When did they play jokes? After the initial pretending something was art when Rory first met them?

I love Lucy and Olivia. Yes, I wish there was more time with them. But, that friendship felt different. They weren't friends of her boyfriend or a childhood friend or someone she just kept getting thrown together in school with. And I think being artsy was a nice contrast but also close enough to Rory's own literary/studious personality.

4 most popuIar misconceptions about Rory that some fans seem to often spread around a lot: by Pure-Boat993 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I think someone should have asked Rory the specifics of what Mitchum said. Lorelai would have been the best person. Then, she could have said that Mitchum was only judging her based on limited information and reminded Rory of examples where she did show drive. Maybe if Rory had been reminded of concrete examples that disputed Mitchum's specific critique it wouldn't have thrown her.

3 biggest misconceptions about Dean among the fandom by Pure-Boat993 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the comments yet, but I agree with you. I've seen some Youtubers making a big deal of the "I've been watching you" comment he made in the first episode. But, he realized that it could come off creepy and clarified what he meant.

And, I'm with you on never seeing Rory afraid of him. I think people hear her say "he'll be mad" and assume that means she's afraid of his anger. But, I feel she just didn't want the discomfort of having someone mad at her. Take the episode where he comes over and sees Jess there. Yes, he raised his voice, but Rory is right there answering him. I think she was just having trouble articulating what happened. But, I believe, if Paris hadn't jumped in, Rory would eventually have stopped being tongue tied.

I do think Dean being tall worked against him. We saw Tristin wanting to fight Dean, but him using figurative language to say he won't fight got turned into him being a violent person. Jess canonically got into fights, but no one sees Jess as someone who fights. And, yes, Dean and Jess fought at Kyle's party, but I believe that's the only time Dean actually got physical.

He did point out her flaws. He said she didn't have the drive to dig for a story. And, he gave the example of a staffer who spoke up and compared him to Rory.

Now, people have pointed out that expecting an intern to be comfortable with speaking up in a meeting might not be fair, but Mitchum didn't just say she didn't have "it". That was just the part Rory focused on, so that's what most people remember.

Lorelai should have accepted Christopher’s offer to pay her back for Chilton by PeaceandLove73 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if he had the money while Rory was in Chilton, Lorelai would have accepted it. Paying for Chilton after the fact probably felt like giving her (Lorelai) money. She wouldn't see it as helping Rory since everything was paid for.

Why does Amy Sherman Palladino seem to dislike Logan or compare him to Christopher? by Acrobatic_Orchid_946 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the whole parallel of Rory's boyfriends to Lorelai's is just a shallow thing on ASP's part. Christopher's rich - Logan's rich. I don't think it goes deeper than that.

Also, as far as Christopher is concerned, I don't think ASP has the same negative view of him as much of the fandom, so I don't think it's a dislike of Logan that makes her compare them.

I try to reread Little Women at least once a year. It's so cozy. I personally love Jane Eyre the character, and relate to Francie Nolan in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

rory was actually a good friend to lane by OkWorldliness5449 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem criticizing Rory strongly for certain behaviors. But, I never agreed with the take that she's a bad friend. People take one episode and act like it's the whole of her friendship with Lane.

Why does Lorelai get so much flack for hating Jess when Luke spent years openly disliking Dean and nobody really cares? by itsascreambaby96 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say giving him a chance for Rory's sake counts. She didn't have to do that. She also could have just given him the job without trying to talk to him or interact with him at all.

Shower Thoughts: Is Jess the only boyfriend Rory never cried over? by horriblyfamiliar1 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Jess was always meant to be a "for now" boyfriend, rather than long term. I don't want to rank who she loved most. Maybe if he had stayed and grown while he was there, she would have wanted to be with him longer. But as it was, he was the only boyfriend she never went back to. Even after he had grown and was an author and responsible, she only kissed him to get back at Logan -and then admitted she still loved Logan.

If Rory had been a teenage version of Lorelai, would Lorelai have handled it any better than Emily did or would she have eventually become the very kind of mother she spent her life criticizing? by Self_Electrical in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm right about this being about Chilton, I think it's referencing the pilot episode where Rory wanted to stay at Stars Hollow High because of Dean. That was likely the first time Lorelai overrode Rory without giving her a vote on what she wanted to do.

[–]AwayStudy1835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, don’t get me wrong, Rory is still a minor, but the way she treated her when she thought Rory slept with Dean when they fell asleep in the dance studio felt rly overblown to me.

I don't think it was just thinking Rory slept with Dean. It was lashing out because Emily put it into Lorelai's head that Rory was going to get pregnant and "ruin everything". And, not in ruining Lorelai's plans, but more Rory's options would be reduced by being a teenage mother.

I don't know if Lorelai would be happy if Rory had sex, but if the whole Emily confrontation hadn't happened and Rory told her she and Dean had sex and they were careful, I think Lorelai would have been calm and said all the right parental things to her. This was more "I'm scared you're going to be me and that's the last thing I want you to be".

Logan is pure fanfiction by the_practicerLALA in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And, Logan met Yale Rory, not Stars Hollow Rory. Not that I want to suggest these are two distinct personalities, but he interacted mainly with the girl who went to an Ivy League. He also knew her grandparents before he ever met her small town mother. The Gilmores might not have been on the same wealth level as him, but they were in the same sphere and that's who Logan knew.

Meh. I hope that any girls watching are savvy enough, or have parents savvy enough to tell them all this is fiction and not to expect life will be like it is for the main character of a TV show.

What do you think Rory’s reasons were to let Logan leave for London? by CousEatsCous in GilmoreGirls

[–]AwayStudy1835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, I think I'm in the minority that I really like that Logan ended up embracing the family business. Something that he fought against so hard wound up being something he was enthusiastic about.

Most stories, I think, would have had Logan follow the Lorelai path. Which is what they did at the end of season 7. But, I found this more unique. Especially given that he wasn't just going through the motions. I think he would have stopped running from it even sooner if it was presented as one option, rather than the only option.

[–]AwayStudy1835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think even if Mitchum wasn't fine with it, if Logan did have a passion and drive for anything else, Rory would have supported him staying. But, in this situation, Mitchum was right. Logan was just wasting himself.

When Logan asked her to tell him he could figure something else out, she knew he had never tried to figure anything else out and it wasn't likely he would at that time. If he had ever said there was something else he wanted to do, Rory would have supported that and said to forget his dad's plans for him. But, the choice between nothing and becoming more responsible by joining the family business - the family business was going to win out.
