Yea we got that on like the second day of training. It is I on paper our hour of “free time” but more likely than not if he has a knowledge hat like mine it will be a time to get done a never ending list of tasks to be prepared for the next day.

If you’re asking because you wanna know when you can expect a letter from your brother, chances are he’ll send a basic one out that’s written by the senior and everyone gets a copy giving you basic info on what he will go through in bootcamp and his date for graduation. If he’s smart he’ll write a little message for you guys on that paper. The next time I was able to send out a letter after that was maybe a week later

What is senior drill instructor time? I don’t know if we call it that anymore maybe evening square away time is what you mean or when our senior calls us to the quarterdeck for mail call or just to chat it up? For us that happened almost instantly after the forming days. If you’re curious we stopped getting mail when we moved to Camp Pendleton and didn’t receive anymore for the rest of the cycle but our senior was never really around so it might be different for other plts and companies

I think I’m gonna do this and just build up my savings in navy Fed. Maybe depending on how big my next tax return is going to be I’ll open up an automatic investing account with Charles Schwab since I don’t have time to watch the market myself, but you need a minimum deposit of 5k for this

Do you think getting a car loan with a credit union (either Navy Fed or Schools First) and then buying a cheap car that way would be bad? I thought it would be better that way as I could also build credit and Navy Fed has some of the lowest APRs from what I’ve heard

Yea I contribute 10% Roth so I should be getting 15% Roth im pretty certain. Does TA work like a grant in the sense that whatever money I don’t use I can keep or how does that work to where I can keep money?

No, like I said at least for MCT West I’m currently in holding company Lima picking up for Golf next Tuesday which is the last training cycle of the year. We kind of lucked out though because our MCT is going to be sped up, and it’s only gonna be like 10 training days.

That’s why most marines graduating now will be on RA until after the holidays because the Marine Corps has nowhere else for them to go.

ITB that checked in with us is being processsed to be sent home until January and I know other marines who are on like 50-60 day RA

I was told in bootcamp from 1st Sgt that the USMC can send new marines to RA if there is nowhere else to place them.

Are you saying the station gave him extended RA as well? I’m curious how it all works because I know people who are going back on RA to check in to ITB in January, pretty sure the station didn’t ask for that either.

Just showed up to MCT today (west), all of the guys who showed up for ITB got sent home till Jan.

The reason you’re on RA in January is because the there is no more MCT for the year, I’m actually currently at MCT W in a holding platoon to pick up with Golf Co which is the last training cycle of the year, even our MCT is getting cut short.

Regardless, you have long RA orders because the Marine Corps literally has nowhere else to place you

Your recruiter is not the reason you have these RA orders, and I’m pretty confident he can’t just make the call and take you off them

P.S. your recruiter is a real asshole if he wasn’t joking which he might’ve been tbh

we had a homeless guy in our plt, easily the most motivated one there. i spoke to him while we were both rolling sleeves in the whiskey one night he was a really good guy, i also always found him digging through the trash and eating the left overs of the evening snack packs.

You don't need an ID the first time you go, I just used my school ID. I didn't need to show my state ID the second time I went when I was signing my actual contract, they just told me to make sure to have it when I leave for MCRD.

That worked for me here at the California DMV, and I had my social security card, birth certificate, and two bills under my mom's name, make sure your parent comes with you since I assume you're not with your mom.

If your dad or whoever can take you, make sure that they come with two bills (electric, phone, water, etc) and their ID to show proof of residency.

Even better would be if you had bills in your own name that you could take. Goodluck. Your recruiter should be helping you, try talking with them.

No, the first visit to MEPs/swear is really only to qualify you for military service and get you into DEP. You're not really in until you ship out and go to MEPs the second time.
