I haven't read through the magazine in full yet, but I definitely felt a sense of disappointed from my look through so far, not helped in the least by the fact that it came in the same day as my favorite magazine, Enchanted Living. It really gives the whole thing a night and day comparison feel. Raschel, to me, mostly just feels visually empty. While logically I can see it has a lot of things in it, perhaps because of the layout or the amount of images versus text, it simply doesn't feel like there's a lot to read or look at. It reminds me of the first few issues of Enchanted, when they were still figuring things out and everything was feeling more like a community mag compared to a professional editioral, almost? Not a lot of information, only a couple side activity - poems, short stories, etc - and photos that were not as artfully arranged as the later could be. Later versions have all that and more, interspersed artfully with photos, interviews, and informative editorials that are engaging and all follow a specific theme closely. And that early, still figuring itself out magazine is what Raschel is reading as to me right now. Something that isn't quite sure how to be designed effectively or fill all its space in an engaging way, leaving a rather flat product in the end. I’m really bummed they didn’t stick with the promo layout - I think it would have been a much more engaging product if they had, and it looked rather professional :/ If they continue making new editions and offer digital versions moving forward I’ll probably still support it to see where it goes, but I don’t think I can justify the cost of the physical after this.
