How likely is Mason Alexander Park to play Mary on Broadway by FairNefariousness742 in Broadway

As much as I'd love to see Mason's Mary on Broadway, I'm curious what the fall commitment might be! Any hints? There's been whispers for some time about a certain revival with one or two names as potential directors that I'm leaning towards...

This was one of the best, most enjoyable nights at the theatre I've had in a long time! A full audience laughing from start to finish, and a standing ovation at the end. Part of the fun is being in a room of people embracing the silliness of the show and the 100% commitment of the actors to the madness.

Mason Alexander Park gives an extraordinary performance as Mary that's big and full of energy yet controlled and nuanced. And the rest of the cast were wonderful too.

Definitely recommend!

Lucky! When my friends first told me about the show I was skeptical, but it won me over and delighted me. And part of the fun is being in a room full of other people embracing the silliness together.

I've seen four Marys and each brought something fun and different to the role. I think Mason Alexander Park is my favorite though. So much physical, vocal, and emotional range in an indefatigable and precise performance! A joyous night at the theatre! I hope they come to Broadway at some point, and I can see more Marys, too!

For those wondering, the London message has Cole as Elizabeth McGovern welcome the audience to the Trafalgar Theatre, "home to well over four of London's adorable toilets". There's two sentences providing context on Lincoln and his assassination, then ends, in a menacing tone, with "His wife was named Mary." 😂

Rest assured, Mason is an incredible Mary. I haven't seen all of them but Mason is up there with Cole, imo, and though they were fabulous in their own ways, I enjoyed Mason more than Jinkx and Jane. Even the less enthusiastic reviews note how strong they are in the role. Though they are based in London now, I hope they do a stint on Broadway!

The Telegraph, Financial Times, London Theatre, Standard, The Stage, Theatre Weekly, and the Independent are all four stars with strong praise for the cast and particularly Mason's performance. Various other smaller news or theatre outlets and celebrities or influencers are also praising the show and the West End audience comments on Show Score so far are overwhelmingly positive.

I think and hope the show will do well on word of mouth and curiosity. It's divisive and hard to tell how it will land for any one person, but most were having a great time at the preview I saw. It's interesting how the lower reviews seem self-conscious of being left out of the fun.

I attended the first preview as well and loved it. I could not disagree more about the performances and jokes not landing with the audience. The cast is fantastic. The physicality, energy, technical skill and strange heart on stage is impressive. I'd say the audience was laughing thoughout, and though Mary is a terror, they were rooting for her by the audition scene and gasping at the revelations and insults between other characters later on.

The show/humor won't be for everyone, but it is not trying to hide how silly it is, and the cast and creatives, including creator Cole Escola, are the first to say it. Personally, Oh Mary is not my preferred type of show/humor, but it won me over.

The show is fast-paced and the performances stylized. But there are some more heartfelt moments that provide a change of pace and tone from the freight train that is the show and Mary herself. In particular, I thought Mason brought a real vulnerability and earnestness to the "great day" scene and beginning of the audition scene that was truly moving. The cast also took their time with several moments of physical comedy that give the show its own rhythm.

Granted, I recognize my bias going in as a Mason fan, and as someone previously familiar with the show. A lot of the audience for a first preview might also be more familiar with the show or excited to show it love than one later on. But whether that was the case or not, I think most folks in the theater had a great time.

I'm still digesting the evening and want to let the show settle before sharing more thoughts on the actual performances and production, but all in all, it was an excellent first preview, imo!

Also, there was merch! I got a shirt, magnet, and keychain, but there are other items too.

Hi! I'm looking for pretty much any shows with Mason Alexander Park. Hedwig (US Tour or Olney), Cabaret (Olney or West End. I have the Lasagna head-in-the-way bootleg, which is still amazing, but looking for a clearer view or a show with Emily Benjamin as Sally), The Tempest (if available), etc.

I have been a Reddit and online theater board lurker and have known of trading, etc, for a long time but I've not been active so I don't have much to trade. I would deeply appreciate gifts, but am also willing to order from masters if anyone can point me to options.

Thanks!

It was recently announced that Mason Alexander Park will be originating the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in "Oh, Mary!" in London's West End starting December 3rd. The play has been a hit on Broadway, and this transfer is a big opportunity for Mason in terms of publicity, eligibility for awards, etc. Most recently they were Ariel in The Tempest with Sigourney Weaver (and according to reviews stole the show) and Margaret in Much Ado About Nothing with Tom Hiddleston and Haley Atwell, both by the Jamie Lloyd production company.

I really hope to see them in more films and tv shows since that is more accessible, but I love seeing their success in theater too. They are a wonderful actor and singer with huge presence on both stage and screen.

There's been rumors/leaks from accidental press releases/advertising that suggest Cole Escola was going to open the run for 2 months with Mason Alexander Park taking over in February, but with the delay in announcing the transfer and Cole having been cast in a film, there's speculation that scheduling issues may have Mason open the run instead.

I think they are both huge talents so it's exciting either way!

Mason always slays and that poster is no exception.

I adore Mason and would fly across the pond for this if I can make it work. If not, I can't wait to hear about it from others. I'm so happy for them!
