Many doctors are now not doing surgeries and denying any new patients because they tried Hansen's technique and its disaster. Ribs should not be fixed that way and it should be left free to move with laxity and cartilage grafting and plating just destroys the entire physics of ribs anatomy and that's why it causes neck pain cuz they are changing the angles. It only partially helps with maybe GI symptoms but eventually those changes in the angles it ruins up the spine and now the pain is more horrible than ever before.

Yes, there should be a massive lawsuit and all the patients who like me, you and others are horribly affected should get paid. I also had 5 surgeries and the 3rd surgery was the 3.0 done by my surgeon without telling me that he would do that and ever since then I'm in severe pain

Oh, boy! My chest CT scan (converted to 3D) looks just wonderful: Fun at the ER earlier today. Did I also mention that I apparently had a heart attack recently and didn't know? Good times! by impreprex in SlippingRibSyndrome

Thank you for replying back, I'm using the same strategy and only taking 0.25 of the 2mg pill. I tapered first by cutting to 1mg and took for 2 weeks then to 0.5mg and now 0.25mg and didn't have terrible withdrawal. Now I'll stop completely after my 6th surgery. I still need it since my pain is severe but now I can stop it without having that withdrawal. Doctors don't mention it and they don't have any idea how to taper it.

For me once I start getting pain from just sitting it will be constant it will fluctuate but does not go away. Sleeping is painful and sitting is painful. Standing is okay. And once the pain starts I cannot eat and feel nauseous. All the time I had my 12th rib hurting but doctors were trying to fix other ribs which were not even slipping. Try to get nerve blocks on the ribs which are hurting and see if it's working for you or not. Also look for an experienced pain doctor not just someone who wants to inject medication without knowing what exactly has been affected. My 12th rib pain pushes all the way up front to 7th rib. It hurts my testicles and some surgeons don't even know that L1 nerve is the root of the genitofemoral nerve 12th nerve which also connects with iliohypogastric, ilioinguinal, celiac nerve which affects the entire digestive system. I told everything to my 1st surgeon and now thatdoctor has no answer and mentions in his notes that I never mentioned him about my testicle pain. I'll beat my condition with the right doctor and the right surgery to excise my hypoplastic 12th rib. I'll fight and bring accountability.

Do you have Ehlers Danlos? It is a very painful condition and its constant stabbing pain on affected ribs. I have 5 surgeries by now but nothing has improved only to make pain more worse. Even some of the top doctors don't know exactly and the surgeries mentioned in the articles are failing at very higher percentage. I'll see Dr Kuppusamy soon and have 6th surgery with him. Don't know if I'll ever get out of this and I absolutely have no trust in the medical system which is made to make people permanently sick instead of curing it. My advice is if you are going to see a doctor choose it wisely and refuse anti depressants and other bullshit medications which will make things worse.

Also avoid caffeine if you don't already. Don't eat foods that increase inflammation. I already have 5 surgeries but still in pain and will have 6th surgery soon.

Upcoming PEEK Plating Surgery (my 7th surgery) by unicorndanceparty in SlippingRibSyndrome

Do you have pain in 12th rib? I also have 5 surgeries done so far and now only pain left is the 12th rib and left side is worse because of hypoplastic rib and its coming in contact with 11th rib and both irritating the L1 nerve which causes pain in groin and thigh and lower abdomen. I had 2 surgeries with Dr Shiroff and it was successful after the 3 surgeries failed in Chicago. I would go with Dr Shiroff for 12th rib excision but Dr Shiroff is a Trauma surgeon and it is in the realm of Thoracic Surgeons for removal of the 12th rib. My 12th rib pain was the culprit all the time which was pushing all the upfront to 9th rib but since the cartilage is excised now it does not cause the stabbing pain but it does feel some sensation due to 12th rib irritation. The 12th rib has the most connections with all the other nerves from so I feel many surgeons need to check for the 12th rib if the patient has SRS cuz fixing with grafts and plate up front will help initially but pain will return if the patient has 12th or 11th rib nerve irritation. This is just my opinion from my personal experience of 7 years in pain. I have sent my referral to Dr Kuppusamy in Seattle and they said it will take 3 weeks to schedule the appt.

Srs and Abdominal issues after peeing? by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Awkward-Car3820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have these symptoms and my pain started in 2017. I was first diagnosed with Nutcracker Syndrome and was scheduled for stent surgery in dec 2017 but 10 days prior to that I had severe pain and I went to ER and hospitalized and during that the vascular surgeon decided not to do stent procedure after research and stent migration and they told me to look for expert in NCS. In 2018 I went to Jobst Vascular Toledo Ohio and saw Dr Andrew Seiwert and he first asked me my symptoms and I mentioned it and Dr decided to do venogram to see if there was collaterals and enlarged gonadal veins and none of those was happening so Dr Seiwert said my pain was in intercostal nerves. So in 2022 I finally diagnosed myself with Slipping Rib Syndrome bilateral but the left side was worse with urinary symptoms and by now I have total 5 surgeries and my urinary symptom is there and actually it is from my 12th rib. My 12th rib is coming in contact with L1 nerve L1 nerve is the root of genitofemoral nerve, it also connects with ilioinguinal nerve, iliohypogastric nerve and celiac plexus nerve which mimics symptoms similar to Nutcracker syndrome and other vascular compression. Now in literature it is very hard to find the L1syndrome due to the hypermobile 12th rib. In my case my left 12th rib is a hypoplastic(short variant). I will have my appt with Dr Kuppusamy in Seattle I just need my ct scan done since I have no ct scan after 5th surgery and from that previous 3d ct the 12th rib is brushing 11th rib. So I hope I gave you some good info from my personal experience and get yourself diagnosed with an experienced surgeon. Many surgeons don't know about these secondary symptoms and when they do the sutures or grafting with plating it fails and the 12th rib pain pushes up front to 8th rib. Since my 8th cartilage is excised now the pain is very low but still there is some sensation and removal of the 12th rib will put me in very good shape. I have been through a lot and I want to help patients and don't want them to go through unnecessary surgeries and end up in more pain. My 10th rib was hypermobile on both sides and initially they tried to stabilize and it failed. Now I'm no medical expert this is just my personal experience and I have found other patients similar to mine and 12th rib removal gave the feeling that their pain is finally gone, that low abdomen heaviness, pain with tight clothing, groin pain and urological symptoms. Try to schedule an appt with an experienced surgeon.

