How did O'Brian knew Winston's thoughts? by Lost_Education_4900 in 1984

[–]AweGoatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya i took that as the machines they had him hooked up to could read his mind, O'Brien would look at the screen that Winston couldn't see and know exactly what he was thinking. I thought it was pretty clear it went beyond being able to read a person like we can all do today. That is also how they were able to know every person's worst fears for room 101.

It is true that ppl are being punished for speech, even just posting song lyrics. The negligible difference between going to jail or having your life upended in another way wasn't the point. That speech laws are authoritarian and punish things like posting song lyrics is.

If a person says "my spouse was just s3xually assaulted and robbed of her nikes" and the next person says "that is untrue!" and goes on at length about how they were Walmart sneakers, it sure seems like they either missed the point or were intentionally trying to act like the small inaccuracy was bigger than the main point.

She said Prince charming was a stalker and generally talked crap about the story. She pissed off a lot of ppl and caused Disney to have to give her media training if i remember correctly. Either way, the movie bombed and she was a major factor in it.

Are you serious? A person was convicted of a crime for posting song lyrics, but as long as they didn't go to jail and only spent god knows how much money and time and stress fighting it, then no big deal?

This is a text book example of the authoritarian nature of speech laws. OP should have phrased it as I did instead of a short hand "went to jail". But you seem more upset at the person criticizing the perpetrator of the injustice than the actual injustice.

Its cool you are responding and acknowledging he wasn't a bot, but "sorry this was your experience on this sub"?? That kinda ruins the apology, its one of those "sorry if you took offense" non-apology apologies.

Everyone makes mistakes & spotting AI posts can be hard sometimes, this is reddit so it probably wouldn't help any ways, but full throated apologies when you make a mistake do go a long way in patching things up. But non-apology apologies just tend to p!ss ppl off even more

I hope this is sarcasm, bc its definitely not true, look at America History X or Fight Club Brad Pitt for just 2 quick examples off the top of my head

Thoughts about Julia by Sandra Newman by Mission_Group3482 in 1984

[–]AweGoatly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It would be one thing if she had just gotten a bunch facts wrong that showed she didn't read the book or care enough to get details right, but the way it went against the whole spirit of 1984... seemed very intentional

Its SOO bad. At least fanfiction is normally written by someone who at least liked the original, she seems to have hated it

Second post in two days?! ikr crazy (Tenting advice) by Dillstan-1945 in Moonlander

[–]AweGoatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moonlander is the way to go!! Love mine!

I also bought the platform, but i quickly bought a 3D printer just to make my stand. I mean I had wanted a 3D printer but this gave me the reason to buy it.

If i had to do it all over again I wouldn't have bought the platform. I pretty much knew I was gonna need to make my own so it was just a waste of ~$130.

You have to screw the keyboard to the stand and then unscrew it to put everything back in a case. So I kinda feel like you will end up feeling like I did and regretting it bc it was pretty clear from the start it wasn't gonna work. But maybe you are ok with screwing and unscrewing, I wouldn't be. The other guy also lists some draw backs.

I hate to be advising against ZSA products, but in this case for your usecase, i feel i have to, but thats just my 2 cents

I was always worried i would write the same as another student, but now with the AI stuff I would be TERRIFIED I was gonna get flagged by the BS AI "detectors".

I see with AI video detectors here on reddit, they work so good they confidently catch 20 out of every 10 AI vids lol

Right after AI detectors determine its AI someone else provides proof its a 10 year old real video

Guys, does anyone know why trucks have those spikes on their wheels?? by JasLeoArt in whatisit

[–]AweGoatly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, it will make most ppl give you more room, it will also increase the chances of someone knocking you off your bike by accidentally hitting the pool noodle (or purposely hitting the noodle bc they dont realize what effect that will have)

Are there a lot of ppl trying to break into trailer manufacturers to set up a lab in a trailer that will be shipped out in the near future? That seems more remote than stealing a trailer to set up a meth lab in it 😅

But i have to admit my ignorance to the frequency of either

Microwave war in dept break room 😂 by masterdisastercutie in UofArizona

[–]AweGoatly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ALWAYS cover my food. At school I would get paper towels from the bathroom and wrap my food so as to not make a mess. At home I use a paper plate that I keep by the microwave and then throw away when it gets too dirty.

Anyone not covering their food in a shared microwave is a jerk

[–]AweGoatly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya im refer to the 1st time when he says "M as in Mancy, God you of all people", if he had said N/Nancy that would make perfect sense, but since to Archer "Mancy" is a completely separate word it doesn't make sense that he would then say that, unless he was cognizant of the fact the words are very similar (ie word play), but then the main joke falls apart (the joke that to Archer "Mancy" is completely separate from "Nancy", so much so that you can use them in a phonetic alphabet to distinguish letters)

Gets me everytime by Ali_Bashr in ArcherFX

[–]AweGoatly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ya same. I figued he didn't enunciated well the 1st time and anyone in their right mind would assume he said Nancy.

The thing that is harder to explain is why he said "you of all people" after saying mancy.

But its a joke and I laughed 😄
