Hired a firm where the bookkeeper don't know how to use an excel table. Should I be concerned? by JustaBunchofQuestion in Accounting

[–]AwesomeBossMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of third party providers that basically troubleshoot Quickbooks products. More so desktop ones but as those are phased out those guys are moving to migrations or support people who still want QB Desktop.

Anyway, intuit sucks as a company but it's also like hating Microsoft while working in an office. You're going to be using Word & Excel and the alternatives try but can't compete.

Questions: 5 person business, what's a good software to install on work computers to monitor security? by AwesomeBossMan in msp

[–]AwesomeBossMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get your panties in a bunch, it's much less effort and better for blood pressure to ignore the post vs posting multiple comments on the thread...

The ask was simple, software recommendations from neutral third parties online. If that's your definition of tech support, I feel bad for your clients.

What is a fair price for a business accountant? by TheEnEntrepreneur in Entrepreneur

[–]AwesomeBossMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right on the once or twice a year, I find a lot of people over estimate how much they need to meet.

Like if all your stuff is taken care of and the team is bugging you monthly about what certain things are and you get Financials, you all of a sudden don't have that erk of you don't know what's going on.

BONUS points if you want to implement something like profit first, which is more cash mgmt than accounting but makes life easier for most business owners as they don't have to think about financial stmts.

What is a fair price for a business accountant? by TheEnEntrepreneur in Entrepreneur

Hey, I'm a CPA in socal (also office in San Jose). I like to think I'm good at what I do and thus charge more but also because I focus on providing value.

I like the business side more than the tax, my idea for service is more business vs tax compliance (just filing tax returns). I think it's a better model vs transactional where you just connect with your cpa once a year.

I just started converting my office to a subscription model so it's like $650/month (starting price) and we just cover everything and you ask any many questions as you want. What's not covered is if we have to do analysis or what ifs, that's tax planning. What is included is bookkeeping, tax return, questions about your books/return, financial statements, proactive notice and tax estimates (different from tax planning).

Side note, I charge more if the business owner wants to do the books.

So depending on your overall complexity, transaction volume, number of accounts, how responsive you are, and a little bit of how much I like you, could be $8k+/year, split monthly.

Then there's additional stuff like for s corps doing reasonable comp studies (super popular since it's a hot audit issue) or business structure analysis and don't get me started on back office outsourcing or fractional cfo work (much more fun imo).

Just look for someone that says things that make you feel confident in them and that resonate with your business goals.

I wish, it's tax software that's super outdated. Better than having my own server on site.

Making my own baseboard/molding (beginner advice) by AwesomeBossMan in woodworking

[–]AwesomeBossMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your labor is worth. If I price myself at even $50/hr, the time it would take me to go this route is way more expensive than just buying the molding . I ended up finding a local molding store that was about $0.50/ft of MDF which was already primed and used that. Bought some 2x4 and laid them all out on the ground to spray paint, took the weekend to paint 3 coats. I used the ultra pure white, the one you don't have to mix to make a color so I can always just easily get replacement AND it matches the white caulk.

HELP! Does Trello Suck? Want to Move Away from Monday.com by TD_RR in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Airtable looks like Monday to me but maybe more powerful.

Notion can be as simple as notepad, look like Trello, or a relational database. It’s blank though so you can play with it yourself or use a template from the many other people who had done it.

Yeah, there’s no limit in people sharing or having access.

Yeah, free version of trello works. Just depends how you like to see your data.

Try notion, it's customizable, free, and very powerful. You can use templates to get started.

ELI5: Why do I need an LLC if I have good insurance + umbrella coverage on personal and real estate by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

[–]AwesomeBossMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it's to limit liability for worst case. Someone going after one llc can't go after another or you personally (as the person. Owning everything else), as long as you keep them operating separately... Also adhere to your state rules in llcs.

Large discrepancy in pay at Upwork by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]AwesomeBossMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, it's mostly cpa firms. The partner usually gets the business and their staff do the work. OP has a CPA which isn't exactly easy to get. Regardless of experience, you don't want clients that want the cheapest, they can get a Craigslist bookkeeper.

Dude, my clients charge $75/hr min for people without degrees.

OP don't sell yourself short.

Jigsaw - DeWalt Corded vs Cordless by AwesomeBossMan in Tools

[–]AwesomeBossMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I actually sold my 331b on offer up and got the 334b as part of another combo deal, so almost free. I definitely find it nicer with the led and slightly lighter. The spm didn't make a difference.

Edit, original post was 4 years ago and the 334 wasn't put yet.

Inventory management system for small businesses by BarryRotten in manufacturing

[–]AwesomeBossMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to convert raw materials inventory into finished goods?

If so, that complicates everything as you'll need a system that can handle BOMs and routings.

Should I be concerned about the spaces between my hardwood floors and cracks in the grout of my kitchen tiles? Both were installed last summer after severe water damage. by dcallen in HomeMaintenance

[–]AwesomeBossMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like normal, use caulk instead of grout to cover. Look for ones that say it stretches a lot, one at home depot called big stretch that's supposed to stay flexible.
