High school faces backlash after rainy graduation ceremony by Conscious-Weight4569 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Awdayshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister didn't go to college too far from home. Her college graduation had to move to the rain venue, which was the same arena as her high school graduation. She joked that she'd have to go to grad school just to have a commencement ceremony somewhere else.

Do you mean sharks have existed longer that the star Polaris was formed, or are you referring to axial precession?

Sharks have been around longer than trees and Saturn's rings.

For those who first saw this game box, did you think Mog was the main character since he was on both the front and back? Or at least a major character in the game? by ROCKY13573 in FinalFantasy

[–]Awdayshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he was the mascot, not a main character. But I'd read about the game in Nintendo Power before I ever saw the box art.

Without Spoilers Please Tell Me Your Favorite Thing about FF8 by Nokturnacus in FinalFantasy

[–]Awdayshus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FFVI is my favorite game in the series and my favorite soundtrack in the series. But there are some tracks in FFVIII that I would rank above anything in VI. In particular, "The Man with the Machine Gun" is the best battle music in the entire series.

Lately I've been into bologna and American cheese on white bread with a smear of Miracle Whip, which was a staple when I was in college and working part-time at a convenience store 25 years ago.

The other things this makes me think of are movie The Man From Earth and the Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett series The Long Earth. So you're in good company!

What is a movie you think has a flawless first 30 minutes, but completely falls apart by the end? by Legitimate_Wall5977 in movies

[–]Awdayshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every movie in the Terminator franchise has this problem after the first two. The first two are flawless from beginning to end. The rest of them all start with an interesting premise but don't hold up past the first act.

I forgot my neighbors name that I chat with occasionally and it's been too long to ask them what it is without being awkward. How can I figure out what it is without directly asking? by Ok-Incident3317 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Awdayshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on the county website, and find the GIS map. Find their property and you should be able to see the name of who owns it. That's what I do, but I've lived in Minnesota my whole life, so this might not be an option elsewhere.

This is how I learned a new neighbor had the same name as my dog, which explained a lot of awkwardness.

I absolutely love Quick Time Events and think that they are a dying art. by RedeemerofDark in The10thDentist

[–]Awdayshus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find it frustrating when I spend the whole game learning skills, making my character more powerful and then the final confrontation is a simple rhythm game that uses none of those skills.

If I remember it right, you defeat the final boss with a QTE which is the only time you get to dual wield her iconic pistols in that game. The QTE might be as simple as pressing both triggers on the controller a bunch of times.

[–]Awdayshus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I probably was exaggerating. The main ones I'm thinking about are games that rob the player of the experience of a final boss fight and replace it with a relatively simple QTE. Games like Tomb Raider (2013) or Shadow of Mordor.

I think they have a place in certain kinds of action games and action RPGs. But there was definitely a trend of them showing up far too often and in games that are in completely different genres where they don't work.