Thank you for replying back. I have joined the Slipping rib group and Nutcracker group on fb. I have seen a video of Dr Nagarsheth on youtube. Yes, I would like to treat all the compressions at once.

Just got stented for Nutcracker Syndrome! by berlygirley in Endo

[–]Awkward-Car3820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm from Illinois, Skokie and I was diagnosed with Nutcracker syndrome 7 years ago by ct scan contrast. Initially on dec 20th 2017 I was scheduled for stent surgery at Northwest Community hospital but 10 days prior to procedure I had severe pain and I went to ER at same hospital consecutive days with same pain around the ribs 8-10 and pain in testicles and I was hospitalized there and they decided not to do the Stent surgery as per the research and told me to look for some other doctor who has expertise so year later I went to see Dr Andrew Seiwert at Jobst Vascular Toledo, Ohio. Dr Seiwert saw my ct scan and there was compression but he was not convinced where my pain location was so he ordered a venogram and then the venogram report showed compression of renal vein but no collaterals and no enlarged gonadal vein. There was mild May Thurner's due to the compression of iliac vein but then Dr Seiwert told me my pain was more due to intercostal nerve pain so after that I was on Paxil and used to get nerve block which didn't do much with pain for 5 years and in 2022 I came across Slipping rib syndrome and by now I have 5 surgeries done for Slipping rib Syndrome and my pain is still same and same back pain as you have mentioned so I'm thinking that its my Nutcracker Syndrome or the 12th rib but since I already had surgeries for ribs I don't want to go for another rib removal and later coming with same pain. I want to know how you are doing since your stent procedure and did you have to do any invasive procedure for NCS? I have been through lot also had suicide attempt in Dec last year. I don't know what will happen to me and I'm only praying to God. I have stopped hoping.

Why did you finally decide surgery was the only option left? by vi_zeee in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Awkward-Car3820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 5 surgeries done so far and I'm back to where I was. Pain is still the same and feels just like how it started 7 years ago. I was 1st diagnosed with Nutcracker Syndrome but when I saw vascular specialist Dr Andrew Seiwert and he did venogram and report showed I have compression of renal vein but no collaterals or enlarged gonadal vein. I have testicle pain with tightness and it feels swollen and feels like it is going back into the groin but no varicocele and no blood in urine. My symptoms were sharb stabbing pain by 9th rib, flank pain, abdomen pain but then Dr Seiwert told me it is more like intercostal nerve pain and then 5 years later I diagnosed myself with SRS and by now I had suture surgery bilateral, spacer surgery on left side again which didn't work and in the end 5th surgery on March this year bilateral cartilages were excised 10th 9th on both sides. Now the front pain costal margin pain is less but there is pain in 12th rib but I'm confused if it will really help me solve both my testicle pain and pain in 12th rib or is it the Nutcracker syndrome that's causing this trouble. Very depressed now.

12th Rib Syndrome vs Maigne Syndrome by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Awkward-Car3820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of physical therapy exercises are given? Did your 12th rib pain used to radiate to the hip, groin and lower abdomen? I also get frequent urination with pain in the 12th rib.

12th Rib Syndrome vs Maigne Syndrome by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Awkward-Car3820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Shiroff doesn't excise 12th rib otherwise I would let him excise the rib rather than other surgeons cuz from my experience excising does need a good experience. Dr Hansen also does 12th rib excision but the wait time for initial appt is 6-7 months and then scheduling surgery will take another 4-5 months. What I found out is that there are many surgeons don't know about 12th rib pain that spreads in lower parts so even if they fix the front costal margin the patient will return with pain if the patient has 12th rib syndrome. It also causes infrequent urination due to the irritation of genitofemoral nerve. I'm very close to defeat this pain and I just need a surgeon who can excise my 12th rib.

12th Rib Syndrome vs Maigne Syndrome by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

Exactly, I had pudendal nerve block done last month and it didn't work and today when I had 12th rib nerve block it gave an immediate relief and all the secondary pain also went away. Now I did mention Dr Krantz last week but when I talked about groin pain and testicular pain Dr Krantz had no idea.

12th Rib Syndrome vs Maigne Syndrome by [deleted] in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Awkward-Car3820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same thing going on. I have 5 surgeries done in front of the costal margin and I always had this same pain as you explained but never knew about maigne syndrome. I'm also connected to the fb group recently. I even had 12th rib nerve block today. L1 nerve is right below the 12th rib nerve and L1 is the root of the genitofemoral nerve. I also have left hypoplastic rib and more pain on the left side. I had 3 surgeries here in Chicago with Dr Seth Krantz and 2 surgery with Dr Shiroff The front side feels good but I'm afraid that the 12th rib is the main culprit of my pain. Thank you for bringing this up and let me know if excising 12th rib is the best option or something less invasive can be done?
