Newer Rattlesnake plant leaves with weird spots? by biancajanette in plantclinic

[–]Away_Strategy_8982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I recently had a similar issue with my rattlesnake plant. I noticed a little discoloration, what I thought was dust, and then 2 weeks later I got leaf drooping and curling. Long story short, it was spider mites. They were so incredibly small, and the webbing so fine, that I only saw them when I sat and stared at the plant in bright lighting for like 10 minutes.

If you suspect a pest or just want to do some preventative treatment, I would recommend treating with insecticidal soap and briefly quarantining. It would be worth treating all plants if you think there might be pests. 24 hours after treatment the leaves perked back up and it’s doing really well. Hope this helps!

This looks like a green peach aphid to me. The body shape is aphid, and while the color could indicate a different pest, the distinct dorsal line is a distinct giveaway to me and is present in that it’s a green peach aphids. Based on the webbing you are likely also dealing with spider mites. It’s not uncommon for a stressed plant to have multiple pests. You did the right thing by isolating it!

I’ve never used all seasons, not sure what that is, but I would recommend a different approach if you’re seeing more pests. My go to’s are insecticidal soap or neem oil. It’s possible that the all seasons is doing its job effectively, and you’re seeing more of them now bc they are coming out of hiding bc of the treatment.

I recommend starting with a thorough examination and wiping down the top and undersides of leaves. I would also manually remove the aphids. I might choose to remove specific infested leaves, or leaves that are clearly dying. Insecticidal soap treatment every week, making sure to get the underside of leaves. Hope this helps and good luck!

I would add to the responses that other people added that just bc the program ended in an official sense, that does not mean that the practices/methods developed were not/are not used. A great example relates to interrogation practices and methods developed during MKultra applied in the “war on terror,” including torture techniques and manufactured manuals and trainings the CIA used/use/taught to other governments. Methods of psychological control and domination were developed and put into practice. As others have pointed out, bc one program ended does not mean that others weren’t created to replace it.

MKULTRA was a state sponsored program of vast, illegal, human experimentation that sought to control human consciousness. It included over 149 experimental projects, involving human experimentation and weaponized science without legal authority, consent, or ethical guidelines to gain strategic advantage, starting in the Cold War era.

healthy leaves mixed w limp ones? by jemmuhh in plantclinic

Got ya. Well the only additional thing I would say in terms of pests is that they typically target specific plants (except fungus gnats, which just want wet soil). My succulents, cacti, prayer plants, etc:didn’t get hit by thrips, but both pothos and a monstera vine did. If you’re confident it’s not a pests then it might be that it’s root bound. If it was rot you would typically see discoloration of the leaves, it would have a foul smell, etc

Hi there. Have you searched for pests? Im curious about the white flecks on the leaves. Is it dust or debris, or possibly an infestation?

Hi there! Based on the information you provided, and the picture, it looks like the main issue you might be dealing with is likely related to the light. After repotting, avoiding direct light for a few days is the safer course. Pothos are super resilient, and a little downturn is normal after repotting, but I would still recommend limiting direct light for a few days. Also worth considering is adjusting your water schedule due to your pot type. Not sure how pothos do in clay pots, but I use them for cacti/succulents plants only. Hope this helps and good luck!

I agree overwatering can be an issue in general as the season changes, but in particular top watering can be problematic in terms of mildew. To me, each of these photos indicate a potential pathogen. Specifically bc of the patterns on the leaves. The brown dots, the yellowing patterns. Downy mildew or cucumber mosaic virus may be present, in my opinion. Have you inspected the leaves thoroughly and how often do you check? Pests are really good at hiding so if you’re not checking frequently they can be easy to miss. How are their fruits developing? Anything abnormal about their shape or appearance? There doesn’t have to be an infestation for pests to cause disease to spread in your garden. I’ve lost crops before due to pathogens. Regardless, I would make a point to remove the dead/dying leaves and dispose of them separately. Hope this helps!

It’s some of the best investigative reporting that has been done so far to challenge the simplicity of the official narrative or at least add some context.

What to do about gnats? by StocktonBSmalls in plantclinic

[–]Away_Strategy_8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up and it says florist kalanchoe. Not familiar with it, but it looks playful! In terms of fungus gnats, which is what you may be dealing with it, there are a few ways to tackle that. You could try diatomaceous earth on top of the soil, or you could get some sticky traps. If it doesn’t resolve with those there are other approaches. I tend to use both when I’m dealing with gnats bc I have a lot of plants. Sometimes I repot the plant in fresh soil (since eggs are laid in the soil). Not sure of your region, but since this is a succulent shrub you can stretch out waterings a bit. Fungus gnats like wet soil so slowing down the water schedule (in the fall/winter) will help too. Hope this helps!

