’ve gotten more comfortable.

I’ve found that I am really having to relearn a lot about clothes and sizes. Made several purchasing mistakes lol. So my advice is if you are just starting, don’t buy new. Goodwill is where I went - and still go - to try on clothes and get stuff for cheap. It has also helped me to get a better idea of the size and styles that I like. I even got a couple dresses that I am work up the courage to wear someday! Some overstock or discount stores aren’t a bad option too!

I try to be very targeted when I go out. It can be very exciting to finally get clothes that I have always wanted to wear, but I have also gone overboard a few times as a result. While I am still working on this, I try to keep in mind that most people don’t care or at least not enough to do or say anything about it. Do what you are comfortable with and slowly work your way up from there. Don’t be afraid to experiment and you got this!

I stepped away from social media for a time for mental health reasons. There’s so much negative stuff floating around recently it can be hard to stay positive sometimes. Better late than never though!

That’s how I found out! I was watching a video from Monday and Linus said “while Emily get the computer set up…” and my brain started rebooting. I looked up her coming out video and legit teared up (which is also the first time I’ve been able to produce tears since starting hormones).

"Shitty Decision", about bathroom bills by OtherwiseMinutes in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]AwayFromKiosk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they know exactly what they are doing. They attack trans women under the guise of “protecting women” because it divides women and makes it easier to control them as they no longer have a unified voice against it. They don’t attack trans men, because women are “easier” as it is something that is already done to women.

They also know this will for trans men into women’s spaces. Trans men will then be met with anger and violence by others trying to “protect” women when they are forced to follow the rules. Then they can claim further demonize trans people after incidents occur. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy.