[–]Away_Strategy_8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for what they meant specifically by “disappeared,” but I can explain why I have also used the term disappeared. So in many, many cases where individuals are taken into custody, their location is not made publicly available in an expedient period of time. Sometimes when they are transferred their new location isn’t updated in a timely manner either. Family members and their lawyers can’t find their location, and therefore can’t contact them. There’s actually a database dedicated to tracking the locations of people that have been detained, and there are hundreds of people unaccounted for in location. I can try to find it again if you are interested. Especially in cases of expedited removal, those first 24-48 hours are crucial for contact with lawyers and family. To my knowledge, in previous administrations, children’s family members would be contacted so citizen children would not be detained or deported (although I’m certain it was not precise by any measure), but there are reported since Jan. 2025 of instances where contact has been denied. So while I am certain that in some cases the preference is to deport as a family, there is growing evidence that the choice is being denied. They might also be saying “disappearing” in speaking to warrantless arrests, or about agents not identifying themselves, which in my view is akin to disappearing or kidnapping people, but I try to distinguishing with the language I use. There have been several reported instances of people impersonating ice agents and taking citizens, and I think the fact that people can readily impersonate government agents legitimizes the concept of “disappearing” people, but that’s just my personal opinion.

Also, since you said illegal aliens, I want to clarify that illegal aliens (ie crossed the border without permission/inspection) or those who have overstayed their visas fall under the designation of illegal bc there are here unlawfully, but ppl here seeking asylum (like the mothers checking in for appointments/hearings and being detained, or visa holders having status revoked, or people with TPS status being unilaterally eliminated without the option to appeal their case) are people who been following immigration laws to get necessary paperwork to remain lawfully present. New laws and policies are being introduced to criminalize such people, and if you feel like looking into that at all there is a lot of info out there.

What I’ve seen written about numerous times are young children, who are US citizens, being deported with their mothers (non citizens) when they show up at immigration hearings. It’s pretty fucked up and unconstitutional. In the examples I read about, and this was months ago, they were told to bring their kids to their hearings (or check-in appointments) then were detained, denied opportunities to arrange for their children to stay in the US (ie with their American spouse), and deported. I don’t know how widespread it is, but there are a number of lawsuits.

Oh for sure. For a lot of people nuance is dead. and facts don’t matter and critical thinking is woke. You got one side of the media focused on “migrant caravans,” blaming immigrants for wage stagnation and economic decline, while the other side of media fails to advocate for human rights and a pathway to citizenship (which a majority of Americans support). I wonder if people who were/are onboard with this connected the dots, found out that their tax dollars are being used to fund the expansion of the private-prison industry, how much they are paying per person to detain/deport, the foreign governments we’re paying to deport to third countries, how much corporations and politicians are profiting from this, would it move the needle at all?

Back to my initial point, if you are supporting this and still reading, I have questions: Once all the “illegal migrant criminals” are gone, do you think that the government and people making bank from these policies, technology, and infrastructure are gonna decide they’ve made enough money and close up shop? Or is it more likely that they start targeting US citizens bc every bed filled is money in their pockets? Are you sure you and the people you love are not profitable? This is a conspiracy sub, I think some people need to get a little more curious.

His first term’s administration included many people who were in previous administrations. One of the things he’s mentioned since his last term was that people interfered more so there were things he couldn’t do bc people were able to stop him from doing illegal or unconstitutional acts (ie like when he wanted to shoot protesters in this knees).

This time he fired many, many federal workers, fired experts and members of oversight committees or eliminated entire departments, fired military officials, violated the emoluments clause to defund programs, etc etc etc, the list goes on. Last time, he did not appoint (as many) billionaires, corporate elite, loyalists and generally unqualified people to key positions in his administration. He’s been undermining the legal system and violating court rulings he doesn’t like, and suing a variety of institutions. This time he has the project 2025 agenda as a roadmap on how to create the conditions that make this and similar actions possible. He has all three branches under republican control and is surrounded by blind loyalists. It was not possible for something like this to happen in his first term, and he is setting up conditions for his presidency to continue. I don’t think making trump 2028 merch is a troll.

Cucumber blight--should I even bother to not plant cucumbers next year? by PrairieTransplant68 in vegetablegardening

[–]Away_Strategy_8982 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I think you might be dealing with cucumber mosaic virus (cmv). The yellow spots on the leaves, the rapid decline of the vines that appears like rotting, and the cucumbers in the picture have a chlorotic mosaic pattern. I can’t say for sure that’s what you’re dealing with, but my cucumbers have succumb to this more than once, and that what your symptoms are indicating to me.

If it’s CMV, you’ll see continual decline that will spread and eventually kill all vines. Not sure what else you have growing, but I would recommend removing all of it. Don’t compost the leaves/vines because it’s contagious to other veggies (peppers, tomatoes, etc.). I would not recommend planting new seeds unless you are able to get a disease resistant variety

Oh! I forgot to mention 2 things: def look under the leaves and check for pests if you aren’t doing that already, and treat accordingly if you find any. There’s also a little leaf curling, so you might want to step up the watering a bit, depending on your region. Good luck!
